CRPF Constable Syllabus 2026: Subject-wise Topics and Trade Test
The CRPF Constable syllabus for the 2026 Technical & Tradesmen and Pioneer recruitment has two parts: a written Computer Based Test (CBT) in four subjects, and a practical Trade Test for your post. The Central Reserve Police Force publishes an official topic outline for each CBT subject in its notification dated 8 April 2026, and the questions are of Matriculation (Class 10) level.
This page lists those official topics, adds what to start with in each subject, explains what the Trade Test checks for every trade, and gives a phased plan to cover it all. Constable (GD) posts in CRPF are filled through the SSC Constable (GD) exam, which has its own notice. The four subject areas are similar, so most of this preparation helps on both routes.

Key changes to know
CBT comes after the physical tests: In 2026, only candidates who clear the PET and PST sit the CBT, so you need fitness and the written syllabus ready at the same time.
English and Hindi only: The CBT is not offered in regional languages, so practise reading questions in the language you will choose.
Ministerial posts dropped: The 2023 exam also covered Ministerial Staff. The 2026 recruitment does not, so skip any older material written for Ministerial posts.
Older pages may still mix the SSC Constable (GD) syllabus with this exam, so follow the official CRPF notification.
CBT syllabus by subject
Section | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
General Intelligence and Reasoning | Analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation, spatial orientation, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding | Analogies, series and coding-decoding |
General Knowledge and General Awareness | Current events, everyday science, sports, history, culture, geography, economy, general policy, Indian Constitution, scientific research, India and its neighbouring countries | Current affairs and static GK on India |
Elementary Mathematics | Number system, whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationship between numbers, fundamental operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, time and work | Percentages, ratio and averages |
English/Hindi | Basic understanding of the language and basic comprehension | Reading comprehension and grammar basics |
The table above follows the official outline. The sub-topics below are built from that outline and from common Matriculation-level question types, so use them as a working checklist rather than an official list.
General Intelligence and Reasoning
The notification says these questions are mainly non-verbal and test your ability to observe and tell patterns apart. Prepare for figure series, odd one out, mirror and water images, paper folding, and simple number or letter series alongside verbal analogies and coding.
Non-verbal reasoning: Figure series, figural classification, embedded figures, mirror images.
Verbal reasoning: Analogies, classification, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense.
Arithmetical reasoning: Number series, missing numbers, simple calculations inside reasoning sets.
General Knowledge and General Awareness
Questions test awareness of the world around you, and the notification says they do not need special study of any discipline. That makes breadth more useful than depth.
Current affairs: National and international events, sports, awards and government schemes from the last 6 to 12 months.
Static GK: Indian history, culture, geography, economy and the Constitution at school level.
Everyday science: Basic physics, chemistry and biology from Class 6 to 10.
India and neighbours: Capitals, currencies, borders, rivers and relations with neighbouring countries.
Elementary Mathematics
This is school arithmetic. Most questions can be solved in a few steps once your basics and tables are strong.
Area | Topics |
|---|---|
Number work | Number system, whole numbers, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, simplification |
Commercial maths | Percentages, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest |
Ratio-based | Ratio and proportion, averages, mixtures |
Applied arithmetic | Time and work, time and distance, mensuration of basic 2D and 3D figures |
English/Hindi
You choose one language. The notification says it tests basic understanding and comprehension, so cover reading comprehension, vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), sentence correction, fill in the blanks, and idioms at a school level.
Trade Test syllabus
The Trade Test is practical and qualifying. You must score at least 20 out of 50, and you are asked to perform tasks from the trade you applied for. The notification lists these parameters:
Trade | What you may be asked to do |
|---|---|
Driver | Handling, driving, parking and maintenance of light and heavy vehicles |
Motor Mechanic Vehicle | Automobile fitter or motor mechanic work and handling of tools |
Bugler | Playing, handling and maintenance of the bugle |
Tailor | Taking measurements, cutting and stitching uniforms, civil clothes and warm clothing |
Cobbler | Polishing, cutting leather, repairing and stitching shoes, making new shoes |
Carpenter | Cutting, fitting and finishing wood, fitting doors and windows, making boxes, racks and a timber truss |
Painter | Colours and shades, sign boards, spray painting of vehicles, lettering on banners, estimating paint quantity |
Gardener (Mali) | Planting and maintaining plants, seeds and seasons, fertilisers and manures |
Brass Band, Pipe Band | Playing the band instruments |
Cook | Cooking chapati, rice, vegetables, dal and similar dishes for 100 men, and meat, fish, egg or kheer |
Water Carrier | Washing utensils, kneading atta for about 100 men, cutting vegetables |
Barber, Hair Dresser (female) | Handling tools, hair cutting and shaving |
Washerman, Washerwoman | Washing clothes and ironing cotton, woollen and TC uniforms |
Safai Karamchari | Sweeping floors and open areas, cleaning toilets and bathrooms |
Mason (Pioneer) | Masonry work, handling tools, mixing cement, calculating wall or pillar area |
Electrician (Pioneer) | Fitting MCBs, plugs, bulbs, tube lights and holders, earthing, generator sets, use of copper and aluminium wire |
There is no book syllabus for this stage. The most useful preparation is regular hands-on work in your trade, timed where the task allows it.
How to prepare each section
Reasoning
Learn patterns by type: Group questions into series, analogy, classification and coding, and solve 20 of one type before moving on.
Practise figures daily: Non-verbal questions improve fastest with short daily sets rather than long weekend sessions.
General Knowledge and General Awareness
Split static and current: Give static GK a fixed weekly slot and current affairs a short daily slot.
Revise in cycles: GK facts fade quickly, so revise each topic again after one week and after one month.
Elementary Mathematics
Fix the basics first: Tables up to 20, squares up to 30 and common fraction-percentage conversions save time in almost every question.
Solve without a calculator: Calculators are not allowed in the CBT, so practise every calculation by hand.
English/Hindi
Read every day: A short newspaper article in your chosen language builds comprehension speed.
Track your errors: Note grammar rules you get wrong and revise them weekly.
Topic-wise tests on Testkart can help you check each topic as soon as you finish it, before mistakes become habits.
Overlap with the SSC Constable (GD) exam
If you also plan to apply for Constable (GD) in CRPF through SSC, you can study the common areas once. The question count, marks and time differ, so practise each pattern separately.
Area | CRPF Technical & Tradesmen CBT | SSC Constable (GD) exam | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Reasoning | 25 questions | 20 questions | Same topic base; practise non-verbal sets for both |
GK and General Awareness | 25 questions | 20 questions | One current affairs routine serves both |
Mathematics | 25 questions | 20 questions | Same arithmetic topics; build speed for the shorter SSC paper |
English/Hindi | 25 questions | 20 questions | Comprehension and grammar basics for both |
Trade Test | Yes | No | Extra practical preparation for CRPF trade posts only |
How to cover the syllabus
Weeks 1 to 4: Basics of mathematics (tables, percentages, ratio, averages) and one reasoning topic a day. Start a daily 30-minute current affairs habit and run three to four times a week.
Weeks 5 to 8: Finish the remaining maths and reasoning topics, add static GK and everyday science, and practise comprehension passages. Begin topic-wise tests of 20 to 25 questions.
Weeks 9 to 12: Take sectional tests of 25 questions and keep an error log. Practise your trade tasks weekly and run your full PET distance against the clock.
Final phase: Full-length mocks of 100 questions in 2 hours, same-day analysis, and revision from your error log.
