Persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen and eligible government or contractual employees get further relaxation under Bihar government rules. The contractual employee relaxation equals the period of contract service on the same post, within the overall limit set in the corrigendum.

Other Conditions

  • Residence and reservation: Reservation benefits apply only to permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates from other states can apply in the unreserved category.

  • Hindi: Main exam Paper 1 is a Hindi language paper, so a working command of Hindi is needed to move forward.

Application Fee and Application Status

The original advertisement listed a fee of Rs. 540 for most candidates and Rs. 135 for reserved and women candidates of Bihar. In August 2025 the Bihar government approved a flat fee of Rs. 100 for the preliminary stage of state recruitment exams and no fee for the main stage, and the BSSC CGL application was paused while the fee was revised. Most reports since then give Rs. 100 as the fee for this cycle; confirm the exact amount from your application receipt or the official notice.

The application window is now closed. If you applied, keep your registration number, password and fee receipt safe, because you will need them to download the admit card.

BSSC CGL Exam Pattern

The exam has two written stages. Prelims is a screening test. Merit is decided by the Main exam. Section-wise details, timing advice and the cost of wrong answers are on the BSSC CGL exam pattern page.

You need at least 30% in Paper 1 for Paper 2 to be evaluated. Paper 2 decides your rank.

What this means for you:

  • Accuracy beats volume: One wrong answer cancels a quarter of a correct one, so random guessing on 20 questions can wipe out the marks of five correct answers.

  • Prelims and Paper 2 overlap: The same three subject areas appear in both, so one preparation plan covers both stages.

  • Do not ignore Hindi: Paper 1 is qualifying, but failing it means Paper 2 is not checked at all.

How to Prepare for BSSC CGL

Because prelims and Mains Paper 2 test the same three areas, plan one combined preparation and add Hindi on top. A long gap before the exam date is an advantage if you use it to build depth rather than waiting for the notice.

Stage-wise Plan

  • Build the base first: Cover arithmetic chapters, Class 9 and 10 science and core reasoning types before moving to mixed practice.

  • Give Bihar GK its own slot: Bihar history, geography, culture and government schemes appear regularly, and many candidates leave them for the last week.

  • Read current affairs daily: Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day and keep monthly notes, with a separate page for Bihar news.

  • Practise Hindi grammar weekly: Two or three focused sessions a week on sandhi, samas, idioms and sentence correction are enough to clear 30% comfortably.

  • Revise from an error log: Note every wrong or slow question and revisit the list each week.

Mock Tests and Practice

The commission has not published an official mock test for BSSC CGL, so follow the official website for exam instructions and any practice link it may add before the exam.

Official notices, admit cards and results are released only on the Bihar Staff Selection Commission website. Check it regularly so you do not miss the exam notice for this cycle.
