UPPCS Study Notes
Study notes for UPPCS Prelims and Mains, organised by the syllabus, to help you revise faster before each stage.
Good UPPCS study notes do one job: they let you revise a topic in minutes instead of rereading a book. The Uttar Pradesh PCS exam has a large General Studies syllabus, two Uttar Pradesh papers in the Mains and a monthly flow of current events, so a clear note-making system saves months of revision time.
This page shows what to put in your notes, how to organise them and how to revise them across Prelims and Mains. It also explains where notes fit alongside previous year papers and timed practice.
What to include in UPPCS notes
Area | What to note | Format that works |
|---|---|---|
History and culture | Timelines, causes and effects, key personalities, art and architecture | Dated timeline and one-page summaries |
Polity and governance | Articles, bodies, powers, amendments, schemes | Short tables and comparison charts |
Geography and environment | Maps, rivers, resources, protected areas, climate topics | Labelled maps and quick lists |
Economy | Concepts, budget terms, indicators, agriculture and industry | Definitions with one example each |
Uttar Pradesh papers | State history, polity, economy, schemes and geography | Separate state notebook with current data |
Ethics and essay | Concepts, case study approach, quotes, examples | Answer frameworks and example bank |
How to organise your notes
Short topic notes: Keep each topic to one or two pages, built from standard books and the syllabus checklist.
Monthly current-affairs notes: Write one compact file per month and tag each item to a syllabus topic.
Error log: Record every wrong answer from practice with the correct fact and the reason you missed it.
Formula and fact sheets: Keep one sheet for numeracy shortcuts in CSAT and one for dates, articles and data.
Answer-writing bank: For Mains, store strong introductions, examples and data points by paper.
Map each note to a row of the UPPCS syllabus so nothing is missed and nothing is studied twice.
A simple revision schedule
Daily: Spend 20 minutes revising yesterday's notes before starting new material.
Weekly: Revise the week's topics and review your error log once.
Monthly: Finish the current-affairs note for the month and revise the state notebook.
Before Prelims: Do two full revision rounds of short notes, along with timed papers.
Before Mains: Revise notes paper by paper and practise writing answers from them.
Reliable sources for notes
Build notes from standard textbooks, the official syllabus, government publications and the commission's own notices. For state papers, use official Uttar Pradesh government sources and the state economic survey. Confirm exam rules such as pattern, dates and eligibility on the UPPSC website, not from forwarded notes.
Where notes fit with practice
Notes are for revision, and practice is for testing. Read a topic, make a short note, then attempt questions on it and update the note with what you got wrong. Previous year papers show which topics and styles the commission prefers, so keep an eye on them while you build your notes.
