NCO Cut Off 2026-27: Qualifying Marks, Ranks and Awards

The NCO cut off works differently from a job exam. There is no pass mark to clear and, according to the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), no second level to qualify for. Students are ranked by the marks they score in the single paper, and awards follow those ranks.

This page explains what that means for the 2026-27 session: the qualifying rule, how ranks and ties are decided, how awards are structured, and how results are declared. SOF's current pages carry this exam as the International Computer Science Olympiad (ICSO), with NCO as the older name, and the rules below come from those official pages. SOF does not publish rank-wise cut-off marks, so no marks are quoted here.

Is There a Cut Off in NCO?

Question

Answer for NCO

Minimum marks to appear

None

Qualifying marks for a Level 2 exam

Not applicable; the exam is single level

Class-wise or zone-wise qualification for Level 2

Not applicable

Basis of rank

Total marks in the single paper, then section priority for ties

Official published cut-off marks

None found on SOF's pages

SOF's rankings page lists qualification criteria for second-level exams, such as the top 5 percent of a class, the top 25 rank holders from each zone in each class, and the topper of a school with at least 10 students. Those rules apply to the olympiads that have a second level. SOF states that its computer olympiad is a single-level exam, so the same criteria do not apply here. If an article quotes a Level 2 cut-off for this exam, treat it with caution.

How Ranks Are Decided

  • Total marks first: A higher total gives a higher rank.

  • Section priority for ties: Equal totals are separated by marks in the Achievers Section, then Computer Science, then the IT or AI, Robotics and IT section, then Logical Reasoning.

  • Shared ranks: Students who tie on total marks and section priority get the same rank.

  • Final decision: SOF says the decision of its Academic Council is final and binding, and it may hold a telephonic round to resolve ranks.

  • Zones: Indian states are grouped into zones, and a separate international zone covers other countries. Ranks are worked out class-wise.

Awards and Recognition for 2026-27

The table below follows the 2026-27 award structure on SOF's awards page, where the single-level table is shared with other single-level olympiads.

Rank or category

Recognition

International ranks 1 to 5

Cash awards of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 2,500, with gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three

Zonal ranks 1 to 3

Rs. 5,000, Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 1,000 with zonal gold, silver and bronze medals

Zonal ranks 4 to 10

Gifts worth Rs. 500 and a certificate

Zonal ranks 11 to 25

Certificate of Zonal Excellence

Class topper medals

Gold Medal of Excellence: top rank holder where 5 to 9 students appear in a class, top 3 for 10 to 25 students, and the top 15 percent for more than 25 students

Students scoring 100 percent

Gold Medal of Excellence

Every participant

Participation certificate and Student Progress Report

Treat these amounts as indicative. SOF's ICSO awards page still shows the 2025-26 structure with different international amounts, and tied rank holders share cash awards under SOF's tie rules. A student receives only the highest award earned. Read the current https://sofworld.org/awards page before you rely on any figure.

How and When Results Are Declared

SOF says results are declared within 8 weeks of the exam, sent to schools and posted online. For the 17 December 2026 date, that points to around mid-February 2027, which is an indicative estimate and not an announced date. Students usually receive their results, certificates and Student Progress Report through the school. If a roll number, admit card or certificate is missing, SOF advises contacting the principal or computer teacher, who can ask SOF for a duplicate.

Setting a Practical Target Score

Because ranks depend on how all students in your class and zone perform, no fixed score guarantees a rank. A sensible target is built on accuracy rather than guesswork.

  • Benchmark with the sample paper: Solve SOF's sample paper for your class and aim to improve your score in every later attempt.

  • Protect the high-value sections: Computer Science is half the paper, and the Achievers Section decides ties first.
