NIPER JEE Eligibility: Qualification, Marks, GPAT/GATE and Age
NIPER JEE eligibility depends on three things: the programme you want, the degree you hold and the entrance score you carry. The rules are set in the information brochure of each cycle, so a candidate who qualified last year can still miss a change if the new notice is ignored. This page explains the criteria followed in the 2026 cycle (organised by NIPER Mohali) and flags the points that are most likely to change for 2027.
It is written for students who want to know whether they can apply, which documents or scores they need first, and what could make an application invalid. As of 27 October 2026, the 2027 brochure has not been released, so every figure below is a 2026 reference and not a promise for the next cycle.

NIPER JEE Eligibility
Programme | Qualifying degree (reported for 2026) | Entrance score needed |
|---|---|---|
M.S. (Pharm) | B.Pharm or a related degree listed for the department | Valid GPAT, GATE or NET score, with exemptions |
M.Pharm | B.Pharm from a recognised institution | Valid GPAT, GATE or NET score, with exemptions |
M.Tech (Pharm) | B.Pharm or a relevant engineering or technology degree | Valid GPAT, GATE or NET score, with exemptions |
MBA (Pharm) | Relevant bachelor's degree as listed in the brochure | Check the brochure for the exact rule |
PhD | Relevant master's degree | Fellowship or qualifying score usually matters for institute funding |
The brochure lists department-wise degrees, so the table above is a starting point. Always confirm the specialisation you want in the department table of the notice.
Educational Qualification by Programme
M.S. (Pharm), M.Pharm and M.Tech (Pharm)
The common route is a B.Pharm degree from a recognised university or institution. For some departments, the brochure also accepts other degrees. Trackers report that these have included B.V.Sc., MBBS for pharmacology and toxicology, BAMS or BDS for selected specialisations, and M.Sc. in subjects such as biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, chemistry or life sciences. For M.Tech (Pharm), certain engineering or technology degrees are reported as acceptable. Treat this list as indicative and match your degree against the department table for the cycle.
MBA (Pharm)
MBA (Pharm) is offered at selected NIPERs. A relevant bachelor's degree with the stated minimum marks is the base requirement, and the selection includes a group discussion and personal interview after the written test. Check the brochure for the list of accepted degrees and for the weightage of each stage.
PhD
PhD candidates need a relevant master's degree, such as M.S. (Pharm), M.Pharm, M.Tech (Pharm) or an M.Sc. in a related science, with the minimum marks given below. Department-wise requirements differ, and a discipline mismatch is a common reason for rejection.
Minimum Marks and CGPA
Category | Minimum aggregate marks | Minimum CGPA (10-point scale) |
|---|---|---|
General, OBC, EWS | 60 percent | 6.75 |
SC, ST | 55 percent | 6.25 |
PwBD | 50 percent | 5.75 |
These are the 2026 figures reported by most sources. An older page may show a different CGPA for PwBD candidates, which is another reason to read the current brochure. If your university uses a grading system, check how the brochure asks you to convert it, and keep an official conversion certificate if one exists.
GPAT, GATE and NET Requirement
For the M.S. (Pharm), M.Pharm and M.Tech (Pharm) programmes, a valid GPAT, GATE or NET score is generally required. NIPER JEE decides your rank, but this score is part of the admission rules for most master's seats.
Reported exemptions
Certain degree holders: Graduates in B.V.Sc., MBBS, BAMS or BDS.
Foreign and NRI candidates: Foreign nationals and NRI candidates or their wards.
Sponsored candidates: Candidates sponsored by government departments, research organisations, public sector units or reputed pharmaceutical enterprises.
Another reported rule concerns reserved-category candidates who wish to take an unreserved seat: they may need a score that meets the general qualifying level. Read the exact wording in the brochure, because it affects which seats you can claim.
PhD funding
For PhD, a fellowship or a qualifying score from GPAT, GATE, NET or a recognised research fellowship is usually linked to institute funding. It may not decide whether you can sit the test, so check what the department asks for.
Final-Year Students
Students in the final year of their qualifying degree can apply if they will complete all requirements before the date stated in the brochure. For the 2026 cycle that date was reported as 31 July 2026. If you are admitted provisionally, you will have to submit your final marksheet within the notified time, and the marks must still meet the minimum percentage or CGPA. A candidate who misses the deadline or falls below the marks can lose the seat.
Age Limit, Nationality and Attempts
Age limit: Most summaries of the 2026 brochure report no upper age limit, while a few third-party pages mention one. Because of this conflict, confirm the rule in the brochure before you rely on any age figure.
Nationality: Indian nationals can apply. NRI and foreign candidates may be eligible under conditions given in the brochure.
Attempts: No limit on the number of attempts has been reported, but confirm this in the notice for the cycle.
Language: The paper is in English, so you should be comfortable reading technical questions in English.
Common Situations and What to Do
These examples are meant to help you think through your own case. They are not a final ruling, and the brochure always decides.
Your situation | What usually applies | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Final-year B.Pharm student with a valid GPAT score | Can generally apply if the degree is completed by the brochure date | Keep the semester timetable and result dates in mind |
B.Pharm graduate with 58 percent, General category | Below the reported 60 percent minimum | Check whether your CGPA conversion meets 6.75 before giving up |
B.Pharm graduate with no GPAT or GATE score | Score generally needed for M.S., M.Pharm and M.Tech | Check exemptions, or plan for the next entrance test |
MBBS, BDS or BAMS graduate | Accepted for selected departments, and a score exemption has been reported | Match your degree with the department table |
M.Sc. graduate in chemistry or life sciences | Accepted for certain departments, as reported | Confirm the department and the required marks |
M.Pharm graduate planning a PhD | Eligible for PhD if the discipline matches | Check the fellowship or score rule for funding |
Reserved-category candidate wanting an unreserved seat | May need a score at the general qualifying level | Read the exact wording on seat claims |
Who May Not Be Eligible
Unrecognised qualification: A degree from an institution that is not recognised for the programme.
Marks below the cut: An aggregate under the minimum for your category.
Missing or expired score: No valid GPAT, GATE or NET score where it is compulsory.
Wrong department match: A degree that is not listed for the department you have chosen.
Incomplete documents: Certificates not available by the deadline for verification.
Fee and Documents
The 2026 application fee was Rs. 4,000 for master's programmes (Rs. 2,000 for SC and ST) and Rs. 5,000 for PhD (Rs. 2,500 for SC and ST). Keep ready your identity proof, Class 10 certificate for date of birth, degree marksheets, entrance score card and category or PwBD certificates.
Documents usually checked at counselling
Identity and age: Aadhaar copy and the Class 10 certificate.
Academic records: Class 10 and 12 marksheets, graduation certificates and marksheets, and the NIPER JEE admit card.
Entrance score: GPAT, GATE or NET scorecard where it applies.
Category and special papers: Caste, PwBD or sponsorship certificates, and a character certificate if the notice asks for it.
This list is based on what was asked in earlier cycles, so use the document list in the current counselling notice.
What May Change in 2027
Host institute: The organising NIPER rotates, and the brochure and portal will follow the new host.
Accepted degrees: Department-wise degree lists can be revised, especially for M.Tech (Pharm) and MBA (Pharm).
Score rules: Validity of GPAT, GATE or NET and the exemption list can be updated.
Cut-off dates: The final-year completion date moves with the academic calendar.
Self-Check Before You Apply
Match the programme: Pick the programme and department, then find your degree in the department list.
Check your marks: Compare your aggregate or CGPA with the minimum for your category, using the brochure's conversion rule if needed.
Confirm the score: Make sure your GPAT, GATE or NET score is valid on the relevant date, or that you fall under an exemption.
Plan documents: Arrange certificates early, especially category, income-related or PwBD documents that take time to issue.
Start preparing: Eligibility only gets you a place in the race, so look at the NIPER JEE exam pattern next.
