Bank of India PO Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification
Bank of India PO eligibility is set by the IBPS notification for the Common Recruitment Process (CRP PO/MT-XVI), because Bank of India recruits Probationary Officers through it. In the 2026 cycle, you needed a graduation degree in any discipline and had to be 20 to 30 years old on 1 July 2026, with relaxation for reserved categories.
This page explains the qualification rule, the date-of-birth window, the age relaxation table, nationality and other conditions, and the common reasons applications fail. The rules are taken from summaries of the 2026 notification and should be checked against the official notification before you rely on a borderline case. Registration for the 2026 cycle has closed, so use this page to plan for the next cycle as well.

Bank of India PO educational qualification
You need a graduation degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India or an equivalent recognised qualification. Arts, science, commerce, engineering, law and other streams are all accepted. The IBPS PO process does not set a minimum percentage.
Timing is the point where applicants slip. The degree result must be declared on or before the cut-off date in the notification, which is reported as 21 July 2026 for this cycle. A final-year student whose result had not been declared by that date could not apply. Keep your degree certificate or mark sheet ready, because it is checked at the document stage.
If your university gives CGPA, check whether the notification asks for a percentage conversion, and use your university's own formula. Do not round up a percentage, because rounding rules in recruitment notices are usually strict.
Bank of India PO age limit and relaxation
The age limit is counted as on 1 July 2026. The minimum is 20 years and the maximum is 30 years for the General category, which gives a date-of-birth window from 2 July 1996 to 1 July 2006, both days included.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC and ST | 5 years |
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 10 years |
Ex-servicemen, including commissioned officers | 5 years, subject to the service conditions in the notification |
Persons affected by the 1984 riots | 5 years |
Relaxations are normally not added together beyond what the notification allows, so a candidate who fits two categories should read the combination rules. An OBC certificate must be in the non-creamy layer format and valid on the date given in the notification.
Older pages may still show an age band of 21 to 29 years. That comes from the earlier recruitment in which Bank of India selected candidates for a banking diploma route, and it does not apply to the current IBPS process.
Nationality and other conditions
Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, certain Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962, and certain persons of Indian origin may also apply, but they need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.
Contact details: You need a valid personal email ID and mobile number that stay active throughout the process, because call letters and updates are sent there.
Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disability claims need certificates in the prescribed format. The EWS certificate needs the income and asset details listed in the notification.
Medical fitness: Selection is subject to the medical standards set by the bank.
Attempts: The notification sets no limit on the number of attempts, so you can apply again in later cycles as long as you meet the age rule.
Who is not eligible
Outside the age window: Even a few days beyond the upper limit, after relaxation, makes an application invalid.
Degree result not declared in time: A pending result on the cut-off date is a disqualifier.
No valid category proof: Without the right certificate you are treated as General and lose any relaxation.
Incorrect details: Wrong date of birth, a mismatch between application and documents, or a wrongly sized upload can lead to rejection.
Not meeting the nationality condition: Candidates in the special categories above who lack the Government of India certificate are not eligible.
Fee and documents
The application fee was Rs. 850 for General and other categories and Rs. 175 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, inclusive of GST. It is not refundable. Keep your photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration ready in the sizes and formats given in the notification.
