NHM Rajasthan Staff Nurse Exam Pattern 2026: Marks and Sections

The NHM Rajasthan Staff Nurse exam pattern is simple on paper: one objective written test, followed by document verification. What makes it demanding is the weight of the nursing section, which decides most of your marks. This page explains the reported structure, what it means for your time and marks, and which details you must confirm in the official notice.

The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board conducted the written test for NHM contractual nursing posts in the last verified cycle. We could not open a detailed pattern document for the Staff Nurse post on the board's website, so the figures below come from secondary reports and are marked indicative. Where reports disagree, we say so instead of picking a side.

The language and general sections are small in size but not in effect. In a close merit list, a few marks from each small section can separate selected and waiting candidates.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

This is where reports are least reliable. Some pages say a fraction of marks is deducted for unanswered questions, and some suggest marking a fifth option when unsure. Others do not mention negative marking at all. Because Rajasthan board papers often use five options per question, with one of them meaning that the question is not attempted, it is possible that the same format applies here, but we cannot confirm it.

Do not plan around a rumour. Read the marking rule in the official notice, and then practise under that exact rule. The table below shows the effect of the possible rules, as an illustration only.

Correct answer

3 (reported)

Gains 3 marks

Wrong answer, if a deduction applies

Set by the notice

Loses part of a mark

Unattempted, if a deduction applies

Set by the notice

May also lose part of a mark

The practical lesson is simple. If unanswered questions are penalised, blank answers are not free. If only wrong answers are penalised, a blind guess is risky. Your mock tests should follow the real rule, so you can decide when to guess.

Mode and Duration of the Exam

Reports describe the last Nurse paper as a morning session on 13 June 2025 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon, which suggests about two and a half hours. Some pages call it computer based and others call it offline, so the mode is also unconfirmed. Medium of the paper is normally bilingual, in Hindi and English, but check this in the notice.

If the paper is offline on an OMR sheet, practise shading answers accurately. If it is online, practise on a screen with a countdown timer.

What the Pattern Means for You

  • Nursing is 60 percent of the paper: Ninety questions at 3 marks each give 270 marks. Treat this as your main subject for most of your study time.

  • Each small section is worth 45 marks: Fifteen questions in each of four sections add up to 180 marks. These sections are quicker to prepare, so they offer the best marks per hour of study.

  • Every question is worth the same: A Hindi grammar question gives the same marks as a clinical nursing question. Solve the easy ones first.

  • Time per question is about one minute: At roughly 150 minutes for 150 questions, there is little time to spare for long thinking.

Document Verification and Final Merit

After the written test, candidates who clear the board's merit requirement are called for document verification. The board checks educational certificates, nursing council registration, identity proof, category and domicile documents, and age proof. Marks are not added at this stage, but a candidate with a missing or invalid document can be rejected.

The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the written test score, subject to any additional rules in the notice, such as bonus marks for specified categories. Do not assume a bonus applies to you unless the notice says so.

Documents to keep ready

  • Education: Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, GNM or other nursing qualification certificate and mark sheets.

  • Registration: A valid nursing council registration certificate and renewal proof where required.

  • Identity and category: Government photo ID, category certificate and domicile proof as applicable.

Time Management in the Exam

  1. First pass on the small sections (about 35 minutes): Computers, NHM, English, Hindi and general knowledge are quick to solve. Take the sure marks first.

  2. Second pass on nursing (about 90 minutes): Answer the questions you know at once, and mark the long ones for later.

  3. Final pass (about 20 minutes): Return to the skipped questions and, if the marking rule allows, make careful guesses.

  4. Last five minutes: Check that every answer is marked correctly, especially on an OMR sheet.

This is a sample plan. Test it in two or three full mocks and adjust to your own speed.

How to Practise for This Pattern

Take sectional tests of 15 questions for the small sections and 30-question blocks for nursing, then move to full 150-question papers. After each test, sort mistakes into three types: concept errors, careless errors and questions that took too long. Fix them in that order.

Where to Check the Official Pattern

Older pages may still show patterns from earlier NHM recruitments run through health societies or district committees, so follow the official notice. The pattern, mode, duration and marking rule for the next cycle will appear in the advertisement on the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board website. Update this plan as soon as it is published.
