Nursing & Paramedical Recruitment

PGIMER Nursing Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Conditions

PGIMER Nursing eligibility is not one rule but several, because the institute runs two different selection tests under this name. The Nursing Officer (Group B) recruitment test is for qualified, registered nurses. The B.Sc Nursing entrance is for Class 12 science students (4-year course) and for registered GNM nurses (Post-Basic course).

This page sets out qualification, age, relaxations and other conditions for each route, based on reports of the 2026 notices. Reports differ on a few points, so any detail that is not confirmed is flagged. Before applying, read the final rules in the advertisement or prospectus on the official PGIMER website, because eligibility is checked strictly at document verification.

Nursing Officer: educational qualification

Reports on Advertisement No. PGI/RC/055/2026/2276 describe two routes to the Nursing Officer post. You need to meet one of them completely, along with the registration condition.

Route one: nursing degree

  • Degree: B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, B.Sc Nursing or Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing from a recognised institution.

  • Registration: Valid registration with a State Nursing Council. Keep the certificate current and check its expiry.

Route two: GNM with experience

  • Diploma: General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institution.

  • Registration: Valid State Nursing Council registration.

  • Experience: At least one year of work experience in a hospital with 50 or more beds, after completing GNM, as reported. Experience letters should state the hospital's bed strength and your dates of service.

Whether experience counts only after registration, and whether internship is excluded, depends on the wording of the advertisement, so read that clause carefully. If your degree result is awaited, check whether the notice allows provisional candidates, since most recruitment notices require the qualification to be complete by the closing date.

Nursing Officer: age limit and relaxation

The reported age range is 18 to 35 years. The notice names a reference date for counting age, usually the last date of application, so check that date and compute your age on it, not on the date of the test.

Category

Upper age relaxation (reported)

General and EWS

None

OBC

3 years

SC and ST

5 years

PwBD

10 years

Further relaxation for government employees, ex-servicemen or other groups may apply under central rules, but it was not confirmed in the sources we could check. If you think you qualify, find the clause in the advertisement and keep the supporting certificate ready. Relaxation usually needs a certificate in the prescribed format issued by a competent authority.

B.Sc Nursing (4-year): eligibility

For the 4-year course, reports on the 2026 admission notice describe these conditions.

  • Qualification: Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from a recognised board.

  • Marks: A minimum aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, reported as 45 percent for General and 40 percent for SC, ST and OBC. Treat these as the 2026 rules and verify them in the current prospectus.

  • Age: Reported as 17 to 35 years on 1 September of the admission year. For 2026 this would mean a date of birth between 1 September 1991 and 1 September 2009, if the report is correct.

  • Gender: The programme is reported to be for female candidates. Check the prospectus for any change.

How percentages are checked

Aggregate in PCB usually means the combined marks in the three subjects, not the overall board percentage. If your board gives grades or CGPA, use the board's official conversion formula and attach the conversion certificate if asked. Rounding rules, such as whether 44.9 percent can be rounded up, are decided by the notice, not by assumption. If you are appearing in Class 12 in the year of application, check whether results must be declared before counselling.

Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing: eligibility

The Post-Basic course is for nurses who already hold a diploma. Reported conditions are:

  • Diploma: Completed GNM from a recognised institution.

  • Registration: Registration as RN and RM with the State Nursing Council.

  • Other criteria: Marks, experience and age limits are set out in the prospectus, and they were not clearly available in the sources we could check.

Nationality, registration and other conditions

  • Nationality: Indian nationality is the usual requirement for government recruitment and admission. Confirm any exception in the notice.

  • Registration validity: Registration must be active on the cut-off date named in the advertisement, and the name on it must match your other documents.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates may be asked to go through a medical examination, as is common in hospital appointments.

  • Category certificates: OBC certificates are usually accepted only if they are in the central list format and recent. EWS certificates also need the stated financial year.

  • Language: The Nursing Officer paper is in English only, so reading comfort in English is practically part of eligibility to perform well.

  • Attempts: No limit on the number of attempts was found in the sources we could check. Confirm in the notice.

Who is not eligible

These are common disqualifiers at the application or verification stage.

  • Wrong qualification route: A diploma holder without the required experience, or a graduate without registration.

  • Experience that does not count: Experience in a small clinic below the required bed strength, or experience gained before completing GNM.

  • Age beyond the limit: Even by a few days on the reference date, and without a valid relaxation certificate.

  • Incomplete degree: Candidates whose final result was not declared by the stated deadline.

  • Mismatched documents: Name, date of birth or category differing between certificate and application.

Fee and documents in brief

Reports mention an application fee of Rs. 1,500 for General, OBC and EWS candidates and Rs. 800 for SC and ST candidates in the Nursing Officer process, with no fee for PwBD candidates. This is indicative, not official, so confirm it in the advertisement.
