Which Marks Count Towards the Cut-Off

The written exam has three objective papers of 100 marks each, but only two of them decide your rank.

Paper

Marks

Role in selection

Paper 1: General Language (English 30, Hindi 70)

100

Qualifying only, minimum 30% marks

Paper 2: General Studies

100

Counted in merit

Paper 3: General Aptitude

100

Counted in merit

Merit total

200

Paper 2 + Paper 3

Some pages still quote expected cut-offs out of 300. Because Paper 1 is not added to the merit score, a merit cut-off out of 300 does not match the official scheme, so read such figures with caution.

What Will Decide the BPSC AEDO Cut Off

  • Applicants per post: A very large applicant pool for 935 posts pushes the cut-off up, especially in categories with few seats.

  • Re-exam difficulty: An easier paper raises scores across the board; a tougher paper lowers them.

  • Negative marking: Each wrong answer costs one-third of a mark, so careless guessing lowers raw scores and the final cut-off.

  • Multiple shifts: If the re-exam runs in several shifts, BPSC may adjust scores for fairness, which can shift final marks.

How to Set Your Target Score

With no previous official cut-off, your mock scores out of 200 (Paper 2 + Paper 3) are the best benchmark. Aim for a clear margin rather than a bare pass, and never ignore Paper 1: missing its 30% minimum ends your selection, whatever your other scores.

Accuracy matters as much as attempts. For example, 80 attempts at 90% accuracy give 72 correct and 8 wrong, which is about 69.3 marks in that paper. The same 80 attempts at 75% accuracy give only about 53.3.
