What Is Bihar SLET and What It Is Not
Bihar SLET is a qualifying test, not a direct recruitment exam. It does not carry a vacancy list or a salary offer on its own. The board has indicated that separate recruitment will be announced later, and your SLET certificate will be one of the things you need when that happens.
What this means for you: If you have been waiting for a librarian vacancy count, there is no confirmed number yet. Figures circulating online are not part of the official advertisement, so treat them as unconfirmed.
Many candidates also confuse SLET with the teacher eligibility test. The table below shows the difference. Some websites write the librarian test as Bihar LET, which refers to the same exam.
Point | Bihar SLET | Bihar STET |
|---|---|---|
Meant for | School librarians | Subject teachers |
Main subject | Library Science and General Knowledge | Teaching subjects and pedagogy |
Result | Eligibility certificate | Eligibility certificate |
Recruitment | Announced separately | Announced separately |

Eligibility Criteria
Nationality and Domicile
You must be an Indian citizen and a resident of Bihar. Candidates from outside Bihar are not eligible.
Educational Qualification
You need a graduation degree from a recognised university with at least 45% marks, along with a Library Science degree from a recognised university. Alim and Shastri qualifications from the specified Bihar universities and boards are treated as equivalent to graduation.
Reserved categories (SC, ST, EBC, BC, Divyang, women and EWS) get a 5% relaxation in the minimum graduation marks, but only if they are Bihar residents. Please read the qualification clause in the advertisement for the exact degree level, because the Education Department, Bihar, decides any equivalence dispute and its decision is final.
Age Limit
Age is counted as on 1 August 2026. The minimum age is 21 years.
Category | Maximum age (male) | Maximum age (female) |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved | 37 years | 40 years |
BC and EBC | 40 years | 40 years |
SC and ST | 42 years | 42 years |
Divyang candidates get an additional 10 years. Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus the period of service, but their actual age at the time of application cannot exceed 57 years.

Category | Fee |
|---|---|
General, BC, EBC | Rs 960 |
SC, ST, Divyang | Rs 760 |
The fee can be paid online by debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Keep the payment confirmation, because your application is considered complete only after a successful payment.

Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
Section | Marks | Questions |
|---|---|---|
Library Science | 100 | 100 |
General Knowledge | 50 | 50 |
Total | 150 | 150 |
The test is a single paper of 150 minutes. Every question carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking. Some websites mention 120 minutes, but the official advertisement states 150 minutes, so plan your time on that basis.
Since you have roughly one minute per question, the test rewards steady accuracy rather than speed. Library Science questions are usually direct, so you can finish them quickly and keep extra time for General Knowledge. The Bihar SLET exam pattern page explains the structure in more detail.
Qualifying Marks and Normalization
You must score a minimum percentage of the total 150 marks, and the percentage depends on your category.
Category | Qualifying percentage | Marks out of 150 |
|---|---|---|
General | 50% | 75 |
BC | 45.5% | About 68.25 |
EBC | 42.5% | About 63.75 |
SC, ST, Divyang, Women | 40% | 60 |
The exam may run in several sittings, so scores are normalized to keep things fair across sessions. The qualifying marks apply to the normalized score, not the raw score. As per the notification's own example, a raw score of 76 became 74.90 after normalization and fell just below the 75-mark cut-off.
What this means for you: Do not aim for the bare minimum. Aim for a clear margin above your category cut-off, and avoid random guesses, because wrong answers in a normalized sitting can pull your final score down.
Selection Process and What Comes After
There is no interview. The process is simple: apply online, appear in the CBT, and qualify with the required percentage on the normalized score. Successful candidates receive a qualifying certificate.
The certificate does not appoint you to a post. It makes you eligible to apply when the recruitment notification for school librarians is released. Keep an eye on the board's announcements, and keep your original documents updated so you can apply quickly when that time comes.
Syllabus Overview
The Library Science section follows the Library Science graduation syllabus of Bihar's recognised universities. Reported topic areas include foundations of library science, library management, classification, cataloguing, information sources and services, ICT and library automation, digital libraries and research methodology. The General Knowledge section covers history, geography, polity, economy, general science and current affairs, with a focus on Bihar. For the unit-wise breakdown, read the Bihar SLET syllabus.
How to Prepare for Bihar SLET
With the exam window starting around 19 November 2026, you have a few weeks. A focused plan works better than studying everything.
Stage | What to do |
|---|---|
Week 1 | Revise foundations and library management from your university notes. Start daily Bihar GK reading. |
Week 2 | Cover classification, cataloguing and information sources. Take your first full-length mock test. |
Week 3 | Cover ICT, digital libraries and research methodology. Analyse mock results and fix weak units. |
Final week | Stop new topics. Repeat mock tests, short notes and current affairs. |
Start with Library Science: It carries two-thirds of the paper. Revise unit by unit and note down key terms, laws, schemes and standards.
Keep a one-page revision sheet: Short lists such as Ranganathan's Five Laws and major classification schemes are easy to revise before the exam.
Cover Bihar GK steadily: Spend 30 to 40 minutes daily on Bihar history, geography, economy, schemes and current affairs.
Practise on a computer: The exam is a CBT, so get comfortable reading and answering on a screen. Try Bihar SLET mock tests on Testkart to practise under timed conditions.
Analyse every test: Note which units cost you marks and revisit them within a day or two.
If you prefer guided practice, you can explore the Bihar SLET test series and study notes on Testkart for topic-wise questions.
Common Application Mistakes to Avoid
Wrong category for EWS: EWS candidates should select General, not EBC.
Capital letters in the signature: The signature and declaration should not be typed in capital letters.
Waiting for the last day: Server load is heavy near a deadline, so apply early.
Skipping the advertisement: Corrections are not allowed after the admit card is issued, so verify every detail before you submit.
Wrong file size or format: A photo or signature outside the stated size range may be rejected, so check before uploading.
Applying twice: Only one application per candidate is allowed, and duplicate applications may be rejected.
