IBPS PO Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification & Rules

IBPS PO eligibility rests on three conditions: nationality, age and a graduation degree. For the 2026 cycle (CRP PO/MT-XVI), you must be between 20 and 30 years old as on 1 July 2026. You must also hold a degree in any discipline, with the final result declared on or before 21 July 2026. Reserved categories get relaxation in the upper age limit.

The rules look simple. Yet candidates lose their selection every year because of a late result, a wrong category certificate or a miscalculated age. IBPS does not check your documents when you apply. It checks them after you have cleared the exams.

This guide explains each condition in plain language, with worked examples, so that you can confirm your eligibility for this cycle or plan correctly for the next one.

IBPS PO Age Limit 2026

Parameter

Criterion / Rule

Critical Notes

Reference Cut-off Date

1 July 2026

• Calculated strictly as on the official cut-off date stated in the notification.

• Not calculated as on your application date or exam date.

Age Range (General/EWS)

20 to 30 Years

• Minimum Age: Must have completed 20 years.

• Maximum Age: Must not have completed 30 years.

Eligible Birth Window

2 July 1996 to 1 July 2006

• Both dates are inclusive.

• Born on 2 July 1996 → Eligible

• Born on 1 July 1996 → Ineligible

Upper Age Relaxations

• SC / ST: +5 Years (Up to 35)

• OBC (NCL): +3 Years (Up to 33)

• PwBD: +10 to +15 Years

• Ex-Servicemen: +5 Years

• Applicable only to reserved categories as per Government rules.

• EWS candidates follow standard General age limit (no upper relaxation).

Age Relaxation by Category

Category

Relaxation in upper age limit

Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe

5 years

Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer)

3 years

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

10 years

Ex-servicemen, including ECOs and SSCOs with at least 5 years of military service, subject to the notified conditions

5 years

  • EWS candidates get reservation but no age relaxation. Their upper limit stays at 30.

  • Relaxations combine only in a limited way. SC, ST and OBC relaxation can be added to just one other permitted category, such as PwBD.

  • Some websites list more categories carried over from older notifications. Rely on the age relaxation table in the current notification.

Maximum Age and Earliest Date of Birth

This table is worked out from the rules above for the 2026 cycle.

Category

Maximum age

Born not earlier than

General / EWS

30 years

2 July 1996

OBC (non-creamy layer)

33 years

2 July 1993

SC / ST

35 years

2 July 1991

PwBD (General / EWS)

40 years

2 July 1986

PwBD + OBC

43 years

2 July 1983

PwBD + SC / ST

45 years

2 July 1981

The latest permitted date of birth, 1 July 2006, is the same for everyone because the minimum age has no relaxation.

Worked Examples

  • General, born 10 March 1996: Born before 2 July 1996, so over the limit. Not eligible.

  • OBC-NCL, born 10 March 1994: The limit extends to 2 July 1993. Eligible, provided the OBC certificate is valid.

  • Any category, born 20 July 2006: Born after 1 July 2006, so under 20 on the reference date. Not eligible this cycle.

  • General, born 15 August 1996: Eligible in 2026, but this is the last chance if the next notification keeps a similar reference date.

Will You Be Eligible Next Year?

Each notification sets its own reference date and result cut-off. If the next cycle again uses 1 July, the date of birth window simply moves forward by one year. Two groups should plan around this. If you are close to the upper limit, check whether 2026 was your final attempt in your category. If you are in your final year, find out when your university usually declares results, because a result declared after the cut-off costs a full year.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification

Parameter / Requirement

Specification

Mandatory Guidelines

Minimum Education

Graduation / Bachelor's Degree

• Degree in any discipline (Arts, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Management, etc., are treated equally).

• Must be from a university recognized by the Govt. of India or an equivalent Central Govt. approved qualification.

Cut-off Date & Certificate

Possession on Registration Date

• Must hold a valid mark sheet or degree/provisional certificate on or before the day of online registration.

Application Form Entry

Marks Entry Mandatory

• You must calculate and enter your exact graduation percentage while filling out the online application form.

The Result Date Rule and Final-Year Students

For this cycle, the final result must have been declared on or before 21 July 2026. The date printed on your mark sheet or provisional certificate is treated as the date of passing. If your university publishes results online, you may need a certificate from the university stating the date of declaration.

This settles a question on which websites disagree. A final-year student whose result came after the cut-off date is not eligible for that cycle, even if the degree is completed before the interview. If your result was declared on 5 August 2026, your first eligible attempt is the next notification.

Percentage, CGPA and Rounding

  • No minimum percentage is prescribed for IBPS PO, so a pass degree is enough.

  • Calculation: total marks obtained in all semesters or years, divided by total maximum marks, multiplied by 100. Honours and optional subjects count where applicable.

  • CGPA or OGPA: Convert it to a percentage using your own university's formula, and keep proof of that formula for the interview.

  • No rounding up: Fractions are ignored, so 59.99% is treated as less than 60%. Enter the exact figure in the form.

A degree earned through distance or open learning is acceptable as long as the university and the programme are recognised.

Category Certificates: OBC, EWS and PwBD

Reservation and relaxation depend on the certificate, not on what you tick in the form. A category claim without a valid certificate can cancel your IBPS PO eligibility under that category.

Category

Key condition

Certificate point

OBC

Must belong to the non-creamy layer

Certificate should carry the non-creamy layer clause and, for this cycle, be issued on or after 1 April 2026

EWS

Gross annual family income below Rs. 8 lakh, and family assets within the prescribed limits

Income and asset certificate valid for the year given in the notification

PwBD

Benchmark disability of not less than 40% under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016

Disability certificate from the competent authority; it may be verified during the process

SC / ST

Caste or tribe listed in the central list

Certificate in the format prescribed for central government posts

An OBC candidate in the creamy layer is treated as General and gets neither reservation nor age relaxation.

Other IBPS PO Eligibility Conditions Students Ask About

Question

Position for IBPS PO

Is there an attempt limit?

No. You can appear every year until you cross the age limit for your category

Is work experience needed?

No. Fresh graduates can apply

Is local language proficiency required?

Not for PO. That condition applies to clerical and regional rural bank recruitment

Is a computer certificate required?

It is not listed as a formal condition, but the exam is online and the descriptive paper is typed, so working computer skills are necessary in practice

Can working employees apply?

Yes. Candidates in government or public sector jobs need a no objection certificate at the interview stage

Credit history: The notification advises candidates to maintain a healthy credit history at the time of joining. The minimum credit score, if any, is set by each participating bank. If you have an education loan or a credit card, pay on time and check your credit report before joining. An adverse record that is not resolved can lead to the offer being withdrawn.

When Is Eligibility Actually Checked?

IBPS PO eligibility is not verified at the application stage. IBPS accepts the details you enter and allows you to write the Prelims and the Mains on that basis. Original documents are examined at the interview, and again by the allotted bank before joining. Clearing the exams, or even receiving provisional allotment, does not confirm your eligibility.

That is why a wrong date of birth, an inflated percentage or an invalid category claim is risky. It will surface only after you have spent a year on the process.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Proof of date of birth (Class 10 certificate)

  • Graduation mark sheets for all semesters or years and the degree or provisional certificate

  • Category certificate (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS or PwBD) in the prescribed format, where applicable

  • University proof of the CGPA conversion formula, if relevant

  • Photo identity proof

  • Certificate of eligibility, for candidates who are not Indian citizens

  • No objection certificate, for government and public sector employees

  • Discharge certificate, for ex-servicemen

Common Eligibility Mistakes

  • Counting age on the wrong date. Use the reference date in the notification.

  • Applying with a result that is still awaited. The declaration date must fall on or before the cut-off.

  • Rounding up the percentage. Enter the exact figure.

  • Using an old OBC certificate or one without the non-creamy layer clause.

  • Expecting age relaxation under EWS. There is none.

  • Entering a name or date of birth that does not match the Class 10 certificate.
