PSU & Central Institutions

NBE

NBE is a recruitment exam, relevant to candidates preparing for recruitment at public sector undertakings and central institutions.

NBE Recruitment 2026 is the staff recruitment drive of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that conducts NEET PG, FMGE and other medical examinations. Through Advertisement No. A-12011/3/2025-Estb dated 2 June 2026, NBEMS announced 53 vacancies across Group A, B and C posts, from Junior Assistant and Stenographer to Deputy Director (Medical).

Most of these seats are for 12th-pass and graduate candidates, which makes this one of the more accessible central government recruitments of the year. This page brings together the revised dates, post-wise vacancies, eligibility, exam pattern, syllabus, salary and selection process in one place, along with a practical plan to prepare for the computer-based test (CBT) and the skill test.

The 2026 application window has closed. If NBEMS reopens registration or runs a fresh drive, the process usually follows these steps:

  1. Open the recruitment link on natboard.edu.in and register with a valid email ID and mobile number.

  2. Fill in personal, category and educational details exactly as they appear on your certificates.

  3. Upload a recent photograph, signature and the documents asked for in the notification.

  4. Pay the fee online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI, if your category is not exempt.

  5. Download the confirmation page and keep it safe for the admit card and document verification stages.

Applications are commonly rejected for a mismatch in name or date of birth, a missing category certificate, or an unclear photograph, so check these before you submit.

NBE Selection Process 2026

For Group B and C posts there is no interview. Selection runs through these stages:

  1. Stage I, computer-based test: 200 marks. You must reach the minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR, OBC and EWS, and 40% for SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen.

  2. Stage II, computer knowledge/skill test: 100 marks in 75 minutes. About five candidates per vacancy in each category are called, based on Stage I merit. The test matches the post: data entry and computer operation for Junior Assistant, shorthand and typing for Stenographer, and an accounts-related skill test for Junior Accountant.

  3. Document verification: Original certificates are checked against your application. Any mismatch can cancel your candidature.

The final merit is prepared from performance in the stages laid down in the notification. Because Stage II carries 100 marks, a strong skill test can lift your final position, so do not treat it as a formality.

NBE Exam Pattern 2026

The Stage I CBT for Group C posts has four equal sections. Questions are objective type and the paper is available in English and Hindi.

Section

Questions

Marks

Duration

General Intelligence and Reasoning

50

50

180 minutes (composite)

General Awareness

50

50

Quantitative Aptitude

50

50

English Comprehension

50

50

Total

200

200

180 minutes

Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

What This Means for You

  • You get 54 seconds per question: That is more relaxed than many SSC-level papers, so accuracy matters more than speed.

  • Four wrong answers cancel one correct answer: Guess only when you can eliminate at least two options.

  • Every section carries equal weight: A weak section costs as much as a strong one gains, so avoid ignoring General Awareness or English.

  • Level depends on the post: The paper is pitched at 10+2 level for Junior Assistant and Stenographer and at graduate level for Junior Accountant.

Deputy Director (Medical) and Junior Programmer had a separate exam slot, and the Deputy Director paper ran for three and a half hours. Candidates for these two posts should follow the scheme NBEMS published for them rather than the Group C table above.

NBE Syllabus 2026

NBEMS names the four sections of the CBT but does not publish a topic-wise list. The topics below are drawn from the notification and from the standard coverage of 10+2 and graduate level government exams, so use them as a working checklist.

Section

Important Topics

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, syllogism, seating arrangement, non-verbal reasoning

General Awareness

Current affairs, Indian polity, history, geography, economy, general science, health schemes and important organisations

Quantitative Aptitude

Number system, simplification, percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, mensuration, data interpretation

English Comprehension

Reading comprehension, error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, cloze test

NBE Salary and Pay Level

Selected candidates are placed in the 7th CPC pay matrix. The basic pay range for each level is shown below. Allowances such as DA, HRA and transport allowance are paid on top of basic pay, so the gross salary is higher.

Post

Pay Level

Basic Pay Range

Junior Assistant

Level 2

Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200

Junior Accountant

Level 4

Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100

Stenographer

Level 4

Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100

Junior Programmer

Level 7

Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400

Deputy Director (Medical)

Level 11

Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700

In-hand pay depends on the city of posting and deductions such as NPS, so it is not a fixed official figure.

NBE Admit Card, Answer Key and Result

  • Admit card: Issued online through the candidate login on natboard.edu.in after the exam city slip. Carry a printed copy and a valid photo ID to the centre.

  • Answer key: The provisional key lets you calculate your expected score and challenge a wrong answer within the objection window. NBEMS then publishes the final key.

  • Result: Released on the official website based on the final key. Shortlisted candidates move to the skill test, and the final merit list follows after document verification.

NBEMS has not released an official cut-off for this drive yet. Since only five candidates per vacancy reach Stage II, plan to score well above the minimum qualifying marks.

Service Bond and Probation

Selected candidates sign a penalty bond to serve for at least two continuous years, which runs alongside the probation period. Resigning earlier means paying three months of last-drawn salary as liquidated damages. Read this clause before you accept an offer, especially if you are also preparing for other exams.

How to Prepare for the NBE Exam

The CBT tests the same four areas as most central government clerical exams, so a structured plan works well. Here is a phase-wise approach for Junior Assistant, Stenographer and Junior Accountant aspirants:

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, build basics: Cover arithmetic chapters, core reasoning types and English grammar rules. Give 30 to 40 minutes a day to current affairs and keep monthly notes.

  2. Weeks 7 to 10, practise by topic: Solve topic-wise tests and 20-minute sectional sets. Add static GK, health schemes and organisations linked to the medical sector.

  3. Weeks 11 onwards, full mocks: Take full-length 200-question mocks in 180 minutes, analyse them the same day, and maintain an error log.

  4. Skill test, in parallel: Junior Assistant aspirants should practise typing and basic MS Office work daily. Stenographers need regular dictation at 80 wpm with transcription practice.

For timed practice in a similar pattern, you can attempt online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to see where marks are slipping.

If you are an educator who prepares students for clerical and staff recruitment exams, you can also create and manage your own tests on Testkart and share them with your students.
