WBJEE Eligibility 2027: Age Limit, Qualification, Marks and Domicile
WBJEE eligibility depends on three things: your nationality, your Class 12 subjects and marks, and your age on a fixed reference date. On top of that, West Bengal domicile decides which seats you can claim at counselling. Many students confuse these two stages, which is why this page keeps them separate.
The rules below come from the official WBJEE 2026 Information Bulletin published by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The 2027 bulletin has not been released yet, so dates such as the age reference date will change. Treat 2026 rules as a close guide, and confirm them against the new bulletin.

|---|---|
Nationality | Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) |
Qualification | Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent, passed before 2026 or appearing in 2026 |

Upper age limit | None, except Marine Engineering (25 years on 31 December 2026) |
English | At least 30 percent for engineering and pharmacy |
Domicile | Needed for seats in government-aided colleges and reserved seats, not for taking the exam |
Attempt limit | No attempt limit is mentioned in the bulletin summary we reviewed |
Please read the bulletin section for your specific course. Architecture, pharmacy, marine and mining engineering each have extra conditions.
Nationality
You can apply if you are an Indian citizen or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). OCI candidates are considered only for unreserved all-India quota seats, and their eligibility is subject to approval. Candidates from other countries are not covered by the bulletin summary we reviewed, so contact the board if you are in that category.
Educational qualification
You must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent exam before 2026, or be appearing in 2026. Students who are appearing can take the exam, but admission is confirmed only after they meet the marks and subject conditions in the final result.
General conditions for engineering and technology
English: a pass with at least 30 percent marks in English.
Subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or other combinations the bulletin allows according to the AICTE table.
Agriculture stream: candidates from the agriculture stream need at least 45 percent in the three subjects combined (40 percent for reserved categories).
Recognised board
The qualifying board or council must be recognised by the Central or State Government. If you studied under an open school or a foreign board, check that your certificate is accepted before you pay the fee.
Course-wise marks and subject rules
Course | Main conditions (2026 bulletin) |
|---|---|
Engineering and technology | Pass in English with at least 30 percent, with the required subjects from the AICTE table |
Architecture | At least 50 percent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together, 50 percent aggregate in Class 12, and a valid NATA score |
Pharmacy | Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology as compulsory subjects, at least 45 percent in the three subjects combined (40 percent for reserved categories), and English at 30 percent |
Marine Engineering | At least 60 percent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together, and 50 percent in English; upper age limit of 25 years |
Mining Engineering | Same as engineering, but candidates must not have colour blindness or uniocularity |
Pharmacy in more detail
Individual pass: you must pass each compulsory subject separately, in theory and practical where applicable.
Pharm.D.: candidates are eligible, but detailed Pharm.D. criteria are announced separately.
Which rank: admission is on the Pharmacy Merit Rank, except at Jadavpur University, which uses the General Merit Rank and has its own percentage rules.
Paper II only: a candidate who sits only Paper II is eligible for pharmacy only, except at Jadavpur University.
Institute-specific requirements
Several universities and private institutes set higher marks than the board's minimum. In 2026 the bulletin listed institutes such as University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University, JIS University, Techno India, Adamas and Neotia, usually asking for 55 to 60 percent in aggregate or in the main subjects. Always check the institute's own line in the bulletin before choosing it at counselling.
Age limit
For 2026, the rule was that a candidate must have been born on or before 31 December 2009. That works out to a minimum age of 17 years on 31 December 2026. There was no upper age limit, with one exception: Marine Engineering has an upper limit of 25 years on 31 December 2026.
Cycle | Born on or before | Status |
|---|---|---|
WBJEE 2026 | 31 December 2009 | Official |
WBJEE 2027 | Not announced | Tentative: the reference date usually moves by one year, which would be 31 December 2010, but confirm it in the 2027 bulletin |
The bulletin sets no category-wise age relaxation for the minimum age that we could verify. If you are close to the date, do not assume. Check the exact line in the new bulletin and keep your date-of-birth proof ready.
West Bengal domicile
Domicile does not stop you from taking the exam, but it decides which seats are open to you. In the 2026 bulletin, West Bengal domicile was required for:
seats in government-aided engineering, technology and pharmacy colleges;
the B.Tech (Dairy Technology) course at WBUAFS;
90 percent of the general seats at Jadavpur University;
all reserved-category seats; and
Aliah University.
Who counts as domiciled
Residence route: you have lived in West Bengal continuously for at least 10 years as of 31 December 2025 (2026 cycle), shown with a Proforma A1 or A2 certificate.
Parent route: one of your parents is a permanent resident of West Bengal with a permanent address in the state, shown with Proforma B or two original documents such as a voter ID, Aadhaar, passport or ration card.
Certificates must come from the officials the bulletin names, not from elected representatives. The 10-year date will shift in the 2027 cycle, so recheck it.
Reservation and category certificates
Seats are reserved for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, EWS, PwD and TFW categories under West Bengal government rules. A few points deserve attention.
OBC candidates: must be non-creamy layer and show an updated NCL certificate at counselling. The bulletin notes that OBC reservation is subject to pending court matters.
Verification: certificates are checked at the allotted institute, so a wrong or expired document can cost you the seat.
Authorities: only the authorities listed in the bulletin, such as SDOs and DMs, can issue valid certificates.
Special provisions
Provision | What the 2026 bulletin says |
|---|---|
Persons with disability (PwD) | Benchmark disability of 40 percent or more. Candidates can request compensatory time (20 minutes per hour), a scribe, or both, by applying at least 60 days before the exam |
Defence quota | 13 supernumerary seats; needs a General Merit Rank and a separate application through the Rajya Sainik Board |
Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) | For West Bengal domiciled candidates with annual family income below Rs. 2.5 lakh; only tuition fees are waived |
JEE (Main) seats | Up to 10 percent of seats in self-financed engineering and technology colleges |
Who may not be eligible
Below the age rule: candidates born after the cut-off date.
Missing English pass: candidates who did not score the minimum in English.
Wrong subject combination: for example, a stream that does not include the subjects required for your course.
Unrecognised board: a qualification from a board not recognised by the Central or State Government.
Only Paper I attempted: not an application issue, but the board issues no rank to candidates who skip Paper II.
Documents to keep ready
Start collecting documents before the application opens. Typical needs, as per the bulletin framework, are:
Class 10 certificate or admit card as proof of date of birth;
Class 12 marksheet or admit card;
domicile certificate (Proforma A1, A2 or B) if applicable;
caste, EWS, non-creamy layer or disability certificate if applicable; and
photograph and signature in the size given in the bulletin.
The 2026 application fee was Rs. 500 for General male candidates and lower for other groups. The fee and the full application process are explained on our WBJEE exam guide. The pattern of the paper is covered under WBJEE exam pattern, and the topics under WBJEE syllabus.
Always confirm every rule with the board, at https://wbjeeb.nic.in/wbjee/, once the 2027 bulletin is published.
