Allahabad High Court RO Eligibility 2026: Age and Qualification

The Allahabad High Court RO eligibility criteria for 2026 combine a graduation degree with a computer qualification and English typing skill, along with an age limit of 21 to 35 years. These conditions come from the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad's detailed advertisement dated 01 June 2026, which notified 138 Review Officer posts alongside Assistant Review Officer and Computer Assistant posts.

Two dates matter most. Your age is counted as on 01 July 2026, and you must have held every essential qualification by 21 June 2026, the closing date of the online application. This page explains each condition, the age relaxations available to Uttar Pradesh candidates, the domicile rule for reservation and the most common reasons candidates are found ineligible.

Educational Qualification

Candidates need a bachelor's degree from a university established by law in India, or a qualification recognised by the Government as equivalent. The advertisement does not ask for a particular stream or a minimum percentage, so a graduate in arts, science, commerce, engineering or any other discipline can apply.

  • Deadline: The degree must be held on the closing date of the online application, 21 June 2026.

  • Final-year students: The advertisement requires the qualification on the closing date, so a candidate whose result was not declared by then does not meet the condition.

  • No percentage cut-off: A pass in the degree is enough; there is no minimum aggregate mentioned.

  • Equivalence: If your degree is from a foreign or unusual institution, keep the equivalence certificate ready for verification.

Computer Qualification and Typing Requirement

This is where most eligibility doubts arise. You need one of the following computer qualifications in addition to your degree.

Accepted computer qualification

Issued by

Diploma or degree in computer science

A recognised institution

'O' Level certificate

NIELIT (formerly DOEACC Society)

CCC (Course on Computer Concepts) certificate in computer science

A recognised institute

  • Same deadline: The certificate must be in hand by 21 June 2026, not just the course enrolment.

  • Working skills: The advertisement also asks for knowledge of data entry, word processing and computer operation.

  • Typing speed: A minimum of 25 words per minute in English typing on a computer is an essential qualification, and it is tested in Stage-III of the exam.

Preferential Qualification

Other things being equal, preference is given to candidates who have served at least two years in the Territorial Army or who hold an NCC 'B' certificate.

Age Limit and Age Relaxation

The age limit for the Review Officer post is 21 to 35 years as on 01 July 2026. In practical terms, you must be born on or after 02 July 1991 and on or before 01 July 2005.

  • Only one relaxation: If you fall in more than one category, you get the single relaxation that benefits you most. Relaxations are not added together.

  • No EWS relaxation: The advertisement does not give any age relaxation to EWS candidates.

  • UP only: Relaxations apply to the Uttar Pradesh categories notified by the State Government.

The maximum ages in the table are worked out from the 35-year limit for clarity. Always check your exact date of birth against 01 July 2026.

Ex-Servicemen Relaxation Explained

For ex-servicemen, the relaxation is calculated differently. You deduct the period of military service in the Army, Navy or Air Force from your actual age, and the result must not exceed the upper age limit by more than 3 years. For example, a candidate aged 42 on 01 July 2026 with 5 years of military service would count as 37 after the deduction, which is within 35 plus 3 years. This is an illustration; the advertisement asks ex-servicemen to produce a certificate showing enrolment and discharge dates with an undertaking.

Worked Age Examples

The examples below use the official reference date of 01 July 2026. They are illustrations to help you read the rule, not individual rulings.

F

  • Citizen of India: Eligible.

  • Tibetan refugee: Eligible if they came to India before 01 January 1972 to settle permanently, with an eligibility certificate from the State Government.

Domicile and Reservation

Candidates from any state can apply. However, reservation benefits (SC, ST, OBC, EWS and the horizontal categories) are given only to Uttar Pradesh domiciles. A candidate who cannot produce a UP domicile certificate is treated as Unreserved.

For women candidates, only a caste or domicile certificate issued from the father's side is accepted. The advertisement also notes that the 20% women's reservation is subject to the final decision in a pending special appeal before the High Court.

Rules for Persons with Disabilities

  • Minimum disability: At least 40% of the relevant disability, supported by a valid certificate.

  • Covered disabilities: Locomotor disability (one arm, one leg or both legs, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims), low vision and hard of hearing, with the remaining share on rotation.

  • No scribe or extra time: The advertisement states there is no provision for a scribe or compensatory time. Visually impaired candidates may bring their own magnifying glass, and no Braille material is provided.

  • No exemption from stages: PwBD candidates must qualify in all three stages like everyone else.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Late qualifications: Degree or computer certificate obtained after 21 June 2026.

  • Age outside the window: Born before 02 July 1991 or after 01 July 2005, after any applicable relaxation.

  • Under 21: Candidates below 21 on 01 July 2026 are considered only for the Computer Assistant post, not for Review Officer.

  • Unsupported category claims: Candidates who cannot produce valid category, domicile or disability certificates lose the related benefit.

  • Multiple applications: Only the last submitted application is considered.

  • Character or fitness issues: Candidates must meet the character requirement and produce a medical fitness certificate from the Chief Medical Officer before appointment.

RO vs ARO vs Computer Assistant Eligibility

Under-21 candidates can still appear in the common exam, but only for the Computer Assistant post. Because one application covers all three posts, a candidate who meets the RO conditions is automatically in the running for ARO and Computer Assistant as well, subject to the rule that an RO selectee is not considered for the lower posts.
