RRB Technician Cut Off: Qualifying Marks and How to Set Your Target

The RRB Technician cut off is the score that decides whether you move on to document verification. It is not a single national number. The RRBs release cut-offs separately for each region and category after the result, and they change with every recruitment cycle.

This page explains the minimum qualifying marks, what drives the final cut-off, and how to set a safe target. We have not listed previous-year cut-off marks here, because the figures sit in region-wise scorecards on the individual RRB websites and we could not verify a consolidated set from an official source.

These are the lowest scores needed to be considered qualified. They are not the selection cut-off, which is almost always higher.

How RRB Technician cut-offs work

  • Region-wise: Each RRB prepares its own merit list for its vacancies.

  • Category-wise: Cut-offs differ for UR, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST, and for post-wise reservations.

  • Post-wise: Grade I Signal and Grade III have separate merit lists because they sit different papers.

  • Normalised scores: Merit uses normalised marks to balance difficulty across exam shifts.

Results and cut-off scorecards are published on the regional RRB websites listed at the unified RRB website.

What affects the cut-off

  • Difficulty level: A harder paper lowers the cut-off, an easier one raises it.

  • Vacancies in your region: More seats usually mean a lower cut-off.

  • Number of applicants: A larger pool raises competition.

  • Normalisation: Your final score can differ from your raw score.

How to set your target

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

  1. Collect your region's previous scorecard from the official RRB website.

  2. Set a mock-test target at least 8 to 10 marks above that figure for your category.

  3. Track accuracy as well as score, since negative marking of one-third mark punishes guesses.
