CISF ASI Eligibility: Age Limit, Qualification and Physical Standards

CISF ASI eligibility is different for the two ways the post is filled. For ASI (Stenographer), an open candidate with a Class 12 pass certificate and the right age can apply. For ASI (Executive), only serving CISF personnel with the required years of service and a graduation degree can compete in the departmental examination.

This page explains each rule in plain terms: education, age and relaxations, service and attempts, nationality, physical standards and common disqualifiers. The figures are from the last reported ASI notices and third-party summaries. We could not open the official recruitment site while preparing this page, so no figure here replaces the current notification. Read the rules there before you apply.

Educational qualification

ASI (Stenographer)

You need an Intermediate or Senior Secondary (Class 12) certificate from a recognised board or university. The result should be declared on or before the closing date of the application, so students waiting for results should read the notice carefully. The last reported notice did not ask for a stream, but check the current wording.

You must also meet the skill requirement. The reported skill test has dictation at 80 words per minute for 10 minutes, followed by transcription in 50 minutes for English or 65 minutes for Hindi, on a computer.

ASI (Executive) LDCE

A graduation degree from a recognised university is required, as reported for the 2020 and 2024 cycles. Percentage conversions and degrees from distance or open universities are decided by the notice, so do not assume.

Age limit and relaxations

ASI (Stenographer)

The reported age limit is 18 to 25 years. In the 2022 cycle, the date-of-birth window reported was 26 October 1998 to 25 October 2005, which is a good example of how the window is fixed to a specific date in each notice. Your age is counted on the date given in the notice and not on the day you apply.

Ex-servicemen

As set in the notice, with higher relaxation for SC and ST

Third-party summaries give specific higher limits for departmental candidates, but because we cannot confirm them, we have listed the rule and not the number.

  2. Note the age reference date and the qualification deadline from the notice.

  3. Calculate your age on that date, then add the relaxation you are entitled to.

  4. Measure your height and chest before applying so that you are not surprised at the PST.

  5. Check your certificates for name and date-of-birth mismatches.
