DNB CET Eligibility 2027: Diploma, Registration and Age Limit

DNB CET eligibility depends on one thing more than any other: your postgraduate diploma and the date its result was declared. The test is officially the DNB Post Diploma Centralized Entrance Test (DNB-PDCET), conducted by NBEMS for doctors who want to move from a PG diploma into a DNB broad specialty course. This page explains the qualification rules, the result deadline, registration, age, and the documents you will need.

The 2027 information bulletin has not been published as of 23 October 2026. Rules below come from the official 2022 NBEMS bulletin and from reports on the 2026 cycle, and each is labelled. The bulletin is always the final word, and it is available through the Official NBEMS website: https://natboard.edu.in/

Educational Qualification

You must have passed the final examination of a postgraduate diploma from an Indian university or institution. The diploma must be recognised under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, or under the earlier Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. You apply for the broad specialty that matches your diploma, such as obstetrics and gynaecology for a DGO.

The key points to confirm in the bulletin are these.

  • Passed, not appearing: A candidate who has only appeared in the final exam, without a declared result, does not qualify.

  • Same broad specialty: The diploma you hold decides the paper and the course you can take.

  • Recognition: Proof that the qualification is recognised must be uploaded or produced, as explained below.

Result Deadline Explained

NBEMS sets a date by which your diploma result must have been declared. Applying before that date but receiving the result afterwards can make a candidate ineligible, so it is the most common source of confusion.

Do not rely on guesses

Some websites project a date for 2027, but NBEMS has not announced one. Treat any such date as a guess. The safe approach is to track your own university's result calendar and ask for a provisional result letter if needed, then read the bulletin as soon as it appears.

The 2022 bulletin also allowed a short window to submit deficient documents. Never count on this, and upload complete proofs on the first attempt.

Recognition and Medical Registration

Two separate proofs are needed. The first shows that your diploma is recognised, and the second shows that you are registered as a doctor.

Proof of recognition

The 2022 bulletin accepted a self-attested printout from the NMC website showing the qualification as recognised, or an Additional Qualification Registration Certificate, or a State Medical Council certificate with the relevant recognition proof. Check which of these the 2027 bulletin allows.

Medical council registration

You need a valid registration with the National Medical Commission (earlier MCI) or a State Medical Council. Proof was required on exam day and again at counselling in the 2022 cycle. Make sure your registration has not lapsed.

Age Limit

The 2022 bulletin did not specify a minimum or maximum age. Secondary sources for the 2026 cycle also mention no age limit. That makes this test different from many government exams where age relaxation tables matter.

Age still plays a small role later. The tie-breaking rule in the 2022 bulletin prefers the older candidate when scores, correct responses and negative responses are equal.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Secondary sources describe the test as open to Indian citizens. The fetched 2022 bulletin did not state this, so verify the exact wording for overseas or other nationals in the 2027 bulletin.

  • Language: Reports for 2026 describe the paper as English only.

  • Reservation: SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD reservations apply during counselling according to the rules of each institution, and category certificates in the prescribed format are needed. PwD candidates must obtain disability certification before counselling.

  • Provisional eligibility: The 2022 bulletin stated that eligibility remains provisional until all criteria are verified. A candidate who writes the test can still be rejected later if documents fail.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Current MD, MS or DNB trainees: Candidates pursuing a postgraduate degree or DNB course are ineligible until they complete it or are formally discharged.

  • Result after the deadline: Diploma holders whose result is declared after the bulletin date.

  • Unrecognised diplomas: Qualifications that are not recognised under the NMC Act or the earlier IMC Act.

  • Certain non-university diplomas: The 2022 bulletin excluded diplomas from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai, other than DPB, DCH and DGO.

  • Specialty not on the list: A diploma in a field that is not on the NBEMS annexure.

  • Expired or missing registration: Doctors without valid medical council registration.

Specialty and Diploma Matching

The 2022 bulletin paired each broad specialty with a prior diploma. Use it as a quick check, and confirm the current annexure.
