RPSC APO Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification Guide
RPSC APO eligibility rests on three things: a professional law degree, an age between 21 and 40, and knowledge of Hindi and of Rajasthan's dialects and customs. The Rajasthan Public Service Commission set these conditions in Advertisement No. 03/EXAM/APO/EP-I/2026-27, dated 27 May 2026, for 371 Assistant Prosecution Officer posts in the Home Department (Prosecution).
Two dates decide most eligibility questions this cycle. Age is counted as on 1 January 2027, and the law degree had to be complete by 7 July 2026, the last date of application. This page explains each condition, the category relaxations and the common reasons a candidature is rejected.

Educational qualification
Professional law degree: You need an LLB that qualifies as a professional law degree, or an integrated law course such as a five-year BA LLB, from a university established by law in India.
No final-year exception: The service rules do not allow candidates to acquire the qualification after the last date. RPSC has made clear that only those who held the degree by the last date of application are eligible.
Hindi and Rajasthan knowledge: Working knowledge of Hindi written in Devanagari and knowledge of Rajasthani dialects and social customs are part of the essential qualification.
No percentage requirement: The advertisement does not prescribe minimum marks in the law degree.
Enter every qualification you held by the last date in your OTR and application. Documents are checked against these entries after the mains, and a mismatch can end your candidature.
Age limit and relaxation
Candidates must be at least 21 years old and below 40 years on 1 January 2027. Age is proved through the Secondary (Class 10) certificate.
This cycle carries an extra concession. The previous APO advertisement in 2024 counted age as on 1 January 2025, and no advertisement followed until 2026. So candidates who are overage on 1 January 2027 get one more year in the upper age limit under the service rules.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS men of Rajasthan | 5 years |
General category women | 5 years |
SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS women of Rajasthan | 10 years |
Widows and divorced women | No upper age limit, but age must not exceed 60 at appointment |
Ex-servicemen | 15 years, with an overall cap of 50 years (55 where lower-post experience is essential) |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 5 years, added on top of any other relaxation |
Persons serving the state, panchayat samitis, zila parishads or state PSUs substantively | Upper age limit of 40 years |
NCC cadet instructors | Relaxation equal to NCC service, up to three years beyond the limit |
Working out your date of birth window
Worked out from the stated rule, a General category man must be born on or before 1 January 2006 and after 1 January 1987. The table applies the main relaxations to that upper limit. These dates are our calculation, not dates printed in the advertisement, so confirm borderline cases against the official text.
Candidate | Upper age limit applied | Born after (approximately) |
|---|---|---|
General man | 40 years | 1 January 1987 |
General man, overage on 1 January 2027 | 41 years (one extra year) | 1 January 1986 |
OBC man of Rajasthan | 45 years | 1 January 1982 |
General woman | 45 years | 1 January 1982 |
SC woman of Rajasthan | 50 years | 1 January 1977 |
Read the extra year carefully. It is given under the service rules to candidates who are overage on 1 January 2027, because the gap between the 2024 and 2026 advertisements would otherwise have pushed them out. Whether it combines with a category relaxation in your case is something to confirm from the advertisement or with RPSC before relying on it.
Dates that decide eligibility
Condition | Date that counts |
|---|---|
Law degree completed | By 7 July 2026 (last date of application) |
Category, EWS and divorce documents | Issued by 7 July 2026 |
Age | As on 1 January 2027 |
Two-child norm | Children born on or after 1 June 2002 |
Not cumulative: Relaxations 1 to 11 in the advertisement cannot be added together; you get the one that helps you most. Only the disability relaxation is added on top.
Proof for widows and divorcees: A widow needs her husband's death certificate, and a divorcee needs the court decree of divorce issued by the last date of application.
Ex-prisoners: Special rules apply to ex-prisoners who served the government before conviction or were within age at conviction.
Nationality, domicile and other conditions
Reservation needs Rajasthan domicile: SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS and ex-servicemen reservation is only for original residents of Rajasthan. Reserved category candidates from other states apply as General.
Women who move to Rajasthan by marriage: Following court rulings cited in the advertisement, a woman from another state who becomes a Rajasthan resident after marriage does not get SC, ST, OBC or MBC reservation.
Creamy layer: OBC and MBC candidates in the creamy layer apply as General.
Category certificates: Caste and EWS certificates should be issued by the last date of application in the prescribed format; the EWS certificate must be issued on the basis of family income and assets.
Two-child norm: A candidate with more than two children on or after 1 June 2002 is not eligible for appointment, with limited exceptions such as a single delivery or a child with a disability from an earlier delivery.
Marriage registration: Registration of marriage is mandatory for government appointment under a 2006 state circular.
Benefits for state employees: Age and other benefits for government employees apply only to Rajasthan government staff.
Scheduled Area eligibility
Of the 371 posts, 15 are reserved for the Scheduled Area. Only residents of Rajasthan's Scheduled Area can apply against these, and they may also apply for Non-Scheduled Area posts. Such candidates must state their preference for the two areas in the online form, or they lose the benefit of Scheduled Area seats.
A Scheduled Area residence certificate, issued in line with the 21 October 2019 notification of the Department of Personnel, has to be produced when RPSC asks for it.
Who is not eligible
Degree not complete by 7 July 2026: Results declared after the last date of application do not count.
Age outside the window: Under 21, or 40 and above on 1 January 2027, after any relaxation that applies to you.
Wrong category claimed: Applying in a reserved category without a valid Rajasthan certificate, or as non-creamy layer when you are not, can lead to cancellation and debarment.
Debarred candidates: Anyone debarred by RPSC, UPSC or another recruiting body for unfair means cannot sit the exam.
False information: Applying with false details is an offence under section 217 of the BNS and can lead to debarment from recruitment exams for three years.
Fee and documents
RPSC uses a one-time registration fee: Rs. 600 for General and creamy layer OBC or MBC candidates, and Rs. 400 for SC, ST, non-creamy layer OBC or MBC, EWS and Sahariya candidates of Rajasthan and for persons with disabilities. Missing two exams in a financial year blocks your OTR until you pay Rs. 750.
