TCS Fresher Hiring Syllabus 2026: Section-Wise Guide
The TCS fresher hiring syllabus depends on the route you apply through. For IT roles such as Ninja, Digital and Prime, the TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) drive uses a Foundation part and an Advanced part. BPS, MBA, B.Sc Ignite and Atlas drives use shorter tests with different sections.
TCS names the test sections on its careers pages but, on the pages reviewed in October 2026, it does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topic lists below are a working checklist built from the published section names and from the usual content of aptitude, verbal and coding tests. Use them to plan, not as an official list.
Table of Contents
Syllabus at a Glance
Part | Section | Time |
|---|---|---|
Part A: Foundation (75 minutes) | Numerical Ability | 25 minutes |
Part A: Foundation | Verbal Ability | 25 minutes |
Part A: Foundation | Reasoning Ability | 25 minutes |
Part B: Advanced (115 minutes) | Advanced Quantitative and Reasoning Ability | 25 minutes |
Part B: Advanced | Advanced Coding | 90 minutes |
This structure is from the All India NQT hiring page on tcs.com. The Advanced part is mandatory if you want a Prime or Digital offer.
Foundation Part Topics
Foundation is the base for every IT offer, including Ninja. Topics below are a working checklist.
Section | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Numerical Ability | Number system, percentages, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, averages, time and work, time, speed and distance, simple and compound interest, data interpretation | Percentages and ratio, because other topics build on them |
Verbal Ability | Reading comprehension, grammar and error spotting, sentence completion, vocabulary, para-jumbles | Reading comprehension and grammar rules |
Reasoning Ability | Series, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions, seating arrangement, syllogisms, puzzles, data sufficiency | Series and arrangement puzzles |
Each Foundation section has its own 25-minute slot, so speed in one section cannot be traded against another. Practise each section on its own clock.
Advanced Part Topics
Advanced Quantitative and Reasoning Ability
Expect harder versions of the Foundation areas, with multi-step problems. A sensible checklist includes:
Quantitative: permutations and combinations, probability, algebra, geometry and mensuration, number theory and higher-level data interpretation.
Reasoning: complex arrangements, logical deduction, input-output style puzzles and data sufficiency.
Advanced Coding
The coding section is the longest block in the test at 90 minutes. TCS pages reviewed do not list topics or programming languages, so check the language options in your test instructions. A sound checklist covers:
Basics: input and output handling, loops, conditions, functions and edge cases.
Data structures: arrays, strings, linked lists, stacks, queues, trees and hash maps.
Algorithms: sorting, searching, recursion, greedy methods, dynamic programming basics and graph traversal.
Problem solving: reading the problem statement carefully, writing clean code and testing with your own cases.
Syllabus for Other TCS Routes
These sections are as published on the respective TCS hiring pages.
Route | Duration | Sections published |
|---|---|---|
B.Sc Ignite | 120 minutes | Numerical Ability, Verbal Ability, Reasoning Ability, Coding (optional) |
MBA hiring | 90 minutes | Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability, Business Aptitude |
Atlas | 115 minutes | Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Programming, Verbal Ability |
BPS | 65 minutes | Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning |
For BPS and B.Sc Ignite, the aptitude topics in the Foundation checklist above are the right starting point. For Atlas, prepare your subject core in statistics, mathematics and economics, and keep programming practice going.
Overlap Between Sections
Area | Foundation | Advanced | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Quantitative | Numerical Ability | Advanced Quantitative | Master the basics first, then add permutation, probability and algebra |
Reasoning | Reasoning Ability | Advanced Reasoning | Solve easier puzzles fast, then move to multi-condition ones |
Verbal | Verbal Ability | Not tested separately | Keep a short daily reading habit |
Coding | Not tested | Advanced Coding | Needs the longest preparation, so start it first |
Is There an Interview Syllabus
The TCS pages reviewed do not publish an interview syllabus or describe interview rounds. Shortlisted candidates present original academic documents at the interview. Prepare your core subjects, your projects and the basics of the language you code in, and follow the instructions TCS sends you.
How to Cover the Syllabus
Weeks 1 to 3: revise numerical, verbal and reasoning basics, and begin daily coding practice.
Weeks 4 to 6: take topic-wise tests and 25-minute sectional tests to match the timing.
Weeks 7 to 9: add Advanced quantitative and reasoning sets and 90-minute coding sessions.
Final weeks: attempt full-length tests, analyse them the same day and revise your error log.
Confirm the sections for your route on the official TCS All India NQT hiring page, and return to the TCS fresher hiring overview for the full process.
