BHU Nursing Officer Cut-off: Target Score Guide

The BHU Nursing Officer cut-off is the minimum score a candidate needs in the written test to move on to the skill test and document verification. Banaras Hindu University prepares the merit order from the 200-mark paper, and the last cycle we could trace was the written test held on 12 April 2024.

We could not verify an official category-wise cut-off for that cycle, and as of 19 October 2026 we found no newer advertisement. So this page does not quote a cut-off figure. Any number you see before an official result is an estimate. What you will find instead is how the cut-off works, what moves it, and how to build a target score from the marking scheme.

What the Cut-off Means for This Exam

The written test is a single paper of 50 questions and 200 marks, with 4 marks for a correct answer and a deduction of 2 marks for a wrong one, as reported for the last cycle. Cut-offs are generally set category-wise and reflect the number of vacancies, which were reported as 221 for the last cycle and are indicative.

It is also useful to know that only the written test is confirmed as scored. The weightage of the skill test is not verified, so check the notification to see whether it adds to your merit score or only qualifies you.

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. When BHU publishes a result or a merit list on its official website, check the category-wise marks there.

What Affects the Cut-off

  • Difficulty of the paper: A harder paper usually lowers the cut-off.

  • Number of vacancies: More posts in a category generally means a lower cut-off.

  • Number of applicants: A large field raises competition for each post.

  • Negative marking: Candidates who guess freely lose marks, which can pull scores down across the board.

How to Set Your Target Score

Instead of chasing a number, build the target from your own mocks. These steps work for any cycle.

  1. Measure accuracy: Take three full 50-question papers and note your average correct and wrong answers.

  2. Do the arithmetic: Score is 4 times correct answers minus 2 times wrong answers. For example, 38 correct and 6 wrong gives 140.

  3. Raise the floor: Cut wrong answers first, because each one costs you 6 marks compared with a correct answer.

  4. Set a margin: When an official cut-off is available, aim for at least 10 to 15 percent above it, since the skill test and verification still lie ahead.
