Bihar Public Service Commission AEDO
BPSC AEDO is a recruitment exam conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.
The BPSC AEDO exam is the Bihar Public Service Commission's recruitment test for the post of Assistant Education Development Officer in Bihar's education administration. The current cycle runs under Advertisement No. 87/2025 for 935 posts, and it has had an unusual journey: the January 2026 exam was postponed, and the April 2026 sitting was later cancelled. Every applicant is now waiting for a fresh written exam.
This page brings together everything you need while you wait: the current status, the full timeline, vacancies, eligibility, fee, the three-paper exam pattern, salary and a practical plan for the re-exam. Year-specific details are kept in labelled tables, so you can quickly see what is confirmed and what still depends on the next BPSC notice.

BPSC AEDO 2026: Latest Status
The written exam held on 14, 15, 17, 18, 20 and 21 April 2026 has been cancelled by the Commission after malpractice attempts were reported at some centres. BPSC has said the exam will be conducted again, but as of 14 October 2026 it has not announced the re-exam date.
Who can sit the re-exam: Candidates who applied under Advertisement No. 87/2025. A fresh admit card will be issued before the new exam date.
What has not changed: The vacancies, eligibility and exam pattern stay as notified unless BPSC issues a corrigendum.
Where to check: The "What's New" section of the official BPSC website and your registered email and mobile number.
Treat the gap as extra preparation time. Applicants who keep practising full papers through this period usually walk into the re-exam with a clear speed advantage.

What Does an AEDO Do?
AEDO stands for Assistant Education Development Officer. The post supports the state's school education administration at the field level. Broadly, the work involves monitoring schools, following up on how education schemes are implemented, collecting and reporting data, and coordinating between schools and higher education offices.
It suits graduates who want a stable state government job connected to education but outside classroom teaching. The exact posting and duties are decided by the Education Department after selection, so read the notification and appointment letter for the formal job description.

BPSC AEDO Vacancy 2026
BPSC has notified 935 posts. The category-wise split below is as reported from the notification, with the share reserved for women shown within each category. Confirm the figures in the official PDF before relying on them.
Category | Total posts | Of which reserved for women |
|---|---|---|
Unreserved (UR) | 374 | 131 |
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 93 | 33 |

Competition is heavy. Reports at the time of the January postponement put the applicant count at over 9 lakh, which works out to roughly 1,000 applicants per post. That ratio is why accuracy in the two merit papers matters so much.
BPSC AEDO Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates need a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university. No specific stream, percentage or teaching qualification is required for this post.
Age Limit
Age is counted as on 1 August 2025. The minimum age is 21 years, and the upper limit depends on category and gender.
Category | Maximum age |
|---|---|
Unreserved (Male) | 37 years |
Unreserved (Female) | 40 years |
BC and EBC (Male and Female) | 40 years |
SC and ST (Male and Female) | 42 years |
Other Conditions
Reservation and domicile: As in other BPSC recruitments, category reservation is generally available only to permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates from other states usually apply under the unreserved category.
Certificates: Category, EWS and other certificates must be valid as per the dates and formats given in the notification.
Since applications are closed, eligibility now matters most at document verification. Keep originals of your degree, age proof and category certificates ready. For a detailed breakdown, see the BPSC AEDO eligibility guide.
Application Fee and How to Apply
The examination fee was Rs. 100 for all categories, with bank transaction charges extra. Both application windows (August to September 2025 and the reopened window in December 2025) have closed, and no new window has been announced for the re-exam.
If BPSC reopens applications in future, the process follows the usual steps:
Complete One Time Registration (OTR) on the BPSC online application portal.
Log in and fill in the AEDO application form for Advertisement No. 87/2025.
Upload your photograph, signature and the documents asked for in the notification.
Pay the fee online and submit the form.
Download and keep a printout of the submitted form and payment receipt.
Existing applicants should log in now to confirm their details are correct and their registered email and phone number still work. That is how the re-exam admit card notice will reach you.
BPSC AEDO Exam Pattern
The written exam has three objective papers, each with 100 questions for 100 marks and a duration of 2 hours. It is conducted offline on OMR sheets.
Paper | Questions | Marks | Time | Counted in merit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Paper 1: General Language (English 30 marks, Hindi 70 marks) | 100 | 100 | 2 hours | No, qualifying only |
Paper 2: General Studies | 100 | 100 | 2 hours | Yes |
Paper 3: General Aptitude | 100 | 100 | 2 hours | Yes |
Total | 300 | 300 | 6 hours | 200 marks in merit |
One-third of a mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and unattempted questions carry no penalty. The General Language paper is qualifying: candidates must score at least 30% in the English part and in the Hindi part, as widely reported from the notification.
What This Means for You
Merit is decided out of 200, not 300: Only General Studies and General Aptitude scores decide your rank, so most of your study time belongs there.
Do not neglect Paper 1: Failing to reach the minimum in either English or Hindi can end your selection, however well you do elsewhere. Hindi carries 70 of the 100 marks.
Guessing has a price: Three wrong answers cancel one correct answer. A blind guess on a four-option question gains nothing on average, so guess only when you can rule out at least one option.
Stamina counts: Six hours of OMR papers test concentration, so practise full papers back to back before the exam.
Some older pages describe a departmental test or interview for this post. The notification for this cycle lists only the written exam and document verification, so follow the official text. See the BPSC AEDO exam pattern page for paper-wise detail.
BPSC AEDO Syllabus Summary
Paper | Main areas | Start with |
|---|---|---|
General Language: English | Comprehension, grammar, usage, vocabulary | Error spotting and reading comprehension |
General Language: Hindi | Grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, unseen passage, idioms | Sandhi, samas, synonyms and antonyms |
General Studies | General science, current events, history of India and Bihar, geography, Indian polity and economy, Indian National Movement | Bihar GK and the last 12 months of current affairs |
General Aptitude | Arithmetic, number system, data interpretation, verbal and non-verbal reasoning | Percentage, ratio and number series |
The official syllabus gives broad headings rather than a chapter-by-chapter list. For a topic-wise checklist with weightage guidance.
Selection Process
Written exam: Clear the qualifying minimum in both parts of General Language. Your General Studies and General Aptitude marks then form your merit score out of 200.
Merit list: Candidates are ranked category-wise on that score against the notified vacancies.
Document verification: Shortlisted candidates present original certificates for qualification, age, category and identity. Final selection follows successful verification.
BPSC AEDO Salary
The post is placed at Pay Level 5 of the pay matrix, with a starting basic pay of Rs. 29,200 per month. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances admissible to Bihar government employees are paid on top of basic pay.
Component | Details |
|---|---|
Pay level | Level 5 |
Starting basic pay | Rs. 29,200 per month |
Allowances | DA, HRA and others as per Bihar government rules |
In-hand salary | Varies with DA rate and posting location |
Online estimates of in-hand pay are not official figures. Your actual salary depends on the current DA rate, the HRA slab of your posting and deductions.
BPSC AEDO Cut-Off
There is no previous cut-off for this exam. This is the first large recruitment under this advertisement, and the April 2026 sitting was cancelled before results, so no official marks benchmark exists yet.
When BPSC releases a cut-off after the re-exam, it will be category-wise and based on the 200 merit marks. With roughly 1,000 applicants per post, set your target well above a bare pass. A practical working goal is to keep your mock scores in General Studies and General Aptitude rising every month, with accuracy above 85%.
How to Prepare for the BPSC AEDO Re-Exam
Nobody knows the exact re-exam date, so plan in phases that you can compress if the notice arrives early.
Phase 1, concepts (first 4 to 6 weeks): Rebuild arithmetic basics and core reasoning types. Read Bihar history, geography and economy from one standard source.
Phase 2, coverage (next 4 to 6 weeks): Add Indian polity, economy and general science. Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day on current affairs and keep monthly notes.
Phase 3, language: Give Hindi grammar 20 minutes daily and English grammar 15 minutes. The aim is a safe margin over the qualifying mark, not perfection.
Phase 4, full papers: Take timed full papers in the real order and length, analyse each one the same day, and log every mistake by topic.
Mock Tests and Previous Papers
BPSC does not publish an official online mock test for the AEDO exam. Practice papers therefore come from preparation platforms, while the cancelled April 2026 question papers show the real difficulty level. Keep the BPSC website as your source for official notices.
Mix full-length papers with short sectional tests in Hindi grammar and reasoning, since those are the areas where speed improves fastest.Track three numbers after every mock: accuracy, attempts and time per paper. If accuracy drops below 80%, slow down and attempt fewer questions. With 1/3 negative marking, careful attempts usually beat aggressive ones.
