SBI CBO Eligibility : Age, Qualification and Experience
To be eligible for SBI CBO, you must be a graduate with at least two years of officer-level experience in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or a listed Regional Rural Bank, and you must be between 21 and 30 years of age on the cut-off date, with category-wise relaxation. You also need to read, write and understand one local language of the Circle you choose.
This page explains the SBI CBO eligibility criteria for the 2026 cycle (Advertisement No. CRPD/CBO/2025-26/18, dated 29 January 2026, with the corrigendum dated 11 February 2026). It covers qualification, experience, age, category rules, documents and the conditions that lead to rejection. Because eligibility is checked again at screening, the interview and joining, it helps to understand each rule before you apply.

Educational Qualification
You need a graduation degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government. The advertisement does not mention a minimum percentage.
Qualifications that are accepted
Any graduation: Arts, commerce, science, law, management and other streams are all acceptable.
Integrated Dual Degree (IDD): Candidates holding an IDD certificate from a recognised university are eligible.
Professional qualifications: Medical, engineering, Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant qualifications are also eligible.
Date of passing
The date of passing is the date shown on the mark sheet or provisional certificate. Keep this document ready, because SBI checks it when it verifies your documents.
Work Experience Requirement
Experience is the main condition that separates SBI CBO from fresher recruitments. The 2026 advertisement requires a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or a Regional Rural Bank included in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, as on 31 December 2025.
What counts as officer experience
Officer cadre only: Experience must be as an officer, so clerical-cadre experience does not meet the stated requirement.
After your qualification: The two years must be counted after you passed the qualifying degree.
Job profile match: Your employer must certify your job profile, and it must substantially match that of a Scale-I Generalist Officer in SBI. A Screening Committee checks this, and applications that do not match are rejected.
Bank type: Experience must come from a Scheduled Commercial Bank or a listed Regional Rural Bank.
Corrigendum on salary proof
The original advertisement had a rule that candidates from non-public-sector scheduled commercial banks must show a minimum annual gross salary of Rs. 9.50 lakh for each year, with proof. The corrigendum dated 11 February 2026 removed this clause. The experience requirement itself was not changed. If you see the salary clause on older pages, it no longer applies to this cycle.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The age limit for the 2026 cycle is not below 21 and not above 30 years as on 31 December 2025. The advertisement states that candidates must have been born not later than 31 December 2004 and not earlier than 1 January 1996, both days inclusive.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC and ST | 5 years |
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
PwBD (General or EWS) | 10 years |
PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
PwBD (SC or ST) | 15 years |
Ex-servicemen, commissioned officers, ECOs and SSCOs (with five years of military service, released as specified) | 5 years |
Age relaxation is not cumulative. You cannot add two relaxations together, and the benefit of one item in the list cannot be combined with another. Certificates supporting age relaxation are checked at the interview and at joining.
Use the date of birth shown in your date-of-birth proof, and keep it identical across your application and documents.
Local Language Requirement
You must be proficient in at least one of the specified local languages of the Circle you apply to. Proficiency means reading, writing and understanding the language. SBI tests this before joining through a local language proficiency test.
You are exempt from the test if your Class 10 or Class 12 certificate shows that you studied the language. The table below lists the languages by Circle.

For Guwahati, the advertisement also allows English for candidates who studied and passed English as a subject in a school in Nagaland or Arunachal Pradesh. Your Circle also decides where you are posted, so pick one you can live in for many years. The advertisement bars inter-Circle transfer until promotion to SMGS-IV or 12 years of service, whichever is later.
Category and Certificate Rules
OBC: Only Non-Creamy Layer candidates can apply as OBC. The OBC (NCL) certificate must be issued between 1 April 2025 and the interview date. Creamy layer candidates must apply as General.
EWS: You need an Income and Asset Certificate based on the gross income of FY 2024-25 and valid for 2025-26, issued by a Competent Authority. EWS vacancies are tentative and subject to Government directions.
SC and ST: The caste certificate must be in the prescribed format and is checked at the interview.
PwBD: The advertisement gives 4% horizontal reservation. Benchmark disability means not less than 40%. The disability certificate must be from a Competent Authority and dated on or before the last date of registration.
No change after registration: Your category cannot be changed once you register, so choose it with care.
Who Is Not Eligible
Even if you meet the qualification, experience and age rules, you cannot be selected in these situations, according to the advertisement:
Loan or credit card default: Candidates in default on loans or credit cards, unless regularised, are not eligible.
Adverse reports: Candidates with an adverse character or moral turpitude report are not eligible.
Subsidiary employees: Candidates working in subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks are not eligible.
SBI clerical or supervisory staff: Employees in the clerical or supervisory cadre of SBI, and candidates on contract with SBI, are not eligible.
Past SBI officers: Candidates who resigned from officer grade in SBI or its Associate Banks, or who left after a contract engagement, are not eligible.
Multiple applications: This is not a disqualification, but only your last valid application is kept and the fee for the others is forfeited.
Which Candidate Profiles Are Eligible
The table applies the 2026 rules to common situations. It is a guide only. Your final eligibility is decided by SBI on the basis of the advertisement and your documents.
Profile | Eligible under the stated rules? | Why |
|---|---|---|

Officer with 2 or more years in a public sector bank | Yes, if the job profile matches | Meets the bank type and experience rule |
Officer with 2 or more years in a private scheduled commercial bank | Yes, if the job profile matches | The salary clause was removed by the corrigendum |
Officer in a listed Regional Rural Bank | Yes, if the job profile matches | Regional Rural Banks in the RBI Second Schedule are named |
Clerical-cadre employee of a bank | No, on the stated officer requirement | Experience must be as an officer |

How to Check Your Eligibility Before Applying
Check the qualification date. Confirm that you passed your degree before you completed your two years of experience, and that your certificate shows the date.
Count your officer experience. Count only months worked in an officer position in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or listed Regional Rural Bank, up to the reference date.
Compare your job profile. Ask your employer for a certificate that clearly lists your duties, such as credit, deposits, operations, customer service and compliance, so the match with a Scale-I generalist role is visible.
Work out your age. Subtract your date of birth from the reference date, then add your category relaxation to the upper limit.
Choose your Circle. Check your language ability, and plan for the local language test if you did not study the language in school.
Collect your certificates. Confirm that your OBC, EWS, SC, ST or disability certificate meets the date rules above.
Example: A General category candidate born on 15 March 1998 was about 27 years and 9 months old on 31 December 2025, so the candidate meets the age rule. An OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidate gets an upper limit of 33 years instead of 30 because of the 3-year relaxation.
Common Eligibility Mistakes
Counting clerical experience: Only officer-cadre experience counts, so check your designation and scale.
Using an old certificate: An OBC or EWS certificate outside the date rules in the advertisement can cost you the category benefit.
Following older pages: The Rs. 9.50 lakh salary clause was removed by the corrigendum, but some pages still mention it. Always rely on the latest SBI documents.
Skipping the corrigendum: Read both the advertisement and the corrigendum for every cycle.
Weak language preparation: If you have not studied the local language, practise it early, because failing the proficiency test means no appointment.
