BHU Nursing Study Material
The BHU Nursing entrance exam is the route into the B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing programme at the College of Nursing, Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Many students search for it as a separate paper, but the way seats are filled has changed over the years, so it helps to know exactly what you are preparing for before you buy books or tests.
This guide explains how BHU Nursing admission works in the 2026 cycle, what the NEET (UG) paper looks like, who can apply, how selection is done and how to plan your preparation. Where a detail could not be confirmed from an official BHU notice, it is marked tentative, and you are told where to check. Always follow the latest notice on the BHU admission portal.

How BHU Nursing Admission Works
An old official BHU notice for the College of Nursing described a separate BHU entrance test held in Varanasi. That notice is from 2010 and is not a guide to the present process. In recent cycles, education portals report that B.Sc Nursing seats at BHU are filled using NEET (UG) scores, followed by counselling.
The NEET (UG) 2026 information bulletin from NTA supports the general picture. It states that NEET (UG) scores will be used for B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing admissions, subject to the eligibility rules of each institution. It does not name BHU, so BHU's own notice remains the final word.
One more point is worth knowing. The BHU undergraduate information bulletin for 2026 says most undergraduate programmes are filled through CUET-UG and the CAP-UG allotment process. We did not find B.Sc Nursing in the portion of that bulletin we could read. Treat CUET-UG as not required for nursing unless BHU says otherwise.
What this means for you
Prepare for NEET (UG): The paper is the same one medical aspirants take, so your preparation is Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Classes 11 and 12.
Watch the official portal: Registration, seat matrix and counselling rounds for BHU are announced as notices, not in a single fixed calendar.
Do not rely on old pages: Pages that describe a BHU-conducted nursing test, or quote fees and cut-offs from earlier years, may be out of date.
Important Dates for the 2026 Cycle
The dates below relate to NEET (UG) 2026, the paper whose score is used for nursing admission. BHU's own counselling dates are not listed here because they were not confirmed in an official BHU notice at the time of writing.
Event | Date |
|---|---|
NEET (UG) 2026 application window | 8 February 2026 to 8 March 2026 |
Correction window | 10 March 2026 to 12 March 2026 |
NEET (UG) 2026 exam | 3 May 2026 (afternoon shift) |
Re-examination, as shown on the NEET website | 21 June 2026 |
BHU Nursing registration and counselling | To be announced by the authorities (tentative) |
Tentative dates come from notices and can change. Track the official BHU admission page and your registered email, and keep your NEET scorecard ready.
Eligibility Summary
The exact BHU criteria are published in the programme notice for each session. The points below combine the NEET (UG) rules, which are official, with the BHU criteria reported by education portals and an earlier BHU notice, which are tentative.
Qualification: Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
Marks: Reported minimum is 50 percent aggregate for General candidates and 40 percent for reserved categories. Check the current notice.
Age: NEET (UG) requires candidates to complete 17 years by 31 December of the exam year, with no upper age limit in NEET. An earlier BHU notice set 25 years as the upper limit for nursing, so confirm whether it still applies.
Nationality: Indian nationals are the usual applicants. Other categories follow the notice.
Exam Pattern
If admission is based on NEET (UG), you will write the NEET paper. The 2026 bulletin describes it as a single-day, single-shift paper in pen and paper mode.
Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Physics | 45 | 180 |
Chemistry | 45 | 180 |
Biology (Botany and Zoology) | 90 | 360 |
Total | 180 | 720 |
The duration is 180 minutes. Each question carries 4 marks for a correct answer, minus 1 for a wrong answer, and nothing for a question left blank. The paper is offered in 13 languages. Older pages may still show a different duration or a section structure, so follow the official bulletin. Read the full BHU Nursing exam pattern page for marking rules and time management.
Syllabus Summary
The syllabus is the NEET (UG) syllabus notified by the National Medical Commission and published by NTA. It covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology of Classes 11 and 12, with Biology carrying half the marks.
Subject | Important areas |
|---|---|
Physics | Mechanics, thermodynamics, electrostatics, current electricity, optics, modern physics |
Chemistry | Mole concept, chemical bonding, equilibrium, organic chemistry, coordination compounds |
Biology | Human physiology, genetics, cell biology, plant physiology, ecology, reproduction |
The topic lists are a working checklist built from the official syllabus, not a replacement for it.
Selection Process and Counselling
Selection for seats generally follows this order, subject to the notice for the session:
Qualify in NEET (UG): You need to reach the qualifying percentile set for your category.
Register for counselling: Registration and choice filling happen on the portal named in the official notice, whether BHU or a central counselling authority.
Merit and seat allotment: Seats are allotted by rank, category and reservation policy.
Reporting and verification: Selected candidates report with original documents, pay the fee and complete admission formalities.
Because the counselling authority can change between cycles, confirm it on the official BHU admission page before you begin registration.
Application Steps and Documents
The BHU step-by-step process is published with each admission notice, and fees and dates differ by session. The sequence below shows what candidates usually do, so you can prepare in advance.
Apply for NEET (UG): Register on the NTA portal in the application window, pay the NEET examination fee and upload photographs and signature as specified.
Write the exam and download the scorecard: Keep several copies of the scorecard and the application number.
Watch for the BHU or counselling notice: The registration link and last date are given there, along with the programme fee. We have not listed a BHU fee because no verified figure was available.
Fill choices and pay the seat fee: Do this only on the official portal named in the notice.
Report for verification: Carry originals and photocopies of every document.
Document | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
NEET (UG) scorecard and admit card | Proof of rank and identity for counselling |
Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets | Age and subject-wise marks check |
Category or EWS certificate, if applicable | Reservation benefit, usually in the format named in the notice |
Disability certificate, if applicable | PwBD reservation and medical assessment |
Photo ID and passport size photographs | Identity verification at reporting |
Typical reasons for rejection are a certificate in the wrong format, a Class 12 result below the required percentage, or missing Biology or English in the qualifying subjects. Check each point against the notice before paying any fee.
Course and Career After B.Sc Nursing
B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing trains you in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition, microbiology, medical and surgical nursing, child health, community health, mental health and midwifery, along with clinical postings and internship. After completing the course and registering with the relevant nursing council, graduates can work as staff nurses in government and private hospitals, join community health programmes, or take up military nursing roles through their separate selection routes.
Graduates may also continue to M.Sc Nursing, public health or hospital administration. Salaries vary by employer, city and experience, so no figure is quoted here. Check the recruitment notice of the organisation you are targeting.
How to Prepare for BHU Nursing
NEET preparation works best in three phases. Keep the phases flexible and adjust them to the months you have left.
Build the base: Revise NCERT Biology line by line, since most Biology questions are drawn from it. In Chemistry and Physics, focus on concepts and standard numerical types.
Practise by topic: After each chapter, solve a set of questions and note the mistakes. A short error log is more useful than re-reading the chapter.
Simulate the paper: Attempt full-length tests of 180 questions in 180 minutes, because speed and accuracy under the negative marking rule need practice.
Subject-wise priorities
Biology (360 marks): Spend the most time here. Human physiology, genetics, cell biology and plant physiology are high-yield, and diagrams and tables from NCERT are worth memorising.
Chemistry (180 marks): Alternate between physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Keep a one-page sheet of reactions, exceptions and periodic trends.
Physics (180 marks): Practise numericals in short daily sets. If you are weaker here, secure the formula-based and conceptual questions first.
A simple weekly rhythm
Use three days for fresh chapters, two days for topic tests and error review, one day for a full or half-length test, and one day to revise the week. As the exam gets closer, shift more time to timed tests and less to new material. Revisit the error log every Sunday, because repeated mistakes cost marks under negative marking.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt BHU Nursing mock tests on Testkart and use the analysis to find weak chapters. Pair them with previous year NEET questions to understand the real difficulty level. If you prefer structured revision material, explore the BHU Nursing study notes available on Testkart.
Cut-Off Reference
Two different numbers matter. The first is the NEET qualifying percentile, which decides whether you can take part in counselling. The second is the rank or score at which BHU closed its seats in earlier rounds. We have not published the second figure because a verified official figure for BHU Nursing was not available.
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. See the BHU Nursing cut-off page for how to set a realistic target.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Assuming a separate BHU paper: Students sometimes prepare for a BHU-specific test that no longer matches the current process. Confirm the route first.
Ignoring eligibility until counselling: A good rank does not help if the Class 12 percentage or subjects do not meet the criteria.
Guessing without a plan: With minus 1 for a wrong answer, random guessing lowers your score. Attempt a question when you can remove at least two options.
Skipping revision of NCERT Biology: It is the most common source of lost marks for otherwise well-prepared candidates.
Depending on unofficial dates: Social media posts about counselling dates are often wrong. Use only official notices.
