Bank of Baroda PO Exam Pattern 2026: Stages, Marks, Time

The Bank of Baroda PO exam pattern has three steps: an online Prelims, an online Mains with an objective and a descriptive test, and a Personality Test followed by an Interview. In the latest cycle, Bank of Baroda recruits Probationary Officers through the IBPS PO/MT process, so the pattern follows IBPS and not the older bank-run Manipal route.

This page gives the stage-wise tables, the marking scheme and the final merit calculation. It also explains what the numbers mean for your time and effort. Secondary sources report a revised marks and question split for this cycle, so check every table against the official notification on the IBPS website.

Each section has its own time limit, so you cannot carry spare minutes from one section to another. The Prelims is qualifying, and you must clear the sectional cut-offs as well as the overall cut-off to move to the Mains.

Earlier IBPS cycles gave one mark per question in the Prelims. The marks split shown above is reported by two secondary sources for this cycle and should be confirmed in the notification.

The objective and descriptive tests together carry 225 marks. The descriptive paper is typed on the computer and is evaluated only for candidates who reach the minimum marks in the objective test. The objective papers are available in English and Hindi, except the English Language test.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

Each wrong answer in the objective tests carries a penalty of one fourth of the marks assigned to that question. Unattempted questions carry no penalty. The descriptive test has no negative marking.

Using the reported Mains marks, the average value of one question differs a lot by section:

Marks per question (approx.)

Penalty for a wrong answer (approx.)

What the Pattern Means for You

  • Reasoning and Data Analysis carry the most marks: Together they hold 120 of the 200 objective marks, so they deserve the largest share of your practice time.

  • English is low value per question: It has 40 questions for 20 marks, so use it for quick, accurate attempts and do not let it eat into other sections.

  • Banking Awareness is a short, high-return section: It has 50 questions in 35 minutes, and the answers are known or not, so a steady daily reading habit pays off.

  • Wrong guesses cost real marks: A wrong answer in Reasoning or Data Analysis removes roughly a quarter of what a right one gains. Guess only when you can drop two options.

  • Sectional cut-offs can end a good attempt: A weak section can stop you even if your total score is high, so no section should be left untouched.

Personality Test and Interview

Candidates who clear the Mains are called for a Personality Test and an Interview. The Personality Test is reported as non-qualifying but mandatory before the Interview. The Interview is scored out of 100 marks, with a reported minimum qualifying mark of 40 percent for General candidates and 35 percent for reserved categories. The earlier Manipal route also used a group discussion, which is not mentioned for the IBPS route in the sources we checked.

Final Merit Calculation

Final merit is reported to combine the Mains and the Interview in the ratio 80 to 20. The Prelims does not add to merit. Banks are allotted from the final merit list according to preference and vacancies.

Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy

  1. Prelims: Spend the first two minutes of each section picking easy questions. Leave long puzzles for the last part of the 20 minutes.

  2. Mains Reasoning and Data Analysis: Solve one full set before you open the next. Skip a set that needs more than 8 to 10 minutes.

  3. Banking Awareness: Go quickly, since you either know a fact or you do not.

  4. Descriptive paper: Plan five minutes, write for twenty and review for five. Keep a structure of introduction, points and conclusion.

Always cross-check the final pattern on the official IBPS website.
