AAI Junior Assistant Syllabus 2026: CBT Topics for Fire Service and Office

The AAI Junior Assistant syllabus is set by each regional notification of the Airports Authority of India. Every Junior Assistant CBT has two parts: Part A on subjects linked to your qualification, and Part B on General Knowledge, General Intelligence, General Aptitude and English. The CBT carries 100 marks, runs for 2 hours and has no negative marking.

AAI names the subject areas in its notifications but does not publish a full topic-wise syllabus for Junior Assistant posts. The topic lists below are built from the official notifications and from the level these notifications specify (10th standard for Part A and 12th standard for Part B in the Fire Service post). Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. No new notification has been released in 2026 so far, so this page follows the last official cycles.

Key Changes to Know

  • No question count is official: notifications give weightage (50% and 50%) and total marks, not the number of questions. Pages that state a fixed count are not quoting the notification.

  • Part A level is defined for Fire Service: the Southern Region notification SR/01/2023 describes Part A as Basic Mathematics, Basic Science and Elementary English or Grammar at 10th standard, and Part B at 12th standard.

  • HR post added in the North Eastern cycle: Advt. 01/2025/DR/NER included Junior Assistant (HR) with the same 50:50 CBT split plus an MS Office test.

  • Senior Assistant is different: Senior Assistant posts use a 70:30 split, so do not follow a Senior Assistant syllabus for a Junior Assistant post.

Part A Syllabus: Junior Assistant (Fire Service)

Section

Topics to cover

Start with

Basic Mathematics

Number system, LCM and HCF, fractions and decimals, percentage, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time and distance, area and volume of basic shapes

Percentage, ratio and averages

Basic Science

Force and motion, work and energy, heat and temperature, light and sound, electricity basics, matter and its states, acids, bases and salts, combustion and flame, metals and non-metals, human body and health

Heat, combustion and electricity

Elementary English and Grammar

Parts of speech, tenses, articles and prepositions, subject-verb agreement, synonyms and antonyms, sentence correction, fill in the blanks

Tenses and error spotting

Basic Science topics such as combustion, heat and simple machines connect directly to fire service work and are a sensible place to start. Mathematics at 10th level is scoring if you practise speed, and Part A marks also break ties between candidates with equal totals.

Part A Syllabus: Junior Assistant (Office) and (HR)

For graduate-level posts, the notifications say Part A covers subjects related to the educational qualification for the post, without a topic list. Based on the nature of the role, a working list is:

  • Office procedure basics: noting and drafting, filing and record keeping, official correspondence formats.

  • Computer awareness: MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint functions, email, internet and basic hardware terms.

  • HR basics (for the HR post): recruitment, training, attendance and leave, and the basic terms of personnel management.

  • Graduate-level aptitude and English: arithmetic, comprehension and formal writing.

This list is indicative. Check the notification for your cycle in case AAI adds a specific syllabus.

Part B Syllabus: Common to All Junior Assistant Posts

General Knowledge

  • Static GK: Indian history, geography, polity and economy, important days, books and authors, awards.

  • Current affairs: national and international news of the last 6 to 12 months, sports and government schemes.

  • Aviation awareness: AAI's role, major airports, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and basic aviation terms.

General Intelligence

  • Verbal reasoning: analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking.

  • Non-verbal reasoning: mirror and water images, figure series, paper folding, embedded figures.

  • Logical reasoning: statements and conclusions, syllogism, Venn diagrams.

General Aptitude

  • Arithmetic: percentage, ratio, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance.

  • Data interpretation: simple tables, bar and pie charts.

English

  • Grammar: error detection, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks.

  • Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases.

  • Reading: short comprehension passages, para jumbles.

Second Stage: Is There a Syllabus?

The Fire Service second stage has no written syllabus. It checks documents, physical measurements and medical fitness, followed by a driving test on a light motor vehicle and a PET with five events. Preparation here is physical training and driving practice.

For Office, HR and similar posts, the computer literacy test is in MS Office. A syllabus AAI Northern Region published for its 2025 computer literacy test (for Senior Assistant posts) listed MS Word (formatting, tables, mail merge), MS Excel (formulas, lookup functions, charts, pivot tables) and MS PowerPoint (slides, charts, transitions). It is a useful guide, though your notification may differ.

How to Cover the AAI Junior Assistant Syllabus

  1. Weeks 1 to 4: Part A concepts. Finish 10th-level mathematics and science (or office and computer basics for Office and HR) with short daily practice.

  2. Weeks 3 to 8: add 30 to 40 minutes of GK and current affairs a day, with monthly notes.

  3. Weeks 5 to 8: reasoning and English through topic tests and 20-minute sectional tests.

  4. Weeks 9 to 12: full-length 2-hour mocks, same-day analysis and error-log revision.

  5. Throughout: PET training (Fire Service) or MS Office practice (Office and HR).

The official notifications are on the AAI recruitment page.
