DRDO RCI Apprentice Cut Off 2026: Merit Guide
Many candidates search for the DRDO RCI Apprentice cut-off to find out what marks will get them shortlisted. The honest answer is that Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, does not publish a cut-off for its apprenticeship recruitment. There is no written test, so there are no exam scores to cut off. Shortlisting for the 195 seats under Advertisement No. RCI/HRD/Apprenticeship/Advt/2027 is done on academic merit, meaning your marks in the qualifying B.E./B.Tech, diploma or ITI course.
What does exist is an official minimum, 70% or a CGPA of 7.5, and a clear record of how that minimum and the seat numbers have changed across recent RCI notices. This page uses those verified figures to explain how shortlisting really works and how to judge your own position. Treat any "expected cut-off" you see elsewhere as unofficial.
Is There an Official DRDO RCI Apprentice Cut-Off?
No. RCI's notice does not publish category-wise cut-off marks, a merit list with scores, or the number of candidates shortlisted per seat. Shortlisted candidates are informed by email, and the notice states that no correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not selected.
So the cut-off for this recruitment is simply the marks of the last candidate called in each category. It changes every cycle and is never announced. Pages that show a fixed figure for it are estimating, not reporting.
Minimum Marks in Previous RCI Apprentice Cycles
The eligibility floor is the only official mark RCI sets. It works as the lowest possible cut-off, and it has risen over recent cycles.
Cycle | Minimum marks to apply | Seats (Graduate / Diploma / ITI) | Selection basis |
|---|---|---|---|
2023-24 | More than 60% | 30 / 30 / 90 | Academic merit / written test / interview as required |
2024-25 | More than 60% (as reported) | 40 / 40 / 120 (as reported) | Academic merit / interview as required (as reported) |
2025-26 | 70% and more | 40 / 20 / 135 | Academic merit / interview as required |
2027 (current) | 70% or CGPA 7.5 | 50 / 30 / 115 | Academic merit / interview as required |
The 2023-24, 2025-26 and current rows come from RCI's official notices on the DRDO website. The 2024-25 row is based on published reports of that notice and is included for trend only.
What the Trend Tells You
The floor moved up by 10 points: RCI raised the minimum from above 60% to 70% from the 2025-26 cycle. A score that was comfortably eligible three years ago may not qualify today.
Graduate competition has widened: Graduate seats rose from 40 to 50 this cycle, but eligible branches more than doubled, from five to eleven. More graduates now compete for each seat.
ITI seats dropped slightly: Trade seats fell from 135 to 115, while the trade list changed (Electronics and Library Assistant out, Grinder in).
Diploma seats increased: Technician seats went from 20 to 30, with three more disciplines added.
What Decides the Real Shortlisting Mark
Because ranking uses marks you already have, the mark at which shortlisting stops depends on who else applies, not on how hard a paper was.
Number of eligible applicants: Every applicant in your category already has at least 70%. The more applicants there are, the higher the last shortlisted mark is likely to be.
Seats in your category: You compete only within your category, so 115 ITI seats and 30 diploma seats create very different levels of competition.
Reservation: Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, PwD and EWS candidates applies as per the Apprentices Act, so the last shortlisted mark can differ by category. No category-wise roster is printed.
Seat changes: The notice says vacancies may vary, which can move the line in either direction.
Interview, where held: If RCI interviews candidates, the final selection may not follow marks alone.
How to Judge Your Own Chances
Since no cut-off is published, use your position relative to the floor as a rough guide. This is general guidance, not a prediction.
Your marks | How to read it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Below 70% or 7.5 CGPA | Not eligible this cycle | Do not apply; look at other apprenticeship notices with a lower minimum |
Just above the minimum | Eligible, but your chance depends heavily on the size of the applicant pool | Apply correctly and prepare for an interview, but keep other options open |
Well above the minimum | Stronger position in merit ranking | Focus on a clean application and document readiness, since errors are now the main risk |
Whatever your marks, an application with the wrong portal, a mismatched mark entry or an undisclosed earlier apprenticeship can be rejected. Check every rule on the DRDO RCI Apprentice eligibility page before you apply.
Why Other DRDO Cut-Offs Do Not Apply
Search results for "DRDO cut-off" often show scores from DRDO recruitment exams such as CEPTAM technician and senior technical assistant posts. Those are cut-offs from written computer-based tests for permanent jobs, with their own vacancies and papers. They tell you nothing about RCI's apprenticeship shortlisting, which uses academic marks and a different applicant pool.
The same caution applies to other DRDO laboratories that hire apprentices. Each lab issues its own notice with its own minimum marks, branch list and process, so compare only RCI's own notices when judging this recruitment.
