Selection process

  1. Written examination: two objective papers, with the Tamil eligibility test as a qualifying hurdle.

  2. Rank list: prepared on the 450 ranking marks, applying reservation rules and minimum qualifying marks.

  3. Certificate verification: candidates in the shortlist are called to verify documents.

  4. Counselling and allotment: posts are allotted by rank and preference.

There is no interview in the 2022 cycle scheme. Always confirm this in the new notification.

How to apply

Applications go through the One Time Registration system on the official TNPSC website. In the 2022 cycle the registration fee was Rs. 150 and the examination fee was Rs. 100, with exemptions for SC, ST, destitute widows and candidates with benchmark disabilities. Keep your degree certificates, community certificate and a scanned photograph and signature ready before you start.

How to prepare

Paper I carries two thirds of your ranking marks, so it decides your rank. Start there, and treat Paper II as a scoring opportunity that is easy to neglect.

  • Build the Paper I core first: probability, distributions, estimation and hypothesis testing take the most effort, so finish them before sampling, quality control and index numbers.

  • Add General Studies steadily: 30 to 40 minutes a day on polity, economy, Tamil Nadu history and current events works better than cramming.

  • Do not ignore Tamil: the Part A qualifying mark is a hurdle even for strong statistics candidates.

  • Practise under time: each question gives you about 54 seconds across both papers, so speed matters.

Once you have a few scores, the cut-off guide will help you set a target.
