TCS Fresher Hiring Exam Pattern 2026

The TCS fresher hiring exam pattern changes with the programme. For IT roles, the NQT drive uses a single integrated test of 190 minutes with a Foundation part and an Advanced part. BPS, MBA, B.Sc Ignite and Atlas drives use shorter tests of 65 to 120 minutes.

This page covers the pattern for TCS fresher hiring as a whole, based on TCS careers pages and TCS iON reviewed in October 2026. For NQT variants, scorecards and test-specific rules, see the TCS NQT exam pattern.

Foundation totals 75 minutes and Advanced totals 115 minutes. The Advanced part is mandatory if you want a Prime or Digital offer. Ninja offers are made based on test performance.

TCS iON lists its IT NQT variant at 237 marks over 220 minutes, with 130 marks for Foundation, 107 marks for Advanced and a separate 30-minute psychometric test that carries no marks. That 220 minutes is the 190-minute integrated test plus the psychometric test. The number of questions is not stated on the pages reviewed.

Marking and Negative Marking

TCS iON states that the NQT has no negative marking. The TCS pages for the individual hiring drives do not describe a marking scheme, so read the instructions shown at the start of your own test. Use the marks split above for the NQT IT variant and treat anything else as unconfirmed.

What the Pattern Means for You

  • Each section has its own clock: the 25-minute Foundation slots mean you cannot save time in one section for another, so practise with a timer for each.

  • Coding is the biggest block: 90 of the 115 Advanced minutes go to coding, so a weak coding score limits Prime and Digital chances.

  • No negative marking on the NQT: where TCS iON states this, attempting every question is a sensible approach, but confirm in your test instructions.

  • Shorter route tests reward speed: BPS gives 65 minutes for three aptitude areas, so accuracy under time pressure matters most.

Older pages and videos may show earlier formats. Follow the pattern on the current TCS page for your drive.

Pattern for Other TCS Routes

For B.Sc Ignite, coding is optional, so decide early whether to attempt it. For MBA hiring, the third section is Business Aptitude rather than reasoning. For Atlas, subject sections in statistics, mathematics and economics sit beside programming and verbal ability. Eligibility for each route is on the TCS fresher hiring eligibility page.

Later Stages

After the test, shortlisted candidates attend an interview where original academic documents are verified. The TCS pages reviewed do not describe interview rounds or weightage, so a final merit formula cannot be stated. Eligibility is checked at every stage.

Time Management

  1. Start with the questions you can solve quickly and mark the rest for later within the same section.

  2. In Foundation, aim to leave a few minutes at the end of each 25-minute slot for review.

  3. In coding, read the full problem, plan, then code, and test with edge cases before submitting.

Check the live pattern on the official TCS All India NQT hiring page and the TCS iON NQT page. For the topics inside each section, see the TCS fresher hiring syllabus.
