RSSB Lab Technician Eligibility 2026: Qualification and Age Limit

RSSB Lab Technician eligibility rests on three things: a science background at Senior Secondary level, a diploma in medical laboratory or blood bank technology, and registration with the Rajasthan council. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB, formerly RSMSSB) set these rules for both Contractual Medical Lab Technician (NHM) and Contractual Lab Technician (RajMES) in Advertisement No. 01/2025.

The rules below are from that latest cycle, including the amended qualification notice of 1 April 2025. A new cycle may revise them, so read this page as a strong guide and confirm against the next advertisement before you apply.

Educational Qualification

The original advertisement of 28 January 2025 listed Senior Secondary in Science with Biology. The amended notice dated 1 April 2025 revised the qualification for 414 Medical Lab Technician and 321 Lab Technician posts, as per departmental provisions, to the following:

  1. Senior Secondary: Senior Secondary in Science with Biology or Mathematics.

  2. Diploma: Diploma in Medical Lab Technician or Diploma in Blood Bank Technology.

  3. Registration: Registered with the Rajasthan Para Medical Council, now named the Rajasthan State Allied and Healthcare Council.

All three conditions apply together. The notification also states that the required educational qualification must be obtained by the last date of the online application, and that eligibility is checked in full at document verification. A candidate found ineligible at that stage loses the candidature even after clearing the exam.

What This Means for Diploma Students

  • Final-year students: If your diploma result or council registration will not be ready by the closing date, you were not eligible under the 2025 rules.

  • Mathematics stream: Since the amendment, Senior Secondary with Mathematics is accepted, not only Biology.

  • Blood bank diploma: A Diploma in Blood Bank Technology is accepted as an alternative to the MLT diploma.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Candidates had to be at least 21 years old and not yet 40 as on 1 January 2026. The board counts age from the first of January following the last date of application, which is why a 2025 recruitment used a 2026 reference date.

45 years

SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS men of Rajasthan

45 years

As per the Rajasthan Civil Services (Absorption of Ex-Servicemen) Rules, 1988

Persons with benchmark disability

5 years over the applicable limit

Category limit plus 5 years

Widows and divorced women

No upper age limit

Up to the retirement age set by the state

The first three relaxations are not cumulative, so you get the highest single one that applies to you. Reserved category candidates from other states are treated as General for age and fee purposes.

Age Calculation Example

With 1 January 2026 as the reference date, a candidate born on 1 January 2005 turned 21 exactly on that date and met the minimum age. At the other end, a General category man had to be under 40 on 1 January 2026, so he needed to be born after 1 January 1986. A reserved category woman from Rajasthan, with 10 years of relaxation, could be up to 50 on the same date. Always use the exact cut-off wording in the advertisement, because a single day can decide eligibility.

Domicile, Reservation and Scheduled Area

  • Reservation benefits: Category reservation for SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS applies to bona fide residents of Rajasthan. Candidates from other states can apply in the General category.

  • Horizontal reservation: Posts are also reserved horizontally for women, ex-servicemen, persons with benchmark disability and outstanding sportspersons, as listed in the advertisement.

  • Scheduled area posts: Posts were split into non-scheduled and scheduled (TSP) area. Scheduled area posts are meant for local residents of the scheduled area, under the special provisions in the notification.

  • Disability suitability: The advertisement lists which categories of benchmark disability are suitable for each post, so check the table for Lab Technician and Medical Lab Technician before claiming the benefit.

Nationality

  • Indian citizen: Citizens of India are eligible.

  • Nepal or Bhutan: Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan are eligible.

  • Tibetan refugees: Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently.

  • Persons of Indian origin: Persons of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or the East African and other countries listed in the notification to settle permanently in India.

Candidates in the last three groups need an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.

Other Conditions

  • Health and character: Candidates must be in good mental and physical health and of good character, with certificates as required.

  • Two-child rule: A candidate with more than two children, where any child was born on or after 1 June 2002, is not eligible for appointment, subject to the exceptions in the rules.

  • Marriage: A man with more than one living wife, or a woman married to a man with a living wife, is not eligible unless exempted. Taking dowry also bars appointment, and marriage registration is required.

  • Serving employees: Candidates already in government or other service need a no objection certificate from their employer at the time of appointment.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Missing registration: Holding the diploma but not the Rajasthan council registration by the closing date.

  • Wrong stream: Senior Secondary without Science, or Science without Biology or Mathematics.

  • Age outside the window: Under 21 or above the upper limit after the applicable relaxation as on the reference date.

  • Unfair means: Candidates debarred by the board for impersonation, forged documents or unfair means.

Fee and Documents

RSSB collects a one-time registration fee of Rs. 600 for General and creamy layer OBC or MBC candidates, and Rs. 400 for non-creamy layer OBC or MBC, EWS, SC and ST candidates of Rajasthan and for persons with disability. Keep your Senior Secondary marksheet, diploma, council registration, category, domicile and disability certificates ready, with dates on or before the last date of application.
