Railway Pharmacist Eligibility 2026: Age and Qualification
Railway Pharmacist eligibility for CEN 05/2026 depends on three things: a recognised pharmacy qualification with pharmacist registration, an age between 20 and 35 years as on 1 January 2027, and the C2 medical standard. This page lays out each condition, the age limit by category, and the common reasons applications get rejected.
The details are taken from the official CEN 05/2026 notification for Paramedical Categories. Items that could not be confirmed from an official document are marked, so you know what to double-check.

Educational Qualification
Candidates need one of these two qualifications, together with registration as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948:
Bachelor of Pharmacy (Allopathic): From a Central or State Government recognised university or institute.
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D): From a recognised university or institute.
Reports on the notification indicate that the qualification must be held by the application closing date, which was 14 October 2026, and that candidates still waiting for final results are not eligible. Provisional certificates are a common doubt, so check the annexure of the official notification before relying on one.
Diploma holders: The previous paramedical cycle (CEN 03/2025) accepted a Diploma in Pharmacy as well. For CEN 05/2026, the sources we could check list only B.Pharm and Pharm.D. We could not read the qualification annexure directly, so D.Pharm holders should confirm in the official notification whether they are eligible.
Age Limit
The age limit is 20 to 35 years as on 1 January 2027. This means you must not have been born after 1 January 2007. For general candidates, you must not have been born before 2 January 1992.
Category | Date of birth should not be earlier than | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|---|
UR / EWS | 2 January 1992 | None |
OBC-NCL | 2 January 1989 | 3 years |
SC / ST | 2 January 1987 | 5 years |
The notification also lists relaxations for other groups, such as persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen and certain government employees, in the age-relaxation paragraph. Read that paragraph for your category. Relaxation applies only on the upper limit and only if you hold the proper certificate.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Nationality: RRB recruitment is generally open to Indian citizens. Check the notification for the other categories it permits and the certificates they need.
Valid certificates: Educational, registration and category certificates must be valid and ready at document verification.
One RRB: Apply to the RRB you have selected, since merit is prepared RRB-wise.
Language: The paper is offered in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages.
Medical Standard
The post is in medical category C2. The notification states distance vision of 6/12 (nil), with or without glasses, and near vision N 0.6 combined, with or without glasses, where reading or close work is required. Candidates must also be physically fit in all respects. The medical examination is conducted at the time of document verification, so do not leave vision correction to the last moment.
Who Is Not Eligible
Without registration: A degree alone is not enough. A valid pharmacist registration is required.
Awaiting results: Final-year candidates whose results were not declared by the cut-off date.
Over or under age: Candidates outside the date-of-birth window for their category.
Unrecognised institute: Degrees from institutions not recognised by the relevant government authority.
Failing C2 medical: Candidates who do not meet the vision and fitness standard.
Fee and Documents
The fee is Rs. 500 for general candidates, of which Rs. 400 is refunded after appearing in the CBT. Candidates in the reserved and other listed categories pay Rs. 250, which is refunded after appearing in the CBT, minus bank charges in both cases. Applications closed on 14 October 2026, and the modification window runs from 17 to 26 October 2026. For the full schedule, see the Railway Pharmacist exam overview.
