School Board Exams

RBSE 10th 12th English

RBSE stands for Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (also commonly referred to as BSER — Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan).

RBSE 10th 12th Study Material

The RBSE 10th and 12th board exams are the Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER), headquartered in Ajmer. Every year lakhs of students from government and private schools across Rajasthan, along with private (self-study) candidates, sit these papers in February and March. The 2026-27 session leads to the 2027 exams, and the online application window for them has already closed.

This hub explains both exams together in plain language: who conducts them, what changed for 2027, how marks are split between the board paper and school sessional marks, what you need to pass, and how to prepare. English appears throughout as a worked example because it is compulsory in both classes, but every rule below applies to all subjects. Each section links to a detailed page for that topic.

What Changed for the 2027 Exams

The biggest news for this session is the two-exam system for Class 10. According to reports of an office order issued by the board on 5 October 2026, from the 2026-27 session the Secondary and Praveshika exams will be held twice a year. The main exam stays in February and March and is compulsory for every candidate. A second board exam follows in May and June.

  • Second exam to improve: Students who pass the main exam may take the second exam to improve their marks in up to three subjects.

  • Second exam to clear subjects: Students who score below 33 percent, or are absent, in up to two subjects must take the second exam in those subjects.

  • Repeat the year: Students who fail or miss three or more subjects in the main exam are not allowed in the second exam and must appear in all subjects at the next main exam.

  • Better score counts: For each subject, the higher of the two scores is used in the final result.

  • Supplementary ends for Class 10: The second exam replaces the old supplementary exam for Class 10.

The reported order covers Class 10 and Praveshika only. Nothing in it changes Class 12, so Senior Secondary students should plan around a single main exam and the existing supplementary route unless the board announces otherwise. When this page was written, the full order and the 2027 timetable were not yet listed on the board's notices page, so treat the details above as reported and confirm them on the official website.

Who Can Appear: Eligibility in Brief

Class 10 (Secondary)

You appear as a regular candidate through a school recognised by the board, or as a private (swayampathi) candidate. Private candidates send their forms through the nearest forwarding officer, not directly through a bank. Students coming from another board need an eligibility certificate from BSER before the form can be filled.

Class 12 (Senior Secondary)

To enter Class 12 as a regular student, you must have passed Class 11 with at least 33 percent in each of a minimum of five subjects, and you must meet the board's attendance rules. Private candidates and students from other boards follow the same forwarding and eligibility-certificate route.

Application Fee and How to Apply

Fee stage (regular and private)

Theory exam fee

Normal fee

Rs. 850

With late fee

Rs. 1,100

With double late fee

Rs. 1,350

With one extra exam fee

Rs. 1,700

With penalty fee

Rs. 2,350

A practical exam fee of Rs. 200 per subject is charged separately. Children with special needs, visually impaired and divyang candidates, and children of soldiers killed or disabled in war (and dependants of soldiers killed in the Pulwama attack) are exempt from the exam fee but pay a token fee of Rs. 50 within the dates.

  1. Fill the form through your school: The school head fills each regular student's form online from school records, with name, parents' names and date of birth pulled from the Shala Darpan portal.

  2. Check the printout: Every student signs a provisional printout after checking details such as subjects, category and photo.

  3. Pay through challan: The school prints a challan and deposits the fee in the selected bank by the last date.

  4. Private candidates: Use the nearest forwarding officer, and follow the instructions in the board's private-candidate form guide.

Common problems are wrong caste codes (they cannot be corrected later), unpaid challans and missing eligibility certificates for students from other boards.

The third language is one of Sanskrit, Urdu, Gujarati, Sindhi or Punjabi. Rajasthan History and Culture is examined at school level with a 33 percent pass mark, and subjects such as Physical and Health Education are graded or reported separately and do not count towards your division.

Class 12

Hindi and English are compulsory papers of 80 theory plus 20 sessional marks each. You then take three optional subjects from your stream. Subjects without practicals, such as Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics or History, follow the same 80 plus 20 split. Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 56 theory and 14 sessional marks (pass mark 23 out of 70) plus a 30-mark practical (pass mark 10).

What this means for you: Sessional marks come from your half-yearly and periodic school tests, project work, attendance and conduct, so regular school effort is worth up to 20 marks per subject before you even open the board paper.

Syllabus Summary

The board publishes a subject-wise syllabus for each session. Most core subjects follow NCERT textbooks printed under copyright.

Result, Passing Rules and Division

  1. Pass each subject: You need 33 percent in every subject, with theory and practical cleared separately where a subject has both.

  2. Division: Passed students are placed in first, second or third division based on aggregate marks in the main subjects.

  3. Second chance: Class 10 students now use the second board exam; Class 12 students who narrowly miss in one or two subjects have used the supplementary exam.

In 2026 the board's own result summaries show 97.52 percent of Science and 93.64 percent of Commerce students passing Class 12. The Class 10 pass rate was reported as 94.23 percent. There is no merit cut-off for passing the board exam. The detailed rules are on the RBSE passing marks and division page.

After the result

Results are published on the board's website by roll number, and the online marksheet is provisional until your school hands over the original. If you doubt a subject score, the board runs a scrutiny process after each result, with its own short application window, so watch the notices section in the days after declaration. Older certificates and marksheets have also been made available through DigiLocker, which is useful when you apply for college admission or a scholarship. Keep a printout of your roll number and admit card until you have the original marksheet in hand.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Ignoring sessional marks: Missing periodic tests or projects can cost you several of the 20 school marks in every subject.

  • Studying only the textbook chapters: In languages, unseen passages, grammar and writing carry half or more of the theory marks.

  • Never writing a full paper: A 3 hours 15 minutes paper needs stamina, so practise complete papers before February.

  • Trusting old pages: Older pages may still show the supplementary system for Class 10, so follow the board's latest notice.

  • Leaving form errors: Check your name, date of birth and subjects on the provisional printout, because some details cannot be changed later.

How to Prepare for RBSE 10th and 12th

Term-wise plan

  • July to October: Finish textbook chapters as taught, make short notes and keep your sessional record strong with good half-yearly and periodic test scores.

  • November to December: Complete the syllabus, revise high-weight units and start chapter-wise question practice from the board's model papers.

  • January to the exam: Take full papers in 3 hours 15 minutes, analyse mistakes the same day and revise from your error log.

Using English as an example

In Class 10 English, 40 of the 80 theory marks come from the two literature books, but 40 come from unseen passages, grammar and writing. Practise one unseen passage and one writing task a day from December, and learn the formal letter and analytical paragraph formats until they are automatic. In Class 12, reading, writing and grammar together carry 39 marks, so the same habit pays off.

Mock practice

Timed papers show you whether you can finish all sections. You can attempt RBSE 10th 12th online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to decide what to revise next. Testkart also lists English study material for this exam, which you can pair with the board's own model papers.

Where to Check Official Information

Always confirm dates and rules on the official BSER website. Syllabus files for each session are on the board's syllabus and instructions page. Your school head receives circulars first, so check with your school before any deadline.
