AP EAPCET Eligibility Criteria 2027: Age, Marks and Local Status
AP EAPCET eligibility criteria decide whether you can sit the test and, later, whether your rank can be used for admission. AP EAPCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test, earlier AP EAMCET) is conducted by JNTU Kakinada on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for first-year admission to engineering, agriculture, veterinary, fisheries, pharmacy and allied courses in Andhra Pradesh.
This page covers nationality, local and non-local status, the qualifying exam and subjects, the minimum marks rule, course-wise age limits, and the most common reasons candidates turn out to be ineligible. All rules below are from the official AP EAPCET 2026 instruction booklets and the reservation order listed on the official portal. They are the latest available; recheck them against the 2027 notification when it is released.

AP EAPCET Eligibility at a Glance
Criterion | Requirement (as per AP EAPCET 2026 booklets) |
|---|---|
Nationality | Indian national, or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holder |
State requirement | Must belong to Andhra Pradesh and satisfy local or non-local status rules issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh |
Qualifying exam (Engineering stream) | Intermediate (10+2) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or a Diploma in Engineering |
Qualifying exam (Agriculture and Pharmacy stream) | Intermediate (10+2) with the subjects prescribed for each course, usually Biology, Physics and Chemistry |
Minimum marks in qualifying exam | 45% in the specified subjects taken together (40% for reserved category candidates) |
Appearing candidates | Can apply; the rank is valid only if they pass the qualifying exam |
Age limit | Varies by course; see the age table below |
Number of attempts | No limit stated in the booklet; the rank is valid only for the academic year of that test |
Nationality and State Requirements
Candidates must be Indian nationals, or PIO or OCI card holders. The booklets also require candidates to belong to the State of Andhra Pradesh and to meet local or non-local status rules issued by the state government for that academic year.
For PIO and OCI candidates, the weightage given to qualifying exam marks in the ranking formula is decided separately by a committee set up by the competent authority. If you fall in this group, keep your school records and equivalence documents ready and check the latest instructions before applying.
Educational Qualification for the Engineering Stream
The Engineering (E) stream test is used for B.E. and B.Tech courses, B.Pharmacy and Pharm.D through the MPC route, and B.Tech in Dairy Technology, Agricultural Engineering and Food Science and Technology. You can qualify through one of two routes.
Route | Requirement | Appearing candidates |
|---|---|---|
Intermediate (10+2) | Passed Intermediate with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects, or related vocational courses in Engineering and Technology (with the prescribed bridge course), from the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh, or an examination recognised as equivalent by it | Can apply; rank valid only after passing Intermediate |
Diploma | Passed the Diploma examination in Engineering conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Andhra Pradesh, or an equivalent recognised by it | Can apply; rank valid only after passing the Diploma |
"Recognised as equivalent" usually covers CBSE, CISCE and other state boards, provided you studied Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the 10+2 level. If your board is unusual, check equivalence with the Board of Intermediate Education before you apply rather than at counselling.
For Pharm.D through the MPC route, the booklet specifies Intermediate with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Educational Qualification for the Agriculture and Pharmacy Stream
The Agriculture and Pharmacy (AP) stream test is used for B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Sc. (Horticulture), B.V.Sc. and A.H., B.F.Sc., B.Tech (Food Science and Technology), B.Sc. (CA and BM), B.Pharm, B.Tech (Bio-Technology) and Pharm.D. Each course accepts a slightly different subject combination.
Course | Intermediate subjects accepted (any two of the listed groups, unless stated) |
|---|---|
B.Sc. (Agriculture) and B.Sc. (Horticulture) | Physical Science, Biological or Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Vocational Course in Agriculture |
B.V.Sc. and A.H. | Physical Sciences, Biological or Natural Sciences, Vocational Courses in Veterinary Sciences |
B.F.Sc. | Physical Sciences, Biological or Natural Sciences, Vocational Courses in Fishery Sciences |
B.Tech (Food Science and Technology) | Mathematics and Physical Sciences, or Physical Sciences and Biological or Natural Sciences |
B.Pharm | Intermediate with Biology, Physics and Chemistry |
B.Tech (Bio-Technology) | Intermediate with Biology, Physics and Chemistry |
Pharm.D | Intermediate with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, or a pass (or final-year appearance) in the Diploma in Pharmacy from the AP State Board of Technical Education and Training or an equivalent |
One rule surprises many students: whatever subjects you studied in Intermediate, admission to these courses through the AP stream requires you to write the Biology, Physics and Chemistry test. A student with Mathematics who wants B.Tech (Food Science and Technology) through this stream still sits the BiPC paper.
Minimum Marks in the Qualifying Examination
Candidates need at least 45% marks in the specified subjects taken together in the qualifying examination. For candidates of the reserved category, the requirement is 40%.
Subjects, not aggregate: The percentage is calculated on the specified subjects together (for example, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), not on your overall Intermediate total including languages.
Checked at admission: Appearing candidates can still sit the test, but the marks rule and your pass status are verified at counselling. A good EAPCET rank cannot make up for falling short here.
Board marks also count in the rank: Your group-subject marks carry 25% weightage in the final rank, so the qualifying exam matters beyond this minimum.
AP EAPCET Age Limit by Course
There is no single AP EAPCET age limit. The booklets set age rules only for certain courses, and the reference date is usually 31 December of the year of admission.
Course | Minimum age | Upper age limit |
|---|---|---|
B.E. and B.Tech (general engineering branches) | Not prescribed in the 2026 booklet | Not prescribed in the 2026 booklet |
B.Tech (Dairy Technology), B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering), B.Tech (Food Science and Technology), B.Sc. (Agricultural Engineering) | 17 years as on 31 December 2026 | 22 years (25 years for SC and ST) as on 31 December 2026 |
B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Sc. (Horticulture), B.V.Sc. and A.H., B.F.Sc. (AP stream) | 17 years as on 31 December 2026 | 22 years (25 years for SC and ST) as on 31 December 2026 |
B.Pharm (BiPC route) | 16 years by the date admission begins | No upper age limit |
Pharm.D | 17 years as on 31 December 2026 | 35 years (relaxed by 3 years for SC, ST and BC, and by 5 years for candidates with disabilities), as stated in the Agriculture and Pharmacy booklet |
If you are close to an upper limit, calculate your age on the exact reference date before paying the fee. The age rule for the 2027 cycle will move to 31 December 2027 if the same wording is repeated.
Local and Non-Local Status
Local status decides which seats you can compete for. The order listed on the AP EAPCET 2026 portal is G.O.Ms.No.20, dated 12 May 2025, issued after the ten-year common admission period that followed bifurcation ended in June 2024.
How seats are divided
Under this order, 85% of seats in each course are reserved for local candidates of Andhra Pradesh. The remaining 15% are unreserved and are filled from eligible local and non-local candidates.
Local area | Erstwhile districts covered |
|---|---|
Andhra University (AU) area | Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam |
Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) area | Anantapur, Kurnool, Chittoor, Cuddapah and Nellore |
Who counts as a local candidate
Four-year study rule: You studied in that local area for at least four consecutive academic years ending with the year you first appeared for the qualifying exam.
Four-year residence rule: If you did not study during part of that period, you resided in that local area for at least four years before the qualifying exam began.
Seven-year state rule: If neither applies, you studied (or resided) in Andhra Pradesh for seven consecutive years. You are then treated as local to the area where you spent the longest time, or the area where you studied last if the periods are equal.
Who can compete for the 15% unreserved seats
Candidates eligible to be local in both AU and SVU areas.
Candidates who have resided in the state for a total of 10 years (excluding study outside the state), or whose parent has resided in the state for 10 years (excluding employment outside the state).
Children of parents employed by the state or central government, public sector corporations, local bodies, universities and similar bodies within the state.
Spouses of those employed by such bodies within the state.
Keep study certificates for the relevant years ready, because local status is verified at counselling through the residence and study proformas in the booklet.
Can Students from Telangana or Other States Apply?
The booklets allow candidates to write the test, and the 2026 toppers list included students from Telangana. However, admission is a separate question. Under the current order, a candidate who is not a local of Andhra Pradesh can only compete for the 15% unreserved seats, and only if they fall into one of the categories listed above.
Many older pages still describe the pre-2024 arrangement under which Telangana students were broadly treated as non-locals for those seats. That arrangement has changed, so check the current reservation order on the official portal before deciding to apply.
Who Is Not Eligible
Wrong subject combination: An Engineering stream applicant without Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or a qualifying Engineering Diploma).
Below the marks rule: Less than 45% (40% for reserved category) in the specified subjects together.
Failed the qualifying exam: Appearing candidates who do not pass lose the validity of their rank.
Outside the age band: Applicants for agriculture-type courses or Pharm.D who are over the upper limit on the reference date.
No local or unreserved claim: Candidates who meet neither the local rules nor any unreserved-seat category cannot be allotted a seat.
Application errors: The convener can reject incomplete applications, applications with false information, late applications, or multiple applications for the same category.
Application Fee and Documents to Keep Ready

Eligibility, Qualifying Marks and Admission: How They Connect
Three different checks apply at three different stages, and students often mix them up:
Eligibility to apply: Nationality, state, subjects and course-specific age rules, checked against what you declare in the application.
Qualifying marks to get a rank: At least 25% of the maximum marks (40 out of 160) in AP EAPCET, with no minimum for SC and ST candidates. See the AP EAPCET cut-off guide for how qualifying marks differ from closing ranks.
Eligibility for admission: Pass in the qualifying exam with the required percentage, valid local or unreserved status, and category certificates, all verified at counselling. Rank alone does not confer a right to admission.
For the final word on any rule, refer to the instruction booklets on the official AP EAPCET portal and the local and non-local reservation order.
