NABARD Grade A Eligibility Criteria: Age, Qualification and More

NABARD Grade A eligibility depends on the stream you apply for. Most aspirants target Assistant Manager in the Rural Development Banking Service (RDBS), where graduates and post-graduates from many backgrounds can apply, provided they meet the minimum percentage and the age limit. Legal and Protocol and Security Service posts have their own conditions. Checking these rules before you start preparing saves months of effort, because a missed percentage or age rule cannot be fixed later.

The details below follow the 2025-26 notification as reported by secondary sources, because the 2026-27 notification was not confirmed on 22 October 2026. Qualification rules, the age cut-off date and relaxations are set afresh in every notification, so verify them on https://www.nabard.org before you apply.

Educational qualification

RDBS (General)

For the general discipline, candidates can apply through any one of these routes:

  • Bachelor's degree: A degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 60% marks in aggregate, or 55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

  • Post-graduate degree: A master's degree, including MBA or PGDM, with at least 55% marks, or 50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

  • Professional qualification: Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, Cost Accountant (CMA/ICWA).

  • Doctorate: A PhD degree.

Percentage rules are applied on aggregate marks of all years or semesters, so an average above the limit in the final year alone does not help. If your university gives CGPA, check the conversion formula it officially uses, and carry a certificate stating the equivalent percentage. Always check how the notification treats rounding, since a result of 59.6% is not 60%.

Result and degree deadline

Candidates are normally required to hold the qualifying degree on or before a date stated in the notification. Final-year students can apply only when the notification permits it, and they must produce proof of passing by the deadline. Read this clause carefully, because it differs between cycles.

Specialist RDBS disciplines

Specialist posts need degrees related to the discipline. As reported for the reference cycle, Computer/IT roles ask for a degree in computer science, IT or related fields, Finance roles for a CA, CMA or finance-related degree or management qualification, Company Secretary roles for the ICSI qualification, and Engineering, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Processing and similar roles for related degrees. The list of disciplines and vacancies changes every year, so match your degree with the exact wording in the notification.

Legal

The Legal post asks for a law degree recognised by the UGC and the Bar Council of India. Bachelor's candidates need 60% and master's candidates 55%, as reported for the reference cycle. Enrolment requirements, if any, should be checked in the notification.

Age limit and relaxation

For RDBS and Legal, the age range was 21 to 30 years in the reference cycle. Age is counted as on a date fixed by NABARD in each notification, not on the exam date. Candidates who are younger than the minimum on that date cannot apply.

Category-wise relaxation

Category

Upper age relaxation

SC and ST

5 years

OBC (non-creamy layer)

3 years

PwBD (General)

10 years

PwBD (OBC)

13 years

PwBD (SC and ST)

15 years

Ex-servicemen

5 years (reported, subject to the notification)

Victims of 1984 riots

5 years (reported, subject to the notification)

Relaxations are not added together across categories unless the notification says so. A candidate with a valid OBC certificate can calculate the upper limit as 30 plus 3, which is 33 years on the cut-off date. A SC candidate with PwBD status would use the PwBD (SC/ST) figure, 15 years, giving an upper limit of 45 years in the reference cycle.

Date-of-birth window

To avoid confusion, calculate your eligible birth date range once the cut-off date is announced. Subtract the maximum age (with relaxation) and the minimum age from that date, and check that your certificate date of birth falls in the range. Always use the date of birth from your matriculation or equivalent certificate.

Nationality and other conditions

  • Nationality: Candidates should be Indian citizens. The notification lists the other categories of persons who may also apply.

  • Computer proficiency: The tests are online and typing may be needed, so basic computer skills are expected.

  • Language: Applications are in English. The notification states where Hindi is permitted at later stages.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates must meet NABARD's medical standards before joining.

  • Attempts: No cap on the number of attempts was reported, so you can apply again as long as you meet the age limit.

  • Category certificates: Valid certificates in the prescribed format, such as OBC non-creamy layer, EWS, SC/ST or PwBD, are needed to claim benefits.

Protocol and Security Service

This stream is meant for former armed forces officers. The reference notification asked for commissioned service of around 10 years, relaxed for PwBD candidates, with an ex-serviceman ID card, and Short Service Commissioned officers had to complete the service by a stated date. The age range was higher, at 25 to 40 years. Because these conditions are specific, read the notification text directly.

Who may not be eligible

  • Below the percentage: A candidate who has 58% aggregate in a bachelor's degree under a 60% rule does not qualify through that route, even if the final year result is high.

  • Wrong degree for a specialist post: A general science graduate cannot apply for a Computer/IT or Engineering post without the specified degree.

  • Outside the age window: Those under 21 or above the age limit after relaxation are not eligible.

  • Degree from an unrecognised body: The university or institute must be recognised by the relevant authority.

  • Missing proof: A candidate without the required result, caste or disability certificate may lose the benefit or the candidature at verification.

Application fee and documents

For reference, the 2025-26 fee was Rs. 850 for General, OBC and EWS candidates (including Rs. 150 intimation charges) and Rs. 150 for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. The new notification will state the fee for the next cycle. Keep scanned copies of your photograph, signature, thumb impression, mark sheets, degree or provisional certificate, category certificate and identity proof ready.
