Bihar Police SI Syllabus 2026: Prelims and Mains

The Bihar Police SI syllabus covers three objective papers: a General Knowledge and Current Affairs paper in the prelims, and General Hindi plus General Studies in the mains. The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) sets these papers for the Police Sub Inspector (Daroga) post under Advertisement No. 05/2025, which has 1,799 vacancies.

BPSSC names the subjects for each paper in its advertisement but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topic lists below are built from the official subject names and from the kind of questions asked in previous papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. Since the mains exam of 27 May 2026 was cancelled and will be held again, this page also shows where prelims-qualified candidates should put their extra time.

Decides merit

Every paper carries a deduction of 0.2 marks per wrong answer. For the marking rules and the minimum marks for merit, see the Bihar Police SI exam pattern page.

Key Points to Know Before You Start

  • Only subject names are official: The advertisement lists General Knowledge and Current Affairs for the prelims. For Mains Paper 2, it lists General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, and Mathematics and Mental Ability.

  • Paper 2 carries your rank: The prelims and the Hindi paper are qualifying. Your final merit comes from Mains Paper 2, so its subjects deserve the largest share of your time.

  • Hindi can eliminate you: Scoring below 30% in General Hindi ends your candidature, even with a strong General Studies score.

  • The mains will be held again: BPSSC cancelled the mains of 27 May 2026 through a notice dated 23 September 2026. The syllabus has not been changed in that notice, but check the next mains notice for any revision.

  • Other Bihar SI posts differ: Prohibition SI, Enforcement SI and Special Branch SI have their own advertisements and papers. Older pages sometimes mix these up, so follow the 05/2025 advertisement for the regular Police SI post.

Prelims Syllabus: General Knowledge and Current Affairs

The prelims is a single paper of 100 questions. Questions in earlier papers have mixed static general knowledge, general science, Bihar-specific questions and current affairs, with a smaller share of basic arithmetic and reasoning. The mix changes from year to year, so cover all areas rather than betting on one.

History, polity and current affairs usually give the most dependable marks in a GK paper because the questions stay close to standard facts. General science rewards quick revision of school-level concepts. Bihar GK is the area many candidates leave for the end, and it is often where scores separate. To see how high the prelims bar has been, check the Bihar Police SI cut-off page.

Mains Paper 1 Syllabus: General Hindi

General Hindi tests grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. It is qualifying, but a weak score here ends your selection, so it needs regular attention rather than last-minute revision.

Grammar

  • Word formation: Sandhi and sandhi-viched, samas, upsarg and pratyay.

  • Parts of speech: Sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya, kriya-visheshan, and their kinds.

Comprehension

Read a short passage and answer questions on its meaning, tone and vocabulary. Regular reading of Hindi newspapers helps both speed and accuracy here.

Mains Paper 2 Syllabus: General Studies

This is the paper that ranks you, and it is the broadest. The advertisement names six areas. Plan your study around them, since together they decide your place in the merit list.

General Studies and current affairs

  • Static GK: Books and authors, awards, important days, sports, national symbols, organisations.

  • Bihar GK: History, geography, culture, economy, administration and schemes of the state.

Mistakes that cost marks

  • Treating Hindi as an easy pass: Many candidates leave General Hindi to the last week. Grammar rules need time to settle, and the 30% minimum is not automatic.

  • Skipping Bihar GK: State-specific questions appear in both stages. Leaving them out gives away marks that others collect easily.

  • Collecting material instead of revising: Five sets of notes read once help less than one set revised five times.

  • Avoiding mathematics: Mathematics and mental ability are named in Paper 2. Skipping them narrows the number of questions you can attempt with confidence.

  • Studying without testing: Reading alone does not show your speed. Regular timed tests reveal gaps that a book cannot.

You can use Testkart to turn each finished chapter into a short topic test, which keeps revision honest and shows quickly whether a subject is ready.

How to Cover the Bihar Police SI Syllabus

A phased plan keeps all three papers moving together. Adjust the weeks to the time you have before the next official date.

  1. Weeks 1 to 6, foundations: Cover polity, history, geography and general science from standard school-level books. Start Hindi grammar for 30 minutes a day.

  2. Weeks 3 onward, current affairs: Spend 30 to 40 minutes daily on national and Bihar news, and make monthly notes.

  3. Weeks 5 to 10, mathematics and reasoning: Learn methods topic by topic, then move to timed sets of 20 questions.

  4. Weeks 8 to 12, topic and sectional tests: Test each subject separately and record every mistake in an error log.

  5. Final phase, full-length mocks: Take timed 100-question papers, analyse each one the same day and revise from your error log.
