CUET PG Eligibility 2027: Qualification, Age and Rules

CUET PG eligibility works at two levels. To sit the test, you need a bachelor's degree or must be in the final year of one. To get admission, you must also meet the separate eligibility that each participating university sets for each programme. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts CUET PG, and the 2027 exam is tentatively scheduled for March 2027.

The 2027 information bulletin has not been released yet, so the rules below come from the official CUET PG 2026 bulletin. This page explains who can apply, the age rule, how university-specific criteria work, common reasons candidates lose a seat even with a good score, and what to check before you choose your papers.

Educational Qualification

The 2026 bulletin allows two groups of candidates to apply:

  • Graduates: candidates who have passed a bachelor's degree or an equivalent examination.

  • Final-year students: candidates appearing in the final year of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in the same year as the exam.

Final-year candidates are admitted provisionally. You must produce your final result by the date the university sets, usually at document verification. If you cannot, the university can cancel your admission.

Percentage, CGPA and subject background

NTA does not set a minimum percentage for appearing. Universities do. Many programmes ask for a minimum aggregate in graduation, a relaxation for reserved categories, and a degree in a related subject. Some convert CGPA to percentage with their own formula. Read the programme's eligibility in the university's PG admission bulletin before you apply.

Age Limit

There is no age limit for appearing in CUET PG. This means a working professional or a candidate who graduated years ago can take the test. A few programmes may still apply their own conditions, so confirm with the university.

University-specific Eligibility

This is the part most candidates miss. Each participating university decides:

  • Which paper code counts: for example, a programme may accept only the domain paper, or only the General Paper (MBA etc.).

  • Minimum qualifying marks: in graduation and sometimes in the CUET PG paper itself.

  • Subject requirements: such as a bachelor's in the same discipline or honours in that subject.

  • Reservation and quota rules: category reservation, supernumerary seats and state or institutional quotas follow the university's own policy.

  • Its own deadlines: for application, result submission and document verification.

NTA itself states that candidates should check the eligibility of the university they are applying to. A high score does not help if you do not meet the programme's criteria.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Indian and overseas candidates: the test has centres in India and in several countries abroad, with a separate fee for centres outside India.

  • Foreign nationals: admission rules for foreign and NRI candidates are set by each university, and some use separate routes.

  • PwBD candidates: get compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour in the test. Upload a valid disability or UDID certificate (PDF, 50 kb to 300 kb).

Who Is Not Eligible

  • No degree and not in the final year: students in the first or second year of a degree cannot apply.

  • Wrong paper chosen: a score in a paper the programme does not accept will not count for that programme.

  • Missing the result deadline: final-year candidates who cannot show their degree result in time can lose the seat.

  • Below the university's minimum: not meeting the graduation percentage or subject rule makes the score irrelevant for that programme.

Fee and Documents

The 2026 fee for up to two papers was Rs. 1,400 for General, Rs. 1,200 for Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL, Rs. 1,100 for SC, ST and Third Gender, and Rs. 1,000 for PwBD candidates, plus processing charges and GST. Keep a recent photo (10 kb to 200 kb) and signature (10 kb to 50 kb) ready.
