About the Rajasthan Public Service Commission
RPSC is a constitutional body. Article 315 of the Constitution provides for a Public Service Commission in every state, and the Governor appoints its members under Article 316. The Commission was established in 1949 and is headquartered in Ajmer.
Under Article 320, its main duties are to conduct competitive examinations for state government posts and to advise the government on recruitment rules, promotions and disciplinary matters. In practice, a Rajasthan government job at the officer level almost always comes through an RPSC advertisement, a written exam and, for many posts, an interview.

RPSC RAS Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
You need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government in consultation with the Commission. No work experience is required.
Age limit
The age limit is 21 to 40 years, counted as on the date given in the advertisement. Upper age relaxation, as reported for Rajasthan candidates, is shown below.
Category | Upper Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS (men) | 5 years |
SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS (women) | 10 years |
General category women | 5 years |
Widows and divorced women | No upper age limit |
Nationality and attempts
You must be an Indian citizen. Candidates from other states can apply, but they are treated as General category, because reservation benefits are meant for Rajasthan domiciles. There is no fixed limit on attempts as long as you meet the age rule. The advertisement is the final word on every condition, and the detailed RPSC eligibility criteria page explains each one.
Application Fee and How to Apply
Category | Fee |
|---|---|
General and creamy layer of BC and MBC | Rs. 600 |
Non-creamy layer of BC, MBC and EWS | Rs. 400 |
Differently abled, Rajasthan SC and ST, Sahariya, and eligible low-income applicants | Rs. 400 |
The application window for this cycle closed on 3 July 2026. For future RPSC recruitments, the route stays the same:
Register or log in through the Rajasthan SSO portal linked from the RPSC website.
Open the ongoing recruitment section and select the advertisement.
Fill in personal, educational and category details.
Upload the scanned documents asked for.
Check the form, submit it and pay the fee online.
Download and save the confirmation.
Documents and common mistakes
Keep scanned copies of your photograph, signature, graduation certificate, identity proof and, where relevant, category and domicile certificates ready before you open the form. File size and format limits are given in the advertisement. Most avoidable problems are simple: a name that differs between the certificate and the form, a category certificate that is not valid for Rajasthan, or an upload that is unreadable. Check each entry once more before paying, because corrections after submission are allowed only as the Commission notifies.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
RAS has three stages. Only the Mains and Interview marks decide the final merit.
Stage | Format | Marks | Counted in Final Merit |
|---|---|---|---|
Preliminary Examination | One objective paper, 150 questions, 3 hours, one-third negative marking | 200 | No, screening only |
Main Examination | Four descriptive papers, 3 hours each | 800 | Yes |
Interview | Personality test | 100 | Yes |
Final merit | Mains plus Interview | 900 |
Candidates equal to 15 times the number of vacancies are admitted to the Mains. The four Mains papers carry 200 marks each: General Studies Paper I, Paper II and Paper III, and a fourth paper that combines General Hindi and General English.
What this means for you
Treat Prelims as a gate: Its marks do not count, but missing the cut-off ends the attempt. A wrong answer costs one-third of a mark, so skip questions you cannot narrow down.
There is no optional subject: Every candidate writes the same four papers, so breadth matters more than depth in one area.
Give language its share: Paper IV carries 200 marks, the same as each General Studies paper, and includes an essay.
Practise writing early: Mains answers are descriptive and analytical, so timed answer writing needs months, not weeks.
Older pages may still show the earlier pattern or the 29 November date, so follow the official notification.

Salary and Career Growth
Pay depends on the service and follows the Rajasthan pay matrix, with allowances added. For RAS, the entry pay is widely reported at Pay Level 12, with a basic of Rs. 56,100. This is not an official in-hand figure, and it varies by posting and allowances. Check the pay level in the advertisement for the service you want. Promotion within RAS can lead to senior administrative posts over a long career.
How to Prepare for RPSC Exams
Start with the official syllabus and the previous papers. Then prepare in this order:
Rajasthan topics first: History, culture, geography, economy and administration of Rajasthan appear in both stages, so notes made once pay off twice.
Current affairs daily: Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day and keep monthly notes, including Rajasthan schemes.
Mains writing from month three: Write two or three timed answers a week and get them reviewed.
Language paper: Practise Hindi grammar, precis, translation and a 600-word essay regularly.
A simple phased plan
Months 1 and 2, foundation: Read the syllabus line by line, finish one standard source per subject and make short notes.
Months 3 and 4, practice: Solve topic-wise questions and previous papers, and start answer writing for Mains.
Final two months, revision: Take full-length timed tests every week, review every wrong answer and revise your notes twice.
Adjust the timeline to the date you start. Someone beginning close to the Prelims should compress the first phase and move to tests sooner.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt RPSC online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision.
RPSC Cut-off Reference
No official cut-off exists yet for the 2026 cycle. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
RPSC recruitment rewards early, steady preparation and a clear reading of each stage. Use the official site for notices, and keep your practice tied to the revised syllabus.
