Bihar Police SI Cut-off 2026: Prelims and Mains
The Bihar Police SI cut-off is the lowest score with which a candidate in a given category moved to the next stage. BPSSC publishes it category-wise and separately for men and women, out of 200 marks, with each stage result. For Advertisement No. 05/2025, cut-offs were released for the prelims on 16 March 2026 and for the mains on 19 June 2026.
One caution applies to this cycle. BPSSC cancelled the mains exam of 27 May 2026 on 23 September 2026, so the mains cut-off below comes from an exam that will be held again. Treat every figure on this page as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass.

Bihar Police SI Mains Cut-off 2026
The mains result listed 10,759 candidates for the physical test, at about six times the category-wise vacancies. The cut-off is based on Paper 2 (General Studies), since Paper 1 (General Hindi) is qualifying only.
Category | Men (out of 200) | Women (out of 200) |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved | 134.00 | 116.20 |
EWS | 127.40 | 109.60 |
BC | 129.20 | 110.00 |
EBC | 126.80 | 105.40 |
SC | 114.40 | 87.00 |
ST | 109.80 | 92.80 |
BC women | Not applicable | 107.60 |
The transgender category had a single combined cut-off of 65.80. This result was based on the mains exam that BPSSC later cancelled. When the mains is held again, a fresh result and cut-off are expected. Separate cut-offs were also given for dependants of freedom fighters; check the official result for those.
Minimum Qualifying Marks Versus Cut-off
The advertisement sets minimum marks, and these are often confused with cut-offs. The minimum only keeps you in contention. The cut-off is what actually decides who moves ahead.
Stage | Minimum marks | Actual unreserved male cut-off (2026) |
|---|---|---|
Prelims | 30% (60 out of 200) | 130.67 |
Mains Paper 1 (General Hindi) | 30% (60 out of 200) | Qualifying only |
Mains Paper 2 (General Studies) | 40% for unreserved, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC, 32% for SC, ST and women | 134.00 |
The gap between the minimum and the real cut-off is large. Nobody should plan to clear this exam at 30% or 40%.
What Affects the Cut-off
Paper difficulty: A tougher paper pulls cut-offs down, and an easier one pushes them up.
Vacancies in your category: Shortlisting is a fixed multiple of vacancies, so categories with few seats can see sharp competition.
Number of candidates: Over 7.2 lakh candidates appeared for the 2026 prelims, according to the official result. More candidates for the same seats usually means a higher cut-off.
Normalisation: Multi-shift papers are normalised, so raw marks in your shift may differ from the score used for the cut-off.
Women's horizontal reservation: Women have separate, generally lower, cut-offs because of the 35% horizontal share.
How to Set Your Target Score
Start from your category figure: Take the latest cut-off for your category and gender as the base.
Add a margin: Aim 10 to 15 marks above it, so a harder or easier paper does not catch you out.
Translate it into questions: Each correct answer is worth 2 marks and each wrong one costs 0.2. For example, 76 correct and 10 wrong answers give 150 out of 200.
Track it in mocks: Reach your target in several full-length mocks in a row before you treat it as safe. The section-wise analysis in Testkart tests shows which area is holding your score below the target.
