Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board JE

RSMSSB JE is a recruitment exam conducted by Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board for the recruitment of Junior Engineers, relevant to engineering graduates targeting technical government and PSU roles.

The RSMSSB JE exam recruits Junior Engineers (JEN) for Rajasthan government departments such as the Public Works Department, Water Resources Department and Public Health Engineering Department. The board that runs it was formerly called the Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board (RSMSSB) and now works under the name Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB). Many aspirants still search for it as RSMSSB JE, so this page uses both names.

The latest cycle is Advertisement No. 10/2026, which covers 874 posts across Civil (Degree and Diploma) and Mechanical/Electrical (Diploma). Applications closed on 14 September 2026, and the written exam is tentatively expected in February 2027. This page gives you the key facts, the pattern, the syllabus summary and a preparation plan.

The paper is 2 hours long, and one-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer. Candidates need at least 40% to qualify.

What this means for you:

  • Two-thirds of the paper is technical: Your engineering subject decides your rank.

  • Rajasthan GK is a scoring section: 40 marks of factual content can be revised quickly.

  • Guessing has a cost: Attempt only when you can remove at least one option.

Syllabus summary

Subject

Rajasthan GK

History, art and culture, geography, polity and administration, economy

Civil Engineering

Building materials, strength of materials, structures, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, irrigation, estimation and costing

Mechanical Engineering

Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, theory of machines, manufacturing

Electrical Engineering

The topic lists are working checklists built from the subjects named in the notification and from earlier papers. Use the detailed RSMSSB JE syllabus page to plan your study.

Selection process

  1. Written examination: 120 marks, with a 40% qualifying minimum.

  2. Document verification: Shortlisted candidates are called to verify qualification, category and domicile documents.

Final merit is based on the written exam score, subject to successful document verification. Always confirm in the advertisement whether any further stage applies.

Salary and career growth

The post is placed in Level 10 of the Rajasthan pay matrix. Selected candidates serve a two-year probation, during which a fixed remuneration is paid, and the usual allowances are not admissible during probation. The in-hand salary after confirmation depends on allowances and your posting, so any figure quoted on a website is an estimate rather than an official number.

How to prepare

Build the technical base first

Start with the core subjects of your branch. For Civil, give priority to strength of materials, structures, soil mechanics, hydraulics and estimation. Solve numericals daily, because most technical questions test application, not definitions.

Treat Rajasthan GK as a separate project

Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day on Rajasthan history, geography, art and culture, and economy. Make short notes with names, dates and places, and revise them weekly.

Practise in the real pattern

Mock tests show you how to split two hours across 120 questions. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level.

A simple phased plan works well. Use the first weeks for concepts and notes, the middle weeks for topic-wise tests, and the last weeks for full-length mocks with same-day analysis and revision of an error log.

Cut-off reference

The board has published category-wise cut-offs for earlier cycles, and Civil and Electrical cut-offs in the general category have usually been higher than those of reserved categories. Cut-offs change with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants, so treat old figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them.
