Maharashtra HSC Study Notes 2027: Subject-wise Notes Guide

What to include in your Std XII notes, how to organise them and a revision schedule for the February 2027 board exams.

Maharashtra HSC study notes are your own condensed version of the Std XII Balbharati textbooks: the definitions, derivations, reactions, formulas, diagrams and answer points you will revise in the final weeks before the board exam. Good notes are built around how the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) actually sets its papers, where many objective questions come straight from textbook lines and long answers reward complete, well-labelled points.

This page explains what to put in your HSC notes for each stream, how to organise them, a revision schedule for the 2027 exams and where notes fit with practice tests. The theory exams run from 8 February to 16 March 2027, with practicals, orals and internal assessment from 20 January to 6 February 2027, so notes made now still have time to pay off.

What Your HSC Notes Should Cover

Notes are not a copy of the textbook. They hold the material you are most likely to forget and most likely to be asked. The board paper mixes multiple-choice questions, very short answers, short answers and long answers, so your notes need both quick facts and full answer outlines.

Subject group

What to put in your notes

Why it matters in the paper

Physics

Formulas with units, derivation steps in order, labelled diagrams, standard numerical types

Derivations and diagrams carry fixed marks; units are checked in numericals

Chemistry

Named reactions, conversions, IUPAC rules, structures, key definitions and laws

Organic conversions and reason-based questions are a regular feature of past papers

Biology

Labelled diagrams, process flowcharts, definitions, differences between terms

Diagram-based and 'distinguish between' questions are common

Mathematics and Statistics

Formula sheet, standard results, solved examples of each problem type

Steps earn marks even when the final answer slips

Commerce subjects

Formats (Accountancy statements, letters in SP), definitions, features and distinctions

Correct format and complete points decide marks in long answers

Arts subjects

Timelines, key terms, thinkers and concepts, map points for Geography

Short notes and explain-type answers need precise terms

English and languages

Poem appreciation points, figures of speech, grammar rules, writing-skill formats

Writing skills and appreciation have fixed structures

Science students should also keep a short note on each prescribed experiment: aim, apparatus, observation table and result. Practicals carry 30 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and viva questions usually come from these points. For the chapter list in each subject.

How to Organise Maharashtra HSC Study Notes

Most students lose time not because they lack notes but because the notes are scattered. Keep one system for every subject.

  • Chapter short notes: One to two pages per chapter covering definitions, key points and answer outlines for likely long questions. Write them after you finish the chapter, not while reading it for the first time.

  • Formula, reaction and diagram sheets: Separate sheets for Physics formulas, Chemistry reactions and Biology diagrams, so you can revise a whole subject in under an hour.

  • Error log: A notebook of every question you got wrong in tests and previous papers, with the reason: concept gap, calculation slip or misread question. This becomes your most valuable revision material in the last month.

  • Textbook line markers: Highlight lines in the textbook that read like definitions or statements. These are the usual source of MCQs and one-mark answers.

  • Practical and oral notes: Experiment summaries for Science, project points for Commerce and Arts, and speaking prompts for language orals.

Keep notes in the same medium you will write the exam in, and label every page with the chapter number from the current textbook. If your college follows a slightly different chapter order, the textbook numbering keeps your notes consistent.

Reliable Sources for HSC Notes

  • Std XII textbooks: Your notes should start from the current Balbharati textbooks, available digitally on the official e-Balbharati portal. Students appearing in 2027 still study these textbooks; the planned CBSE-aligned curriculum reaches Class 12 only in 2028.

  • Board notices: Timetables, practical dates and pattern notices appear on the official Maharashtra board website.

  • Previous year papers: They show how the board words questions and which chapters carry long answers. Add repeated question types to your notes.

  • Ready-made notes: Use them to fill gaps or check your own notes, not as a replacement for the textbook. Check that they follow the current syllabus and your medium of instruction.
