RBSE 10th 12th Syllabus 2026-27: Subject-wise Guide
The RBSE 10th 12th syllabus for the 2026-27 session is published by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER), Ajmer, as one PDF for Class 10 and one for Class 12. Each file lists every subject with its paper scheme, unit-wise marks and prescribed books. Most core subjects now follow NCERT textbooks, so the chapters match what you study in class.
This page turns those files into a working checklist. You get the unit-wise marks for the Class 10 main subjects, the full English breakdown for both classes, the structure of Class 12 stream subjects, and a plan for covering everything before the February exams. Where a figure comes from the previous session's syllabus, it is labelled so you can check the 2026-27 PDF for changes.

Key Changes to Know
New session file: The board has uploaded separate syllabus PDFs for the 2027 exams. Use these, not the 2026 files, for this session.
Two exams for Class 10: As reported, both the main exam and the second exam in May and June cover the full syllabus, so there is no half-syllabus option.
Updated file wins: The board states that if a printed textbook and the uploaded syllabus differ on marks, the updated syllabus on its website is the one that counts.
English Class 10 format: Reading, Writing with Grammar, and Literature now carry 20, 20 and 40 marks, so older pages showing a different split are out of date.
RBSE Class 10 Syllabus
English (subject code 02)
Section | What is tested | Marks |
|---|---|---|
A. Reading | Two unseen passages: a discursive passage of 400 to 450 words and a case-based factual passage of 200 to 250 words with a chart or data | 20 |
B. Grammar | Determiners, tenses, subject-verb concord, reported speech (commands, requests, statements, questions) through gap filling, editing and transformation | 8 |
B. Writing | Formal letter, analytical paragraph on a map, chart or graph, and a report, essay, story or blog, each in 100 to 120 words | 12 |
C. Reference to context | One prose extract from First Flight and one poetry extract | 6 |
C. First Flight | Short answers on prose, poetry and drama, plus one long answer | 22 |
C. Footprints without Feet | Short answers and one long answer on theme, plot or character | 12 |
Total theory | Plus 20 sessional marks | 80 |
Half of the English paper does not depend on the textbooks at all. Start with the grammar topics and the three writing formats, because they are quick to learn and appear every year.
Mathematics (subject code 09)
Unit | Chapters | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Number systems | Real numbers | 4 |
Algebra | Polynomials 4, pair of linear equations 5, quadratic equations 4, arithmetic progressions 5 | 18 |
Geometry | Triangles 4, circles 6 | 10 |
Coordinate geometry | Distance and section formula | 7 |
Trigonometry | Introduction 8, heights and distances 5 | 13 |
Mensuration | Areas related to circles 5, surface areas and volumes 6 | 11 |
Statistics and probability | Statistics 13, probability 4 | 17 |
Total | 80 |
Algebra and statistics with probability together carry 35 marks. Statistics alone is worth 13 marks and follows a fixed method for mean, median and mode of grouped data, so it is one of the most reliable places to score.
Science (subject code 07)
Area | Chapters with marks | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Chemistry | Chemical reactions 6, acids bases and salts 7, metals and non-metals 5, carbon compounds 7 | 25 |
Biology | Life processes 8, control and coordination 6, reproduction 7, heredity 4, our environment 5 | 30 |
Physics | Light 8, human eye 4, electricity 7, magnetic effects of current 6 | 25 |
Total | 13 chapters | 80 |
Life processes and light are the two heaviest chapters at 8 marks each. Learn the diagrams and ray diagrams early, because they also earn marks in short answers.
Social Science (subject code 08)
Part | Main topics | Marks |
|---|---|---|
History | Nationalism in Europe and India, the making of a global world, industrialisation, print culture | 20 |
Geography | Resources and development, forests and wildlife, water resources, agriculture, minerals and energy, manufacturing industries, lifelines of the national economy | 20 |
Political Science | Power sharing, federalism, gender, religion and caste, political parties, outcomes of democracy | 20 |
Economics | Development, sectors of the Indian economy, money and credit, globalisation and the Indian economy, consumer rights | 20 |
Total | 80 |
Each part carries the same 20 marks, so do not spend all your time on History just because it feels like the longest book. Geography map work and the Economics chapters on sectors and money are compact and predictable, which makes them good places to secure marks early in your revision.
Hindi and third language
Hindi (code 01) has unseen reading for 12 marks, composition (essay, letter and summary or expansion) for 14, practical grammar for 10, and the textbooks Kshitij Part 2 for 33 and Kritika Part 2 for 11. The third language is one of Sanskrit, Urdu, Gujarati, Sindhi or Punjabi, each with its own syllabus in the same PDF. Children with special needs are exempt from the third language.

Linear programming | 4 | Graphical method |
Probability | 7 | Conditional probability and Bayes' theorem |
Total | 80 |
Calculus alone is 36 of the 80 marks, almost half the paper. If Mathematics is one of your optional subjects, begin calculus practice early and keep returning to it every week until the exam.
Stream subjects
Stream | Typical subjects | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Science | Physics and Chemistry are compulsory, plus one of Biology, Mathematics, Geology or Computer Science; Mathematics or Biology can be added as a fourth subject | Numerical chapters and practical record work |

Topics Students Often Skip
The case-based passage in Class 10 English: It uses a chart or data, and students who never practise reading numbers in a passage lose easy marks.
Reported speech questions: Questions are a separate sub-topic from statements and commands, and they are often left out of revision.
Probability in Class 10 Mathematics: It carries 4 marks and takes very little time to learn.
Our Environment in Science: A short chapter worth 5 marks that many students leave for the last night.
Consumer Rights in Economics: Short, factual and easy to revise, yet often skipped.
Overlap Between Class 10 and Class 12
Area | Class 10 | Class 12 | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
English grammar | Tenses, determiners, concord, reported speech | Conditionals, synthesis, phrasal verbs, conjunctions | Class 10 accuracy is the base for Class 12 sentence work |
Writing formats | Formal letter, analytical paragraph | Business letter, letter to the editor, report | Keep one format file and add to it each year |
Mathematics | Algebra, trigonometry, statistics | Calculus, vectors, probability | Weak Class 10 algebra slows Class 12 calculus, so fix it first |
Science | Electricity, chemical reactions, heredity | Physics, Chemistry, Biology in depth | Revise Class 10 basics in the first month of Class 11 |
Is There a Syllabus for Sessional Marks?
No separate syllabus exists for the 20 sessional marks. They come from your school's half-yearly exam and three periodic tests, project work, attendance and conduct, all based on the same subject syllabus. Private candidates do not get school sessional marks; their sessional marks are calculated from the theory marks they score.
How to Cover the RBSE Syllabus
July to September: Follow the school order of chapters, make one page of notes per chapter and mark each chapter's weight from the tables above.
October to November: Finish the remaining chapters. In English, start one unseen passage and one writing task every day.
December: Revise high-weight units first: Statistics and Algebra in Mathematics, Life Processes and Light in Science, Literature long answers in English.
January to the exam: Practise topic tests, then full papers, and revise from an error log of every mistake.
