TNPSC Combined Statistical Subordinate Service Cut-Off

The TNPSC Combined Statistical Subordinate Service cut-off is not a single number. Two things decide whether you are selected: the minimum qualifying marks you must clear, and your rank among candidates who clear them. This page explains both and shows how to set a realistic target.

We have not been able to verify a published category-wise final cut-off for this exam, so we do not list one. Quoting unofficial figures would mislead you. Instead, we give the qualifying rules from the most recent cycle we could verify (2022) and a method to build your own target. For any official figures, look under the results section of tnpsc.gov.in.

These minimums are as reported for the 2022 cycle and can change with a new notification. Reaching them only keeps you eligible for the rank list. Cut-offs change every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat any past figure as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass.

What affects the cut-off

  • Number of vacancies: in the 2022 cycle, 211 of 217 posts were Assistant Statistical Investigator, so the line was driven by that post. A smaller notification pushes the line up.

  • Paper difficulty: a harder Paper I lowers the scores of everyone, and the cut-off moves with it.

  • Number of applicants: more candidates mean tighter competition for the same posts.

  • Reservation: category-wise vacancies lead to different effective lines for each category.

How to set your target

  1. Secure the minimums first. Make sure you are well above 180 of 450 in practice, even if your category needs 135, and above 60 of 150 in the Tamil test.

  2. Weight Paper I. It carries 300 of the 450 ranking marks, so work out a Paper I goal of at least 70 percent in your mocks.

  3. Treat Part B as a safe 100. A steady score of 90 or more out of 150 in General Studies and aptitude gives you a base that most candidates lack.

  4. Track the trend. Your average over the last five mocks is more reliable than your best score.
