Food Corporation of India Manager
FCI Manager is a recruitment exam conducted by Food Corporation of India for managerial-cadre recruitment, relevant to candidates preparing for recruitment at public sector undertakings and central institutions.
The FCI Manager exam is how the Food Corporation of India selects Category II Managers. This guide covers everything you need before the next cycle: notification status, posts and vacancies, eligibility, exam pattern, syllabus, selection, salary and cut-offs.
The last full recruitment for these posts was Advertisement No. 02/2022-FCI Category-II, which offered 113 Manager vacancies across five zones. As of 28 October 2026, FCI has not released a new Category II notification. This guide uses the 2022 notification as the working reference for eligibility, pattern, syllabus, selection and pay, and explains what to prepare now so you are ready when the next cycle opens.

What is FCI Manager?
FCI Manager is the recruitment exam the Food Corporation of India (FCI) uses to fill Category II Manager posts. FCI is a central public sector undertaking under the Department of Food and Public Distribution that buys, stores, moves and distributes food grains for the public distribution system. Its Managers handle general administration, depot operations, movement of food grains, accounts, quality control, civil and electrical mechanical engineering, and official language (Hindi) work.
It is a national-level recruitment, but vacancies are filled zone-wise across the North, South, East, West and North-East zones. FCI does not hold it every year; notifications come when vacancies build up, as in 2019 and 2022. It is taken mainly by graduates in the 18 to 28 age band, including commerce professionals, agriculture and food technology graduates and engineers, and by Hindi postgraduates (up to 35 years) for the Hindi post. Selection runs through a Phase I online test, a Phase II online test, an interview and, for posts other than Manager Hindi, six months of management training.

FCI Manager Notification Status
FCI recruits Category II Managers when vacancies build up, not on a fixed yearly calendar. Recent notifications were issued in 2019 and 2022, and the 2022 cycle closed with final results in mid-2023. Many education websites have reported an expected large FCI recruitment drive across categories, but FCI has not published a post-wise vacancy statement or a Category II notification for the current cycle.
Treat any vacancy figure you see for 2026 as unofficial until it appears on the FCI recruitment portal. When the notification is released, check three things first: the age reference date, the eligibility cut-off date for qualifications, and any change to the Phase II paper structure.

FCI Manager Posts and Vacancies
FCI recruits Managers zone-wise. You apply for one post in one zone, and you compete only with candidates who chose the same zone and post. The 2022 vacancy split shows how uneven the numbers can be across posts and zones.
Post (Code) | North | South | West | East | North-East | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Manager General (A) | 1 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 9 | 19 |
Manager Depot (B) | 4 | 2 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 15 |
Manager Movement (C) | 5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 6 |
Manager Accounts (D) | 14 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 4 | 35 |

Manager Hindi (H) | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 3 |
Total | 38 | 16 | 20 | 21 | 18 | 113 |
The same 113 vacancies split by category in 2022 as shown below. PwBD vacancies are reserved horizontally, so they sit within the category totals.
Category | Vacancies (2022) |
|---|---|
UR | 44 |
OBC | 23 |
ST | 20 |
SC | 15 |
EWS | 11 |
Total | 113 |
PwBD (horizontal) | 16 |
FCI states that vacancy numbers can change for administrative reasons, so use these figures as a reference for the size of a typical cycle, not as a forecast.

Applications are online only. The steps in the last cycle were:
Register: Open the Category II link on the FCI recruitment portal and register with a valid email ID and mobile number.
Choose post and zone: Select one post code and one zone. This choice cannot be changed later.
Upload documents: Photograph, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration in the prescribed sizes.
Pay the fee: Pay online if you are not exempt, then save the final application printout.
Common reasons for rejection include signatures in capital letters, unclear photographs, a mismatch between the name on the call letter and photo ID, and an OBC or EWS certificate outside the validity window the notification specifies.
FCI Manager Exam Pattern
The written stage has two online phases. Phase I screens candidates, and Phase II decides most of your final merit. For section-wise timing and strategy, see the full FCI Manager exam pattern guide.
Phase I (all posts)
Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
English Language | 25 | 25 | 15 minutes |
Reasoning Ability | 25 | 25 | 15 minutes |
Numerical Aptitude | 25 | 25 | 15 minutes |
General Studies | 25 | 25 | 15 minutes |
Total | 100 | 100 | 60 minutes |
One-fourth of the marks for a question is deducted for each wrong answer in Phase I. Phase I marks are not counted in the final merit, and about 15 times the number of vacancies are called to Phase II.
Phase II (post-wise papers)
Paper | Who takes it | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Paper I: English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General Studies | Posts A to G | 120 | 120 | 90 minutes |
Paper II: Post-specific subject | Accounts, Technical, Civil, Electrical Mechanical | 60 | 120 | 60 minutes |
Paper III: Hindi, English, Awareness, Intelligence, Computer, Current Affairs | Manager Hindi | 120 | 120 | 90 minutes |
Paper IV: Translation, essay and precis (descriptive) | Manager Hindi | - | 120 | 90 minutes |
What this means for you:
General, Depot and Movement candidates: Your merit rests on one 120-mark paper, so speed and accuracy in Paper I decide almost everything.
Accounts, Technical and engineering candidates: Paper II carries 2 marks per question, so your subject paper is worth as much as all of Paper I.
Negative marking: The 2022 notification applied negative marking in Phase I and stated no negative marking in Phase II. Confirm this rule in the next notification before you change your attempt strategy.

FCI Manager Salary, Training and Career Growth
Selected candidates for posts A to G join as Management Trainees and move to the Manager pay scale after training. Manager Hindi candidates are appointed directly as Managers without training. The table compares pay by post as per the 2022 notification.
Post | Pay scale | Starting pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Manager General, Depot, Movement, Accounts, Technical, Civil Engineering, Electrical Mechanical Engineering (A to G) | Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 (IDA) | Rs. 40,000 per month consolidated stipend during six months of training as Management Trainee | Absorbed as Manager in the IDA scale after successful training |
Manager Hindi (H) | Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 (IDA) | Appointed directly in the Manager pay scale | No training stage |
Allowances, benefits and the service bond that came with the post in 2022 are listed below.
Component | Details (2022 notification) |
|---|---|
Allowances | Industrial dearness allowance, plus perks and allowances under a cafeteria approach (stated as about 32% of basic pay in 2022) |
Other benefits | Provident fund, gratuity, leave travel concession, medical facilities, pension as per FCI rules |
Service bond | Rs. 1,00,000 for a minimum of three years of service |
In-hand salary depends on dearness allowance, city of posting and deductions. Any monthly figure you see quoted is an estimate, not an official number. Managers can move up to Assistant General Manager and higher grades through internal promotion, and postings can be anywhere in India even though recruitment is zone-wise. Depot and Technical roles involve regular field work at godowns, mandis and procurement centres.

How to Prepare for the FCI Manager Exam
Because the notification date is not known, the smart approach is to build the common sections now and add your post-specific paper in parallel.
Stage-wise plan
Weeks 1 to 8: Build basics in Numerical Aptitude, Reasoning and English. Read one newspaper daily and keep monthly current affairs notes.
Weeks 3 to 12: Start your Paper II subject (accounts, agriculture or engineering) for one to two hours a day, since it carries double marks per question.
From week 6: Add static General Studies (history, polity, economy, geography, general science up to Class 10) and computer awareness.
From week 10: Take sectional tests under the 15-minute and 20-minute timers used in the exam.
Final phase: Full-length mocks for Phase I and Phase II, same-day analysis and error-log revision.
Practise with mock tests
We could not find an official public mock test from FCI for this exam, so your practice has to come from previous year papers and timed mock tests that follow the current pattern.
FCI also runs separate recruitments for other roles. If you are preparing for those, see the FCI Assistant Grade 3, FCI Stenographer and FCI Watchman pages on Testkart.
FCI Manager Cut-Off Reference
FCI publishes cut-offs zone-wise and post-wise with each result. The table combines the fixed Phase II minimum from the 2022 notification with a few zone-wise figures reported for the 2022 cycle.
Year / cycle | Stage and post | Category | Cut-off marks | Out of |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2022 (notification rule) | Phase II minimum for interview, posts A to G | UR / EWS | 50% of Phase II marks | 120 or 240, depending on post |
2022 (notification rule) | Phase II minimum for interview, posts A to G | SC / ST / OBC / PwBD | 45% of Phase II marks | 120 or 240, depending on post |
2022 (reported, indicative) | Phase I, Manager General, North-East zone | UR | 64.25 | 100 |
2022 (reported, indicative) | Phase II, Manager General, South zone | UR | 83.00 | 120 |
2022 (reported, indicative) | Phase II, Manager Technical, South zone | UR | 143.00 | 240 |
Cut-offs change every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants, so treat past figures as a benchmark and aim for a clear margin above them. Full zone-wise reference figures are on our FCI Manager cut-off page.
