FCI Manager Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification
FCI Manager eligibility depends on the post you choose. The Food Corporation of India sets a different qualification for each of its eight Category II Manager posts, along with an upper age limit, category-wise relaxation and nationality rules. Getting one of these wrong can lead to rejection at document verification, even after you clear both online phases.
This guide explains the eligibility criteria as published in the last Category II notification (Advt. No. 02/2022), where age and qualifications were counted as on 1 August 2022. As of 28 October 2026, a new notification has not been released. The rules below are the best reference for planning, but the cut-off date and some conditions will change in the next cycle, so recheck them in the official notice.
FCI Manager Eligibility
Criterion | Requirement (2022 notification) |
|---|---|
Nationality | Citizen of India, or other categories listed in the notification |
Minimum age | 18 years |
Maximum age | 28 years for posts A to G; 35 years for Manager (Hindi) |
Age reference date | 1 August 2022 (will change in the next cycle) |
Qualification reference date | 1 August 2022 (will change in the next cycle) |
Minimum marks | 60% in graduation for General, Depot and Movement (55% for SC, ST and PwBD) |
Applications allowed | One post in one zone only |
Educational Qualification by Post
Your degree must be complete, with the result declared, on or before the qualification reference date in the notification. Candidates whose final result is pending on that date are not eligible.
Post (Code) | Essential qualification |
|---|---|
Manager General (A), Depot (B), Movement (C) | Graduate degree or equivalent from a recognised university with at least 60% marks (55% for SC, ST and PwBD), or CA, ICWA or CS |
Manager Accounts (D) | Associate membership of ICAI, ICMAI or ICSI; or B.Com with a full-time MBA (Finance) of at least 2 years, a part-time MBA (Finance) of at least 3 years, or a distance-mode MBA (Finance) recognised by the joint committee of UGC, AICTE and DEC |
Manager Technical (E) | B.Sc in Agriculture, or B.Tech or B.E in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Process Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Biotechnology streams specified in the notification |
Manager Civil Engineering (F) | Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent |
Manager Electrical Mechanical Engineering (G) | Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent |
Manager Hindi (H) | Master's degree in Hindi with English at degree level, or in English with Hindi at degree level, or in any subject with Hindi and English at degree level; plus 5 years of terminology or translation work, or 5 years of teaching, research, writing or journalism in Hindi |
Percentage, CGPA and rounding
Two decimal places: The 2022 notification asked candidates to state their graduation percentage up to two decimal places. If you are just below the cut-off, such as 59.99%, do not assume it will be rounded up to 60%; check the rounding rule in the notification.
CGPA conversion: If your university awards grades or CGPA, convert it to a percentage using your university's official norms. You may be asked to produce a certificate showing the conversion formula.
Aggregate marks: Use the aggregate percentage shown on your final mark sheet or degree, and keep mark sheets for all years ready in case the calculation is checked.
Equivalent qualifications
If your degree name differs from the one in the notification, you must produce an order or letter from the competent authority showing it is equivalent. This is checked at document verification, so get it in writing before you apply.
FCI Manager Age Limit
Post | Minimum age | Maximum age |
|---|---|---|
Manager General, Depot, Movement, Accounts, Technical, Civil Engineering, Electrical Mechanical Engineering | 18 years | 28 years |
Manager Hindi | 18 years | 35 years |
In the 2022 cycle, age was counted as on 1 August 2022. The notification states the exact date-of-birth window for each limit, and the next notification will set a new reference date, so recalculate your window once it is published.
Age Relaxation by Category
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC / ST | 5 years |
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
PwBD (UR / EWS) | 10 years |
PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
PwBD (SC / ST) | 15 years |
Ex-servicemen | As per government rules, with conditions on length of service |
FCI departmental employees | Upper age limit of 50 years |
No relaxation on unreserved vacancies: SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates who apply against unreserved vacancies get no age or qualifying-mark relaxation.
Departmental candidates: FCI employees in Category III or IV with at least 3 years of service were also given relaxation in the graduation percentage requirement in 2022.
PwBD eligibility: Candidates with a benchmark disability of 40% or more under the RPwD Act, 2016 qualify for PwBD relaxation for the posts identified as suitable.
Category certificates
OBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate and EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate valid for the period the notification specifies. In 2022, the OBC certificate had to be issued on or after 1 April 2022, and the EWS certificate had to be for the financial year 2022-23. An out-of-date certificate is one of the most common reasons reserved-category candidates are moved to the unreserved list or rejected.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Nationality: A citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries to settle permanently in India. Categories other than Indian citizens need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
One application only: You can apply for one post in one zone. If you apply more than once, only the latest complete registration is considered.
Posting and service bond: Recruitment is zone-wise, but you can be posted anywhere in India. Selected trainees had to sign a bond of Rs. 1,00,000 to serve at least three years in the 2022 cycle.
Field duties: Depot and Technical posts involve work at godowns, mandis and procurement centres, so be ready for field postings.
Who Is Not Eligible
Result awaited: Final-year students whose degree result is not declared by the reference date.
Short of the percentage: General, Depot and Movement applicants below 60% (or 55% for SC, ST and PwBD), unless they hold CA, ICWA or CS.
Wrong discipline: Technical, Civil or Electrical Mechanical applicants whose degree is not in a listed stream and who have no equivalence order.
Over age: Candidates above the limit after applying any relaxation they are entitled to.
Past service record: Persons dismissed or compulsorily retired from government or PSU service, or convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude.
Manager (Hindi) without experience: Candidates who hold the degree but not the 5 years of required experience.
Application Fee and Documents to Keep Ready
Category | Fee (2022) |
|---|---|
UR / OBC / EWS (men) | Rs. 800 plus bank charges |
SC / ST / PwBD / Women | Nil |
Keep these ready before the notification opens, so you can apply as soon as the window starts:
Academic proof: Degree certificate and mark sheets for all years, plus a CGPA conversion certificate if applicable.
Identity and age: Class 10 certificate for date of birth and a valid photo ID such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport or voter ID.
Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS or PwBD certificates in the format the notification prescribes.
Experience proof: Manager (Hindi) candidates need experience certificates covering the full 5 years.
Scanned uploads: Photograph, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration in the sizes the notification sets.
Eligibility Check
These examples apply the 2022 rules to common profiles. They show how the rules interact; they are not a substitute for the next notification.
Profile | Eligible posts (2022 rules) | Why |
|---|---|---|
B.A. graduate, 62%, general category, age 26 | General, Depot, Movement | Meets 60% and is under 28 |
B.Com graduate, 58%, OBC, age 29 | None of A to C | Age is within the OBC limit of 31, but 58% is below the 60% needed for OBC candidates |
B.Com graduate, 56%, SC, age 31 | General, Depot, Movement | Meets the 55% SC requirement and the SC age limit of 33 |
B.Com with two-year full-time MBA (Finance), age 27 | Accounts; also A to C if graduation is 60% or more | B.Com plus MBA (Finance) meets the Accounts rule |
Qualified CA, age 27 | General, Depot, Movement, Accounts | CA qualifies for A to C regardless of graduation percentage, and ICAI membership qualifies for Accounts |
B.Sc Agriculture, age 25 | Technical; also A to C if graduation is 60% or more | B.Sc Agriculture is a listed Technical qualification |
B.Tech Mechanical, age 24 | Electrical Mechanical Engineering; also A to C if graduation is 60% or more | Mechanical Engineering degree matches post G |
M.A. Hindi with English at graduation, 6 years as translator, age 34 | Hindi | Meets degree, experience and the 35-year limit |
Remember that the age limit is calculated on the reference date in the notification, not on the day you apply. If your birthday falls close to that date, check the exact date-of-birth window the notification gives.
Departmental Candidates
Serving FCI employees can apply under relaxed conditions. In 2022, departmental candidates had an upper age limit of 50 years, and Category III and IV employees with at least 3 years of service were given relaxation in the graduation percentage. They must still hold the qualification required for the post and apply through the same online process. If you are an FCI employee, check the departmental clauses in the next notification closely, because these rules can change.
Choosing the Right Post and Zone
Many candidates qualify for more than one post. A commerce graduate with 60% and an MBA (Finance) can apply for General, Depot, Movement or Accounts, but only one. Compare the vacancies in your preferred zone, check which Phase II paper you will take, and pick the post where your subject strength gives you the biggest edge. The 2022 notification had 35 Accounts and 28 Technical vacancies against only 6 for Movement and 1 for Electrical Mechanical Engineering, which shows how much the odds can vary.
