Government regulations provide upper age limit relaxations for candidates belonging to reserved categories:

1. General Posts (Majority of CGL Posts)
Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in any stream (B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.Tech, BBA, BCA, etc.) from a UGC-recognized University or Institute.
Minimum Percentage: Nil. A candidate with passing marks in graduation satisfies the criteria.
2. Specialised Posts with Additional Academic Criteria
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level OR Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.

3. Rule for Final Year Appearing Students
Candidates in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply, provided they obtain their official qualifying result/degree on or before the crucial cutoff date mentioned in the official notification.
6. Physical & Medical Standards for Uniform Posts
Physical standards apply only to specific operational/field posts. Candidates opting for administrative roles (ASO in CSS/MEA, Auditor, Tax Assistant) are completely exempt from physical measurements.
1. Inspector (Central Excise / Preventive Officer / Examiner) & CBN
Gender | Height Standard | Chest Measurement | Mandatory Physical Test |

7. Crucial Eligibility Clarifications
Distance Education Degrees: Degrees obtained through Open Learning (IGNOU, Distance Universities) are 100% valid, provided the university/course is recognised by UGC/DEB.
Academic Gap / Career Break: Preparation gaps or drop years have zero impact on eligibility. SSC does not penalize or ask for gap certificates.
No Attempt Cap: Candidates can attempt the SSC CGL examination as many times as they want, as long as they satisfy the post-wise upper age limit.
Name / DOB Discrepancy: The candidate's name and date of birth must match the Matriculation certificate exactly. Corrections on Aadhaar/PAN do not override 10th-grade mark sheets.
