New India Assurance Company Limited Administrative Officer

Recruitment exam for NIACL AO posts

NIACL AO is the recruitment for Administrative Officers (Scale I) at The New India Assurance Company Limited, one of India's largest public sector general insurers. The company hires Generalists and Specialists through a three-phase process: an online preliminary test, an online main examination with a typed descriptive paper, and an interview. A successful candidate joins as a Scale I officer on a pay scale that starts at Rs. 50,925 basic.

This page covers the most recent notified cycle (the 2025 recruitment for 550 posts), explains how the process works, and separates facts that stay constant from the ones that change with each notification. When the company releases its next advertisement, always confirm the final details on the official recruitment page.

Where the Recruitment Cycle Stands

The most recent Administrative Officer advertisement on the company's recruitment page is the 2025 cycle. Its Phase I, Phase II and interview stages are over, and the company has since published its provisional selection and contingency lists. When this page was prepared on 27 October 2026, the official recruitment page did not list a fresh Administrative Officer advertisement.

That means the figures for vacancies, dates, age and fee on this page belong to the 2025 cycle. Past advertisements have kept the overall structure stable, so the pattern and preparation advice remain a reliable guide. Treat the next cycle's numbers as unknown until the company publishes them.

NIACL and NICL are different companies

Many search results mix up two public sector insurers. NIACL is The New India Assurance Company Limited. NICL is National Insurance Company Limited, which runs its own Administrative Officer recruitment with a different notification, pattern and website. Check the company name and website before relying on any date or cut-off.

Eligibility Summary

A candidate may apply for only one discipline. Applying for more than one invalidates all the applications. The full rules, including specialist qualifications, are on the eligibility page of this cluster.

Qualification

For Generalists, you need a graduate or post-graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with at least 60% marks in either degree (55% for SC, ST and PwBD). Specialist posts need a discipline-specific qualification, such as engineering, law, CA or CMA, a medical degree, or actuarial papers.

Age limit and relaxation

In the 2025 cycle the age limit was 21 to 30 years on 1 August 2025, which meant a date of birth between 2 August 1995 and 1 August 2004. Upper age relaxation applied as follows.

Exam Pattern

Both online phases are timed section by section, and every wrong answer in the objective tests costs one-fourth of the marks for that question. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

After the objective tests, every stream takes a 30-minute typed descriptive test worth 30 marks (a letter for 10 marks and an essay for 20). It is qualifying only. Specialists take 40 questions in each of four common tests plus a 40-question professional knowledge test.

What this means for you:

  • General Awareness appears only in the main: It needs a separate, steady study habit, because the preliminary will not test it.

  • Sections are timed separately: You cannot borrow time from a strong section, so practise finishing each one inside its limit.

  • Sectional cut-offs apply: A very high score in one subject does not protect you if another falls below its minimum.

Older pages may still show previous pattern versions, so follow the current advertisement. The detailed breakdown is on the exam pattern page of this cluster.

Syllabus Summary

The company names the tests but does not publish a detailed topic-wise syllabus for the common sections. The table lists the working topic areas that these tests have drawn on, built from the pattern and the usual content of insurance and banking officer exams. Use it as a checklist, not as an official list.

Discipline-specific topics listed in the advertisement annexure

The full stage-wise list is on the syllabus page of this cluster.

Selection Process

  1. Phase I: You must clear each section separately. Roughly 15 times the number of vacancies in each category, subject to availability, move on to Phase II.

  2. Phase II: You must meet the cut-offs for each objective section and the total, and score at least 15 out of 30 in the descriptive test (13.5 for SC, ST and PwBD).

  3. Phase III interview: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed at select centres.

  4. Final merit: Marks from the main objective test and the interview are combined in a 75 to 25 ratio. Phase I marks and the descriptive test marks are not added to the final merit.

Ties are broken first by higher interview marks and then by age. A waiting list of up to 50% of the vacancies may be prepared. Appointment is subject to medical fitness and document verification.

Salary, Bond and Service Conditions

The 2025 advertisement fixed basic pay at Rs. 50,925 in the scale 50925-2500(14)-85925-2710(4)-96765. The company states that gross emoluments are approximately Rs. 90,000 per month in metropolitan centres. Allowances vary by city, and the in-hand salary depends on deductions, so treat any exact in-hand figure from other sources as an estimate.

Other benefits listed include NPS, gratuity, medical benefits, group personal accident insurance and company or leased accommodation as per norms. Before applying, read the service conditions carefully.

  • Probation: One year, extendable twice by six months. You must pass the Non-Life Licentiate Examination of the Insurance Institute of India to be confirmed.

  • Guarantee bond: You must serve at least four years including probation, with liquidated damages if you leave earlier.

  • Posting: Anywhere in India, with a minimum stay of five years at the initial posting.

  • Specialists: They may be required to stay in their specialisation for a minimum of 10 years.

How to Prepare for NIACL AO

The preliminary is a speed and accuracy test of 100 marks in 60 minutes, and the main is a longer test with a General Awareness section. Plan around both, and start the awareness work early.

  • Phase I: Build speed in reasoning and quantitative aptitude with sectional drills, and read English passages daily. Aim for balanced scores, because each section has its own pass mark.

  • Phase II: Add General Awareness with a daily current affairs habit, monthly revision notes and insurance sector basics. Practise 50-question sections inside 40 minutes.

  • Descriptive test: Practise typing a 10-mark letter and a 20-mark essay in English within 30 minutes. It does not add to merit, but failing the qualifying mark ends your selection.

  • Interview: It carries 25% of the final merit, so prepare your profile, banking and insurance basics, and current affairs.

For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt NIACL AO online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to decide what to revise. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty, and review each mock on the same day.

Cut-Off Reference

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. Comparing your Testkart mock scores with these numbers gives a rough idea of where you stand, though it is not a prediction. The figures below are for Generalist posts in the 2025 cycle, as reported on third-party sites that publish the company's marksheets. Confirm them on the official website.
