UKPSC Upper PCS Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification
UKPSC Upper PCS eligibility depends on three things: your age on 1 July 2026, your degree, and the post you want. Candidates between 21 and 42 years with a bachelor's degree can apply for most posts, but several posts ask for a specific or postgraduate qualification, and two posts add physical standards. The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) set these rules in Advertisement No. A-1/E-1/2026-27 for 67 vacancies.
This guide explains each condition in plain terms, with post-wise tables, age relaxation, nationality and domicile rules, physical standards and the common reasons applications fail. The application window closed on 29 September 2026, and a correction window runs from 7 to 16 October 2026.

Final-year students and pending results
Qualification is generally counted as on the last date of application. A candidate whose degree result is still pending on that date should read the advertisement carefully and confirm with the commission before relying on provisional status.
UKPSC Upper PCS Age Limit and Relaxation
The age limit is 21 to 42 years, counted as on 1 July 2026. You must have completed 21 years by that date, and you must not be above the upper limit. The same limit applies to all posts in this recruitment.
Age relaxation table
Category | Upper age limit | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|
General | 42 years | None |
EWS | 42 years | None |
OBC (Uttarakhand domicile) | 47 years | 5 years |
SC (Uttarakhand domicile) | 47 years | 5 years |
ST (Uttarakhand domicile) | 47 years | 5 years |
Persons with disability (Uttarakhand domicile) | 47 years, as reported | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen and other special categories | As per Government rules | As printed in the notification |
Relaxation applies only to eligible Uttarakhand domicile holders. A reserved-category candidate from another state competes as an unreserved candidate and gets no relaxation. Where a figure is marked as reported, confirm it in the advertisement before you plan around it.
How to check your own age
Take 1 July 2026 as your reference date, not today's date.
Count your completed years on that date from your date of birth in your matriculation certificate.
Add your category relaxation to 42 to find your upper limit.
If your birthday falls close to 1 July in either direction, read how the advertisement treats the boundary date.
Nationality and Uttarakhand Domicile
A candidate must meet one of these nationality conditions:
Citizen of India: This covers most candidates.
Tibetan refugee: A person who came to India before 1 January 1962 intending to settle permanently.
Person of Indian origin: Someone who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda or the United Republic of Tanzania with the intention of settling in India.
Candidates in the second and third groups must obtain an eligibility certificate from the Government of Uttarakhand before appointment.
Why domicile matters
Reservation and age relaxation are available only to candidates domiciled in Uttarakhand. A candidate from outside the state can apply, but only as an unreserved candidate, against the unreserved benchmark.
Situation | What applies |
|---|---|
Uttarakhand domicile with a valid category certificate | Category reservation and age relaxation |
Domicile of another state, any category | Unreserved category only, no relaxation |
Uttarakhand women and State Andolankari candidates | Horizontal reservation in selected posts, within category numbers |
Scheduled Tribe candidates | No ST vacancies in this advertisement, so they compete against unreserved posts |
Physical Standards for DSP and District Commandant
Only two posts carry physical and medical standards. They are Police Deputy Superintendent (DSP) and District Commandant, Home Guards. The figures below follow the advertisement as reported, so confirm them in the PDF.
Standard | Police Deputy Superintendent | District Commandant, Home Guards |
|---|---|---|
Height, male | General and OBC: 167.7 cm. ST: 160 cm. Hill area: 162.6 cm | General: 165 cm. Uttarakhand male: 160 cm |
Height, female | General and OBC: 152 cm. ST and hill area: 147 cm | 150 cm |
Chest, male | General: 78.8 to 83.8 cm. ST and hill area: 76.5 to 81.5 cm | 84 to 89 cm |
Weight, female | Minimum 45 kg | Not specified |
Eyesight | 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other, no colour blindness or squint | Medically fit |
Candidates for the DSP post should also be free from knock knees, flat foot, bow legs, varicose veins and stammering. These checks come at the later stage, but you can measure yourself now and decide whether to list these posts at the preference stage.
Other Conditions
Character and medical fitness: A candidate must be of good character and medically fit for the duties of the post.
Marital status: A male candidate with more than one living wife is not eligible. A woman married to a man who already has a living wife is also not eligible.
Language: The Mains has a General Hindi paper with a 35% minimum, so basic Hindi ability matters for every candidate.
Government employees: They must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at verification.
Attempt Limit
No fixed attempt limit is reported for this examination. You can apply again in later cycles as long as you meet the age limit and other conditions. In practice, the upper age limit is the cap, and reserved-category candidates benefit from the extra years.
Who Is Not Eligible
These are the most common reasons candidates fall out of eligibility:
Outside the age window: Below 21 or above the upper limit after relaxation on 1 July 2026.
Wrong degree for the post: For example, a general graduate applying for Audit Officer, which needs B.Com or CA.
Category claim without domicile: A reserved-category candidate who does not hold Uttarakhand domicile cannot claim reservation or relaxation.
Degree not recognised: A degree from a body not established by law or not recognised in India.
Failing physical standards: Applicable to DSP and District Commandant only.
Marital status violation: As described in the section on other conditions.
Missing documents at verification: A candidate who cannot produce originals may lose the claim.
