Allahabad High Court Group C Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Topics and Skill Tests
The Allahabad High Court Group C syllabus covers four subjects in the Stage I written test (Hindi, English, General Studies and Mathematics), followed by a computer typing test for clerical posts, a typing and stenography test for Stenographer Grade-III, and a driving test for Driver Grade-IV. The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad conducts this recruitment for District Courts across Uttar Pradesh under the Uttar Pradesh Civil Court Staff Centralized Recruitment.
One point matters before you start. The official 2024-25 advertisements name the subjects and describe the skill tests in detail, but they do not publish a topic-wise syllabus for the written test. The topic lists on this page are built from the qualification level stated in the advertisements and from questions asked in previous papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. The skill test rules, on the other hand, come straight from the advertisements.

Key Points to Know Before You Start
No official topic list: The advertisements say the written test covers Hindi, English, General Studies and Mathematics, but they do not split questions by subject. Pages that show a fixed 25-25-25-25 split are presenting an assumption, so plan for balanced preparation instead.
Level of questions: Clerical posts need Intermediate and Stenographer posts need Graduation, but all posts sat a written test of the same structure. Expect questions mostly around Class 10 to Class 12 level.
Hindi typing is Inscript only: The Hindi typing test uses the Inscript keyboard with Mangal font. If you learned Hindi typing on Remington or Krutidev, you need to switch early.
The skill test decides your rank: For clerical and Stenographer posts, typing and stenography marks are added to the written marks. Treat the skill syllabus as part of the main syllabus, not as an afterthought.
Older pages may show different rules: Some sites still show patterns from earlier cycles. Follow the latest official advertisement when it is released.
Stage I Syllabus: Subject-Wise Topics
The written test has the same structure for all Group C posts. Questions come from four subjects, and with no negative marking, every topic you can attempt with confidence adds to your score.
Subject | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Hindi | Grammar, vocabulary, idioms, sentence correction, comprehension | Sandhi, samas, paryayvachi and vilom shabd |
English | Grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension | Error spotting, synonyms and antonyms |
General Studies | Current affairs, static GK, polity, history, geography, science, economy, Uttar Pradesh GK | Current affairs of the last 8 to 10 months, Indian polity |
Mathematics | Arithmetic, number system, mensuration, data interpretation | Percentage, ratio, average |
Hindi
Shabd rachna: Sandhi and sandhi-vichchhed, samas and samas-vigrah, upsarg and pratyay.
Shabd bhandar: Paryayvachi, vilom, anekarthi shabd, shrutisam-bhinnarthak shabd, tatsam-tadbhav, vakyansh ke liye ek shabd.
Vyakaran: Sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya, ling, vachan, karak, kaal and vachya (kartri, karm, bhav).
Shuddhi: Shabd shuddhi and vakya shuddhi, common spelling errors.
Muhavare and lokoktiyan: Meaning and correct usage.
Office Hindi: Paribhashik shabdavali (English administrative terms and their Hindi equivalents) and basic letter formats.
Hindi is usually the most scoring subject for students from Uttar Pradesh, but careless errors in sandhi and samas are common. Learn the rules with examples instead of memorising lists.
English
Grammar: Parts of speech, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, conjunctions, modals.
Error detection and sentence improvement: Spotting grammatical mistakes and choosing the correct form.
Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, spellings.
Sentence transformation: Active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech.
Fill in the blanks and cloze test: Word usage in context.
Reading comprehension: Short passages with direct and vocabulary-based questions.
General Studies

Uttar Pradesh GK | History, geography, culture, districts, rivers, important projects and schemes of the state |

Since you will work in a court, basic knowledge of the Indian judicial system is useful: the hierarchy of courts, the role of the High Court and the important constitutional articles on the judiciary.
Mathematics
Number system: Whole numbers, decimals and fractions, HCF and LCM, simplification, square roots.
Arithmetic: Percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest.
Time-based problems: Time and work, pipes and cisterns, time, speed and distance.
Mensuration: Area and perimeter of plane figures, surface area and volume of common solids.
Data interpretation: Tables, bar graphs and pie charts.
Basic algebra and age problems: Simple equations and word problems.
Mathematics questions at this level reward speed. Learn short methods for percentage and ratio, because they appear inside profit and loss, interest and data interpretation questions too.
Stage II Skill Test Syllabus
The skill test rules below are taken from the 2024-25 detailed advertisements. They are the most precise part of the Group C syllabus, and they can change in a new cycle.

Omitted words and spelling errors are full mistakes, while paragraphing and punctuation errors count as half mistakes. The typing test and the stenography test were held on the same day in the last cycle.
Technical Driving Test (Driver Grade-IV)
Test A, signage test: Road signs, traffic signals and road safety rules.
Test B, driving test: Practical driving of a four-wheeler. The authority may fix minimum marks for any part.
Knowledge of motor mechanism is a preference for Driver posts, so a basic understanding of vehicle maintenance can help.
Post-Wise Syllabus Comparison
Area | Junior Assistant and Paid Apprentice | Stenographer Grade-III | Driver Grade-IV |
|---|---|---|---|
Written test (4 subjects) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Hindi and English typing | Yes, counts in merit | Yes, counts in merit | No |
Shorthand dictation | No | Yes, counts in merit | No |
Driving and signage | No | No | Yes, must clear it |
How to plan | Split time between written preparation and daily typing | Daily dictation plus typing plus written preparation | Focus on the written test; revise road signs |
Topic Priority: Where to Spend Your Time
Since the advertisement does not give subject weightage, prioritise by two things: how often a topic appears in previous papers, and how quickly you can master it. The table below is a practical guide, not an official ranking.
Priority | Topics | Why |
|---|---|---|
High | Hindi grammar (sandhi, samas, vilom, muhavare), English error spotting and vocabulary, percentage, ratio, average, current affairs | Asked often and quick to improve with practice |
Medium | Polity and judiciary, Uttar Pradesh GK, profit and loss, interest, time and work, voice and narration | Regular presence; needs steady revision |
Lower | Detailed world geography, advanced mensuration, long comprehension passages | Fewer questions or slower to solve; cover basics only |
Typing sits outside this table because it is not a topic but a daily habit. For clerical and Stenographer posts, give it at least 30 minutes every day from the first week.
How to Cover the Syllabus
A 16 to 20 week plan works for most students who start before the notification. Adjust it to your strengths, and keep typing practice running through every phase.
Weeks 1 to 6, foundation: Hindi and English grammar rules, arithmetic basics and Indian polity. Start typing for 20 to 30 minutes a day, focusing on accuracy rather than speed.
Week 3 onward, current affairs: 30 to 40 minutes a day, with monthly short notes. Add Uttar Pradesh GK once a week.
Weeks 7 to 12, topic tests: Take topic-wise tests in each subject and keep an error log. Raise typing speed gradually until you comfortably cross the required net speed.
Weeks 13 to 16, full mocks: Attempt full-length tests of 100 questions in 90 minutes on an OMR sheet. Analyse each test the same day.
Final phase, revision: Revise from your error log and short notes. Take one typing test a day in each language under exam timing.
Topic-wise practice is where the syllabus becomes real. You can take Allahabad High Court Group C online tests on Testkart to check each subject separately and use the analysis to find which topics cost you the most marks. Keeping concise Allahabad High Court Group C study notes for Hindi grammar, formulas and UP GK on Testkart makes the last month of revision faster.
Common Mistakes While Covering the Syllabus
Treating Hindi as easy: Many students skip Hindi preparation because it is their first language, then lose marks on sandhi, samas and spelling rules. Revise the rules properly.
Reading GK without revising: General Studies is wide. Without short notes and weekly revision, most of what you read is forgotten by exam day.
Leaving typing for later: Building typing speed takes weeks. Waiting for the Stage I result leaves too little time to reach a safe speed with few mistakes.
Practising Hindi typing on the wrong layout: Practice on Remington or a phonetic tool does not transfer to Inscript. Use the exam layout from day one.
Skipping full-length practice: Knowing topics is not enough. You must also finish 100 questions in 90 minutes and fill an OMR sheet without errors.
