Supreme Court Law Clerk Study Notes
Concise Supreme Court Law Clerk notes on core law subjects, new criminal laws and recent judgments.
Supreme Court Law Clerk study notes need to do two jobs. For Part I, they must let you revise six law subjects and a year of judgments quickly. For Part II, they must give you authorities you can cite in a case synopsis, research memo or analytical answer. Short, well-organised notes that you build up over months are more useful in the final weeks than any thick textbook.
What Your Notes Should Cover
Area | What to note |
|---|---|
Constitution of India | Key Articles with one leading case each; recent Constitution Bench rulings |
BNS, BNSS and BSA | Section mapping with IPC, CrPC and the Evidence Act; new offences and changed timelines |
CPC and Contract Act | Core sections and orders, maxims and short illustrations |
Recent judgments | Case name, bench, issue, holding and the earlier ruling it changed |
Legal writing | Templates for the case synopsis and research memo, and useful phrasing |
How to Organise Your Notes
One-page subject sheets: The most tested provisions of each subject on a single page.
Monthly judgment notes: A five-line summary for each important ruling, filed by month and by subject.
Error log: Every mock mistake with the correct rule, reviewed weekly.
Writing file: Your best synopsis and memo drafts with examiner-style comments.
A sample judgment note
Keep each judgment note to five lines: case name and year, bench strength, the legal question, the holding, and the earlier ruling it followed, changed or overruled. Add one line on how you could use it in a Part II answer. Notes in this format are quick to revise for Part I and easy to cite in writing.
Revision Schedule
Weekly: Revise the subject sheets for the subjects you studied that week and your error log.
Monthly: Revise all judgment notes for the month and test yourself on the holdings.
Final four weeks: Revise only from your notes, the official judgment list and the error log.
Last two days: Read only your one-page subject sheets and synopsis template, and avoid starting new topics.
Reliable Sources
Build your notes from bare acts and from judgments read in full. Use the official scheme, the judgment list for the cycle and past question papers from the Supreme Court website. Official notices page: https://www.sci.gov.in/judicial-clerkship/
Notes work best when every mock test feeds them. After each test, add your mistakes to the error log and update the relevant subject sheet.
