TS ICET Eligibility Criteria 2026: MBA, MCA, Age and Local Status
TS ICET eligibility decides two things: whether you can sit the test, and whether you can claim a seat in counselling afterwards. TG ICET, the current official name of TS ICET, is the entrance test for MBA and MCA admissions in Telangana universities and their affiliated colleges. It is conducted on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, and Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda conducted the 2026 cycle.
Many students check only the degree requirement and miss the conditions that matter later, such as the Mathematics rule for MCA, minimum marks in the degree, and local status for the 85% local quota. This page covers each condition in order, explains who is not eligible, and lists the documents you will need to prove eligibility at counselling. The rules below follow the 2026 notification as reported; always confirm them in the information bulletin for your cycle.
Table of Contents

Educational Qualification for MBA
For MBA admission, you need a bachelor's degree of at least three years' duration from a university recognised in India. Graduates from any stream can apply, which is why the MBA candidate pool is large and varied.
Accepted degrees: B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BBM, BCA, B.E., B.Tech, B.Pharmacy and other three- or four-year bachelor's degrees.
Excluded degrees: Degrees in Oriental Languages are not accepted for MBA.
Duration: The degree must be at least three years long. Two-year degrees do not qualify.
Educational Qualification for MCA
MCA has an extra condition: Mathematics. You need a bachelor's degree with Mathematics studied either at Class 12 (intermediate) level or as a subject at graduation level.
Your background | Eligible for MCA? |
|---|---|
BCA, B.Sc, B.Com or B.A. with Mathematics in Class 12 | Yes, if the marks requirement is met |
Any eligible degree with Mathematics as a degree subject | Yes, if the marks requirement is met |
Degree without Mathematics at Class 12 or degree level | No |
B.E. or B.Tech with Mathematics at Class 12 | Generally yes; confirm in the bulletin |
If you are unsure whether a subject such as Business Mathematics or Statistics counts as Mathematics at degree level, check with the counselling help line before relying on it. The decision is made at certificate verification, not at the time you apply for the test.
Minimum Marks in the Qualifying Degree
Passing the degree is not enough. You also need a minimum aggregate percentage, which is checked at counselling.
Category | Minimum aggregate in degree |
|---|---|
General (OC) | 50% |
Reserved categories | 45% |
Sources differ on exactly which categories receive the 45% concession; recent notices refer to reserved categories, with some listing SC, ST and BC. Read the definition in your bulletin. If your university gives a CGPA, convert it using the formula printed on your marks memo or provided by your university, because the counselling team will check the percentage figure.
Final-Year Students and Distance Degrees
Final-year students
Students in the final year of their degree can apply for TS ICET. However, you must have passed the degree with the required percentage by the time of counselling and admission. If your final results are delayed beyond the counselling dates, you may lose the chance to take a seat in that round.
Open and distance learning degrees
Degrees earned through open or distance learning are accepted only if the programme is recognised by the competent authorities under UGC, AICTE and DEB norms. Keep proof of recognition ready, as it may be asked for during verification.
TS ICET Age Limit
No upper age limit is reported for appearing in TS ICET. Working professionals and candidates who graduated several years ago can apply.
A separate age limit applies only to fee reimbursement (the state scholarship scheme), not to the entrance test. The 2026 counselling notification, as reported, set these limits as on 1 July 2026:
Category | Upper age limit for fee reimbursement |
|---|---|
OC | 30 years |
Reserved categories | 34 years |
If you are above these limits, you can still take the test and join a college, but you may have to pay the full tuition fee yourself. Confirm the limits in the counselling notification for your year.
Nationality and Local or Non-Local Status
Nationality
You must be an Indian national. Candidates of other nationalities are considered only under the separate rules of the admitting university.
How the local quota works
Seats under the convener quota are divided between local and unreserved candidates. As per the 2026 counselling notification, 85% of seats are reserved for local candidates and the remaining 15% are unreserved.
Quota | Share of convener seats | Who can claim |
|---|---|---|
Local | 85% | Candidates who meet Telangana local status rules |
Unreserved | 15% | Eligible candidates as defined in the notification |
Who counts as a local candidate
Local status is decided under the state's Regulation of Admissions Order. In general, it depends on where you studied in the years leading up to your qualifying examination, typically at least four consecutive academic years in Telangana. Candidates who did not study in any institution during that period may be judged on residence instead. The exact definition is in the information bulletin and should be read before you fill the local status field in the application.
Candidates from Andhra Pradesh and other states
Candidates from other states can take the test if they meet the qualification rules, but they compete only for seats open to non-local candidates. Reports on the 2026 cycle state that Andhra Pradesh candidates are now treated as non-local in Telangana, following the end of the ten-year common admission period under the AP Reorganisation Act. Treat this as reported and confirm the current rule in the bulletin, because it affects which seats you can claim.
Qualifying Marks in the Entrance Test
Being eligible to apply is the first step. To receive a rank, you must also reach the qualifying mark in the test.
Category | Qualifying marks (out of 200) |
|---|---|
OC and BC | 50 (25%) |
SC and ST | No minimum prescribed |
A rank alone does not guarantee a seat. Admission also depends on your rank position, category, local status, web options and the seats available.
Eligibility in Common Situations
These examples apply the rules above to situations students often ask about. They are a guide only; the bulletin and certificate verification decide each case.
Situation | MBA | MCA |
|---|---|---|
B.Tech graduate with 62% aggregate | Eligible | Eligible if Mathematics was studied at Class 12 |
B.Com graduate with 48%, OC category | Not eligible (below 50%) | Not eligible (below 50%) |
B.A. graduate with 55%, no Mathematics after Class 10 | Eligible | Not eligible (no Mathematics at Class 12 or degree level) |
Final-year B.Sc student awaiting results | Can apply; must pass with required marks before admission | Same, plus the Mathematics condition |
Graduate aged 36 through a recognised distance programme | Eligible for the test; fee reimbursement may not apply | Eligible if Mathematics condition is met |
Graduate who studied Classes 6 to 12 outside Telangana | Can apply; likely non-local for seat allotment | Same |
Who Is Not Eligible
Two-year degree holders: The degree must be at least three years long.
Oriental Languages graduates (for MBA): These degrees are excluded.
Graduates without Mathematics (for MCA): Mathematics at Class 12 or degree level is compulsory.
Candidates below the minimum percentage: You can sit the test, but you will not be admitted if your degree aggregate is below 50% (or 45% for reserved categories).
Unrecognised distance degrees: Programmes not recognised under UGC, AICTE and DEB norms are not accepted.
Final-year students who do not pass in time: Your admission is cancelled if you cannot show the passed degree with the required marks.
Eligibility Checklist Before You Apply
Confirm your degree: Check that it is at least three years long and from a recognised university.
Check your percentage: Calculate your aggregate, or expected aggregate if you are in the final year, against the 50% or 45% requirement.
Check Mathematics for MCA: Look at your Class 12 and degree marks memos for a Mathematics paper.
Work out your local status: List where you studied for the years before your qualifying exam and match it with the bulletin definition.
Collect certificates early: Study certificates, caste and income certificates can take weeks to obtain, so apply for them before counselling.
Match your details: Make sure your name and date of birth are identical across your Class 10 memo, Aadhaar and application form.
Common eligibility mistakes
Choosing the wrong local status: A wrong entry can cost you a local seat or lead to rejection at verification.
Assuming any graduate can join MCA: The Mathematics condition is checked strictly.
Ignoring the income certificate date: For fee reimbursement, the certificate must be issued within the period stated in the counselling notification.
Documents to Prove Eligibility
Eligibility is checked in full at certificate verification during counselling. Keep originals and two sets of photocopies of the following ready:
TG ICET rank card and hall ticket
Aadhaar card
Class 10 (SSC) marks memo, for date of birth
Intermediate or Class 12 marks memo-cum-pass certificate
Degree marks memos and provisional or original degree certificate
Study or bonafide certificates for the years used to decide local status
Transfer certificate from the last institution
Caste or community certificate, EWS certificate and income certificate, if applicable
The application fee for 2026 was Rs. 750 for general candidates and Rs. 550 for SC, ST and differently abled candidates.
