NABARD Grade B Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and Experience
NABARD Grade B eligibility is stricter than most bank officer exams. Besides a post-graduate degree with a minimum percentage, candidates also need relevant work experience gained after that degree, and the age window is narrow. A candidate who meets the education rule but not the experience rule is not eligible, so it is worth checking every condition before you pay the fee.
The rules below follow the official advertisement for Manager in Grade B (RDBS) published in July 2021. That is the last Grade B notification we could verify, and we have not found a new one at the time of writing (October 2026). NABARD resets the cut-off dates, percentages and relaxations in each notification. Use this page to understand the structure of the rules and to plan, and then confirm every figure in the latest official notice.

Educational Qualification
Degree and discipline
NABARD Grade B is open to post-graduates in any subject, which means you do not need a degree in economics, agriculture or commerce. The degree must come from a university or institution recognised by the relevant authority. Because the rural and agricultural content is so heavy, graduates from non-agricultural backgrounds should plan extra study time for that subject.
Minimum percentage
The advertisement required at least 60% aggregate marks in the post-graduate degree, with a relaxed minimum of 55% for SC and PwBD candidates. It also set out percentage conditions at earlier academic levels, and it recognised equivalent qualifications such as MBA or PGDM, CA, CS, ICWA and Ph.D. under stated conditions. The exact combinations are written in the educational qualification clause of the notification, so read that clause line by line.
Aggregate, not best semester: The percentage is calculated over the whole programme, as defined by the university or by the bank in the notification.
CGPA conversion: If your university gives grades, keep the official conversion formula or a certificate stating the equivalent percentage. Do not calculate it yourself and assume the bank will accept it.
Rounding: Do not round 59.6% up to 60%. Unless the notice allows it, the stated figure on your mark sheet is what counts.
Completion date
All qualifications had to be completed by the cut-off date in the notification, which was 1 July 2021 in the last cycle. A result that is declared after the date does not make you eligible, even if you appeared for the final exam before it. Students in their final year should therefore not apply unless the notice clearly allows it.
Work Experience Requirement
This is the condition that surprises many applicants. The 2021 advertisement asked for at least three years of experience, or two years for SC and PwBD candidates, in banking, finance, agriculture and allied fields or rural development. The experience counts only after you obtained the post-graduate qualification.
Situation | Does it count? |
|---|---|
Job after completing the post-graduate degree, in a bank, NBFC or financial institution | Usually counted, if the role fits the fields named in the notice |
Work in agriculture, allied activities or a rural development organisation after the post-graduate degree | Usually counted, if the role fits the notice |
Work done before the post-graduate degree was completed | No, it is not counted |
Internship or training period | Check the notice; many recruiters do not count it as experience |
Keep experience certificates ready, with dates, designation and the nature of the work. The bank verifies eligibility during the interview or joining stage, and a gap in the paperwork can cancel the candidature even after you have cleared the written exam.
Age Limit and Relaxation
In the 2021 advertisement, candidates had to be at least 25 years old and below 32 years as on 1 July 2021. The reference date matters more than your age today, because the notification fixes it in advance.
As a worked example, the age rule meant a General candidate had to be born between 2 July 1989 and 1 July 1996 (worked out from the age limit and the reference date). A candidate born on 15 March 1994 was 27 on the reference date and met the age condition.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
SC and ST | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen and certain other groups | 5 years, subject to the conditions in the notice |
PwBD (General) | Up to 10 years |
PwBD (OBC) | Up to 13 years |
PwBD (SC and ST) | Up to 15 years |
No stacking: Relaxations are not cumulative. If you fall in more than one group, you can claim only the most favourable one.
Certificates matter: OBC candidates need a valid non-creamy layer certificate in the format asked by the bank, and the certificate must be valid for the date the notice specifies.
Exact-date risk: If you are close to either limit, count the days. Being one day over the upper limit means rejection.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Recruitment of this kind states its citizenship requirement in a separate clause, and Indian citizens are the usual applicants. Read that clause in the notification, along with these other conditions.
Medical fitness: Final selection is subject to medical fitness. Candidates should check the fitness standards in the notice if they have a health condition.
Document verification: Selection is subject to verification of eligibility. Original certificates are checked at the interview or joining stage.
Reservation: Posts are reserved for General, OBC, SC, ST and EWS categories as per the notification. In 2021, one position carried horizontal reservation for persons with a locomotor disability.
Posting anywhere in India: Appointees can be posted anywhere in the country. This is a service condition, not an eligibility test, but it is worth knowing before you apply.
Existing NABARD staff: The 2021 notice allowed eligible NABARD employees to apply. They paid the fee and were reimbursed on submitting the receipt.
Who Is Not Eligible
These are the most common reasons for rejection. Check yourself against the list before you register.
Graduates without a post-graduate degree: A bachelor's degree alone is not enough for Grade B.
Marks below the minimum: A post-graduate aggregate below 60% (55% for SC and PwBD in 2021) is not accepted, except where an equivalent qualification route in the notice applies to you.
Result declared after the cut-off date: The qualification must be complete by the date in the notice.
Insufficient or wrong experience: Less than the required years, or experience gained before the post-graduate degree, or in unrelated fields.
Outside the age window: Below 25 or at or above the upper limit after relaxation.
Incomplete or invalid documents: A wrong category certificate, a missing experience letter or an unreadable upload can lead to rejection.
Application Fee and Documents
The 2021 fee was Rs. 900 for General, OBC and EWS candidates (an application fee of Rs. 750 plus intimation charges of Rs. 150) and Rs. 150 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, with GST extra. The fee is not refundable. The overview page explains the steps and the common upload mistakes in more detail.
Before you register, collect these documents in digital form:
Identity and photograph: A recent photograph and signature in the size and format given in the notice.
Education records: Mark sheets and degree certificates for each qualification you are claiming.
Experience proof: Letters with joining and relieving dates, designation and nature of duties.
Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, EWS or disability certificates, as applicable.
Eligibility for Different Candidate Profiles
The table shows how the rules usually apply to common situations. It is a guide to the 2021 rules, not a final decision, so confirm your case in the notice.
Profile | What to check |
|---|---|
Bank or NBFC officer with a post-graduate degree | Years of experience after the degree and the nature of the role |
Agriculture or allied department employee with a post-graduate degree | Whether the role falls under agriculture and allied fields or rural development |
Recent MBA or PGDM graduate | Experience requirement; a fresher without experience does not meet it |
Final-year post-graduate student | Result must be declared by the cut-off date; experience requirement also applies |
CA, CS or ICWA holder | Equivalent qualification conditions and the percentage rules in the notice |
Teacher, researcher or NGO professional in rural development | Whether the work counts as rural development experience after the post-graduate degree |
If the role you hold does not fit the named fields, look at the exact wording of the experience clause before assuming it will be accepted. The bank decides what counts, and its decision is final.
What Can Change in a New Notification
Some features of Grade B eligibility have stayed stable in the cycles we reviewed, while others are reset each time. Plan around the stable parts and keep the changing parts flexible.
Item | Likely to stay similar | Can change in each cycle |
|---|---|---|
Post-graduate qualification | Post-graduate degree with a minimum percentage | Exact percentage and equivalent qualifications |
Experience | Experience in finance, agriculture or rural fields after the degree | Number of years and accepted fields |
Age | A lower and upper age band with category relaxation | Reference date and the exact limits |
Fee | Lower fee for SC, ST and PwBD | Amounts and GST treatment |
Posts and streams | Manager in Grade B in the RDBS cadre | Number of posts and any additional streams |
The practical lesson is to keep your documents updated all year. Candidates who wait for the notification to start collecting certificates often lose time during a short application window, and the 2021 window lasted about three weeks.
Eligibility Checklist Before You Apply
Download the latest notification from the official website and note the cut-off dates for qualification and age.
Check your post-graduate percentage against the minimum for your category, and confirm the result date.
Count your experience from the date you completed the post-graduate degree and confirm that the nature of the work fits the notice.
Calculate your age on the reference date and apply the single relaxation you are entitled to.
Arrange category and experience certificates in the required format.
Apply only after you can answer yes to every point above.
Because eligibility can take months to arrange, many working professionals start their preparation while they complete the experience requirement. If you are one year short, use the time to build the economics and agriculture base. Testkart mock tests can help you test that base without waiting for the notification.
